People see that they aren't in MM and assume the demand will increase as players scramble to get the cards before supply dries up, so they buy the cards out and cause actual supply issues. Am I missing something?Quote from Blade »Quote from ashtonkutcher »>****ty uncommonQuote from Spsiegel1987 »It went down to 40 because no one's going to buy a *****ty uncommon for 50 dollars. When it doesn't sell, sellers attempt to undercut others to get the sale.
>4-of staple in Modern's best deck
Ok, you sold all your BGx stuff. Thanks for telling us! But some people still want to play Thoughtseize into Goyf, and now they can do that without losing to Urza's Tower. Bauble is not even as expensive as some of the other cards in the deck. What's to gain from bringing your emotions to the table? No, I don't find basic economics disheartening.Quote from Blade »Does anyone else find it slightly disheartening that as soon as the card list for MM3 was known, the expensive cards that didn't get a reprint immediately jump in price, some by as much as 30-50%? I get it, people like to make money, but it almost negates the purpose of MM sets. Where prices go down, you have other staples rise up sharply. Your net gain expense wise to get into the format is almost non-existent. The fetches help overall though, so I'm glad those got a reprint being the foundation to the format. All other format staples that didn't get a reprint... wow. Also, Chalice of the void just REEKS of insider trading. MM set a month away, and the price spikes nearly 50%? Hmm.
Either way, drafts are going to be so fun with MM3 - can't wait.
Pretty snarky, but the fact that you said that leads me to believe you don't know enough about "basic economics". Carry on.

Mogg Flunky posted a message on Mothership spoilers 02/27/17 - DAMNATION + ENEMY FETCHESPosted in: The Rumor MillQuote from Teysa_Karlov »Quote from Bread Connoisseur »Yeah people don't realize that fetches aren't coming to standard/there's no demand being created for them there, which is a huge demand because fetches are fetches. These fetches are just for basically the modern playerbase, kind of legacy though basically everyone into legacy has the fetches they want, and EDH. They should see a substantial drop similar to wasteland.
No they won't. Wasteland only dropped the way it did because barely anyone plays Legacy anymore. Meanwhile, these fetches are used heavily in every competitive format they are legal in.
I expect the exact same as what happened with Goyf. They will drop 15-20 for a month, that go back to where they were before, if not higher.
Quote from Charm_Master3125 »At least I'll be able to convert my verdant catacombs into proper duals now with the price spike.
A print run this miniscule is going to drive prices through the roof - I'm talking $250 scalding tarns, if not higher.
First of all, apples and oranges:
Tarmo was printed at MYTHIC in sets with substantially smaller print runs than this; these are printed at RARE in a set with a prospectively high print run.
Also, this is not how economics work. First of all, demand is not contingent upon supply; prices currently reflect the level of demand for enemy-color fetches, and supply just substantially expanded, ergo there will be a price drop. Also, fetches are at least somewhat imperfect substitutes. $250 Scalding Tarn is not happening, if only because people will start substituting Flooded Strand and Polluted Delta if (BIG IF) the price of Tarn gets too high before it sees another retiring. So I'm sorry, but if your plan is to flip a set of Verdant Catacombs into a set of dual lands, I'm afraid you're going to be disappointed when Catacombs drops to $30-35 each.
EDIT: Go look at the SCG preorder prices for MM17 singles. Keeping in mind that SCG generally waxes on price--particularly for preorders--the prices for MM17 fetches are already well below the cost of NM Zendikar originals.
EDIT 2: scratch that. Go look at the prices for Zen fetches on TCGPlayer; already dropping to reflect spoilers. $39.99 Verdant Catacombs. $54.99 Scalding Tarn. When was the last time you saw THOSE prices? -

cfusionpm posted a message on Jace, Vryn's Prodigy - where does it stand now?Posted in: ModernQuote from Equinox2793 »Quote from cfusionpm »It's not good and has never been good. Maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration, but in a format as hostile as Modern, where if you aren't being killed by turn 3, whatever you play will be killed, and Jace's impact is minimal at best. I picked up my copies at ORI launch for $11 a piece and am kicking myself for not selling them at $90. Still sitting on my playset, hoping they find a home outside of filler EDH slots. Snapcaster is better in almost every regard, especially with counterspells. And outside of Goryos looting, I feel Jace would only be run in a deck as Snaps 5-8. But to take full advantage, they would also have to be running a proactive strategy (and even then, that requires cutting better, more useful cards to make room).
Then how do you explain this....http://www.mtgtop8.com/event?e=10309&d=259048&f=MO or his use in Grixis twin before it's ban?
Many people like to experiment with new cards that they feel are powerful, especially just a month after release. "Blue Jund" was something several people (and especially Michael Majors) tried to make happen immediately after the launch of Origins, but it never took off and never had any sustained success. As far as Twin, I never liked him in that and there was no consensus in the Twin threads whether he was correct to play or not. Most seemed to feel he was unnecessary and didn't add enough to the deck to warrant slots.
His price and his hype was driven almost entirely by Standard play. The only reason he's not <$10 is because people who might have paid $50-80+ for them are getting more and more reluctant to sell the farther he slips down in price. -

They've been very conservative with this format. Just last year they banned DTT because it MIGHT take over where TC left off. Does that sound like the kind of ban list decision from a group that would release a card with a very high oppressiveness potential? Nope.
Stop the craziness? You mean the justified conversations about a card that MANY don't think is format breaking? THE HORROR! -

In another game he had all 4 titans in play T3, giving 3 of them haste.
How does a player give 3 titans haste? Care to explain that? How is he untapping the Slayer's Stronghold for multiple activations?
Sounds to me like Stronghold is the offender here.
