The heart of the matter is it's usually creature decks we have the most problem with once their toughness is 4 or greater. I honestly don't know if FoN will actually make roast any more playable (considering how our deck is supposed to operate) sure FoN frees up room to play it but it still isn't the removal spell we want. On the same token, that's also why I think mongoose isn't a fit for this deck given the lack of the power level the legacy support cards give it as I've started before. It still doesn't better us against creature decks with big butts. I'd far rather go back to bedlam reveler if we are going to jam another gy "dependant" card. Again it's an optional meta card.
I'll definitely be buying a play set of FoN but right now I'm pretty tempted not to touch or evolve the deck too greatly. But we haven't even seen the first HALF of the MH set yet. We may get something we want EVEN more yet. Fingers crossed.
At three mana for trademage I think snapcaster does more for us.
Sorry to be a debbie downer. But currently I have to agree with MikeFon. We haven't really seen much more than FoN at best for us. Yet... Spoilers not finished though.
Time will certainly tell if I'm wrong.. But I think mongoose gets a TON worse not having the powerful tempo cards like wasteland, stifle and actual force that legacy has access to. I think it will just get bricked and die in combat personally, I remain on the train of thought that all we need is a damn good instant non conditional removal spell.
The matchup against Amulet is so good that I'm fine with them getting a new card, especially something that dies to Stubborn Denial. Creatures are this deck's real problem.
At least, that's my perspective. You actually play Amulet, according to your profile, so what do you think?
My opinion is that our deck is probably the best suited for this match up.but at some point our stubborn denials are going to be stretched very thin if amulet adopts karn. I agree creatures are a much bigger problem for our deck. We are likely still very much favoured here though.
I have a Foil Dissension Breeding pool coming in the mail
And I own an Expo Misty I'm going to trade towards a couple MM Mistys
The Expo steam vents were chosen solely for faster fetching.
The Scalding Tarns will probably be the last pieces I pick up for the deck.
EDIT: Regarding UU for counterspell.... I think it'll actually be ok in conjunction with shoal... we essentially get spell snare early and counterspell late..
Our mana base is REALLY fragile... Until it's established late game it's very difficult to afford which can make it a bad top deck in the first few turns. It's better as a sideboard card for grindy games but the match ups we grind with usually have a better card for us to play instead.
Yeah, the best part about Hooting Mandrills is just how little you have to babysit him. Pteramander seems like a better threat once you can Adapt, but the big problem is that I can't see that happening feasibly until turn 4 or later. So, he's a "1 drop," but having Flying Men out for 4 turns before it turns into a Tombstalker seems kind of 'meh'.
There's a guy at my LGS who's been rocking RUG Delver. He runs a playset of Pteramander and Light up the Stage, along with a couple copies of Curious Obsession swears by it. It makes sense to me, since he's trying to keep Spectacle active every turn, but I'm not sure whether it's the best way to go in RUG.
This is rather interesting... I'm curious what his deck list looks like.. Seems strange to both show your opponent counter spells and risk losing them altogether after that next turn for the benefit of digging into your deck. Very interesting...
