Bolts lava spikes light the stage, soul scar mage, plus other prowess 1 2 drops... Feels like a match up we should easily be favoured in but they are so fast!!
Beating budget goblins and infect.
Losing to red prison in 3 and UR Prowess. And man... That prowess deck I've played twice now and I feel embarrassed by how bad I've lost to it twice now. I'm not really sure what I'm going to do vs that one yet.
Sad to say I've had fairly dismal records the past two weeks going 2-2 and 1-3. Last week was rough as I brought the wrong sideboard for what I played against expecting to see more of what I saw the week before. My meta is small and extremely diverse. It's hard to prepare a SB for. I also play tomorrow night. I'll keep a bit of a record for a small report.
I think it's funny that if we adjust pretty much any one card that matters we might s well just play a different deck that does what we are trying to do better.lol! Usually deaths shadow. In this case Phoenix.
Truly, we are at the mercy of waiting for a card to be printed that blows this deck wide open.
Glad to see you're still here! Have any advice on a sideboard?
I am here for life! But we lost rug jester and lemon buster just recently.
2-3 Surgical Extraction and local meta relevant others basically. Not much has changed for us and we have exhausted pretty much all of our current options.
Welp, the incredible good luck I had last week definitely found enough bad luck this week to make up for it. 1-2-1 this week. Deck just wasn't wanting to play nice today. Even mulled to three one game (against mill) just to see a land in my opening hand.
So in 8 games ive cast spite of mogis once.
I saw stifle bird 2 times last night and it never felt appropriate to cast nor cycle. I would have far rathered VClique.
After discussing it in my last post, basic mountain in the main won me two games last night. So that was a surprise. It's like it heard me saying it was on thin ice. Lol!
I think the argument is 50/50 and I think neither option is GREAT. or even good.. they are simply options in our genaric toolbox.
Bridge is a card but so is Path
It's a creature that isn't graveyard dependant, It protects itself, from path seeing a high rise in play again (vs phoenix) which can target Hazoret, Most of us have grudge and revelry in the deck to combat bridge (though the work around of Hazoret and Huntmaster usually does the heavy lifting here). We have been somewhat looking for a card that trumps control.
Gonna drop the fourth monkey to try out 1x stifle bird tomorrow.
I'd pretty never liked to play 4 mandrills, so I think it can be a good Idea to drop it; but wouldn't be Vendilion Clique just better than Nimble Obstructionist?
This is probably correct. And I do love me some VClique. But I want to see how this bird plays. Our new friend a few pages back said it was the best card in the deck. I thought this was a pretty bold statement. So my curiosity is peaked.
I'd like to drop the basic mountain but I almost feel like it's a necessary evil. Thoughts?
I like to have all the basics covered, but I think in many shells mountain can be dropped without many regrets.
I think you're right. It's likely we can always default back to not running it until a new set is released and everybody plays burn to punish the brewers.
Notably, I own RUG delver in legacy so if we see any of those cards in Horizons I'm covered. That and 4 foil Counterspell. Hopefully They don't make me have to shell out for judge promo FOW's. LOL
I can't see modern with force of will. What I fear (for my wallet) is that we could get a mythic pseudo FoW that will cost ($) too much. But we'll see...
And I feel like modern already has shoal and deprive. I'd be hard pressed to see a NEW worse legacy esq counter.

@Mike: I can't remember what I took out. But I brought in 3 moons, negate, d stroke, 2 surgical, 2 hunts.
I think you are right concerning keeping in the delvers, a swing or two and a bolt can usually be good game.
I am only playing one fire and I'm trying out a spite of mogis, which I never saw at all yesterday.
@Cat: Glad you had a great night. Certainly win or lose this deck is THEE most fun I've ever had playing magic and that's why I play it. Sounds like you are on the right track regarding you're side board decisions, it'll come with practice! The problem with Remand and to a much lesser extent vapor snag, is bouncing things back into our opponents hand just for them to cast again the same turn doesn't net us a win the way twin could playing the card. Sure it's a tempo card but removing it from the equation via mana leak or negate is just SOOO much better for us. Perhaps Jordan can phrase it better. I'm sure there's a page or two on it in the thread.
Depending on the kind of creature heavy decks it's mostly about shutting down the enablers and payoff cards, and trusting your sideboard to work as its supposed to. As recently mentioned, we are one good removal spell from being a pretty darn good deck again.
Just wanted to share I went undefeated tonight.4:0
G1 2-0 UW Terminus Control
G2 2-1 Grixis Death shadow (should have been 2-0 but couldn't hit for last 1 damage g2)
G3 2-0 UB Mill
G4 2-0 Grishoalbrand ( He drew poorly both games with no fast goryos )
Nothing crazy or different from the stock shoal list except for minus one shoal plus one turn aside Every dog has his day. A great way to celebrate foil Goyf #2 whom I just picked up yesterday!

So I found this guy trying Rug pteromander… I only skimmed through the video. It didn't look like it worked out very well.

So basically,
Oh damn!! Welcome back! Pretty stock shoal list with a couple simic charms and some flex spots main.

*shrug* It's all just thinking out loud.
I'm thinking sideboard. Solifuge was a hell of a card back in its day. I'm just tinkering.

Is there a meta where giant solifuge a good card?
