So we've got one full deck list out now, and there isn't a single badly needed reprint in the whole list. Sure, Command Zone states the overall reprint value is high, but that's any deck when you're adding up a bunch of bulk cards. The best reprint we get is Seedborn Muse, which you can get easily for less than $10 already. It's looking a little better than last year I suppose.
I'm curious what other people are thinking and feeling about this. The reprints so far are almost entirely not sought after bulk cards. And this is also considering the still absurd $40 price tag, which already causes tons of new players that don't have a ton to spend to shy away from a precon.
With no badly needed reprints for experienced players, and the high $40 price tag that keeps a lot of newer players away, who is this product even for?
Ghired is definitely a worse card as the general for tokens than trostani, selesnya's voice since it has to attack and doesn't have the option to sit back. Pretty disappointing the morph deck isn't temur. The madness and flashback ones are pretty cool though
I'm curious what people think of Raging River in limited. Having more influence over combat as the attacker every combat seems pretty decent to me. The casting cost is also pretty low at 2 CMC. My experience with cube is fairly limited, however.
Do you think this card would do enough for a hyper aggressive deck to warrant a slot in any cubes? Or is does it simply not do enough to be any good?
I honestly love combos, along with any alternate win conditions. They're one of the reasons MTG is the best strategy game and is such a diverse game. When we don't wanna play against decks that win turns 1-5, my playgroup just plays budget <$10 a card decks (with the exceptions of legendary creatures and planeswalkers in those decks). In those games, every strategy is viable and nobody gets locked out of the game unless they did it to themselves by building a really terrible deck. Even then, we don't mind combos because they're easy to stop in that setting and take a lot to get through 3+ other players.
The way I see it, it's just not really worth buying and playing with an expensive card if you're not looking to win as fast as possible with it (with the exception of legendary creatures and walkers). I also think if you're trying to win as fast as possible then it's a bit immature to expect differently of anybody else at the table. And if your deck can't deal with combos or stax pieces even in a budget game, then that's really more on your deck building and threat assessment skills than anything else.
EDIT: It's worth noting for context that the budget I'm referring to is based on TCGPlayer median prices, and not based on how much someone might actually spend to obtain the card.
... so they didn't just have two sets planned, they had three? And they are so desperate to recoup losses they are charging over 300 dollars a box, with the justification being the buyer gets a masterpiece?

Hard to say now. For all we know, the rest of the rares can be straight bulk. They always release the good cards first, then the chaff trickles out as the set gets spoiled.
Even with the rest of the set being bulk, the numbers show the value-cost ratio is better than the other masters sets with the exception of maybe the first modern masters.
Though, this doesn't account for how much the cards will drop. Which is impossible to know without print runs really.

Can the Indrik still deal the damage via the fight mechanic when it's destroyed? Also, can I cast Collar in response to the Indrik entering before the fight trigger and would it make any difference?
Would've really preferred to see some cool new art on Lazav than the crap Etrata art. Also kinda would've preferred Dracogenious Niv instead of Firemind on for this art since Firemind already has awesome art from the Duel Decks. Oh well, Aurelia stills looks sick as hell.
After doing quite a bit of limited practice so far, I think golgari splash blue for card filtering or white for fliers will likely be best. Rhizome Lurcher is just insane at common almost always hitting as at least a 6/6 for 4 if not bigger. There are 2 common deathtouchers along with the 3 Mana 1/2 cat that draws a card etb and the 1/2 rat that make opponent discard etb. The latter two both give you really easy ways to enable undergrowth while not really losing card advantage and the deathtouchers can trade up easily even on fliers with prey upon. The 4 Mana fight with deathtouch card is also very good for hitting almost everything.
After having done 7 practice drafts now, I can assure you Izzet turns out to be one of the best in the format. Its actually a pretty fast deck and is probably the best boros check in the format (boros is very fast and probably just the flat out best archetype overall). It actually turns out that dimir is pretty much the worst. Probably due to having almost no finishers in the black common and uncommon slot and bad common fliers in black as well in a fast format. Also, the common surveil payoffs are VERY underwhelming in practice. Izzet turns out to have a lot of great tools to out tempo boros and still outspeed the other decks. It's really good.

My opponent casts Affectionate Indrik and targets my Parhelion Patrol to fight it. In response, I cast Collar the Culprit to destroy the Indrik.
