Highly doubtful a Gideon Planeswalker card will show up in Zendikar. More likely later in the block, if at all.
What i find funny is that it's been stated he's a Hieromancer. Not exactly a common term. I'm sure many who reply to this in hindsight will say they already knew what Hieromancy was but I am not ashamed to say I didn't know what Hieromancy was; So I looked it up.
"a form of divination involving sacrificial remains or sacred objects."
Sacrificial remains. Sacrifice evokes black, although if it's a holy/spiritual ritual, one could make the case for white. If primitive, nature based and/or artifact destruction sacrifice ("sacred objects") then could involve Green. Doesn't seem Blue at all as it's sacrificial, not manipulative, and the "Divination" in this context doesn't seem very Blue in flavor. Seems too orderly and deliberate to be Red.
Points to Black to me. Maybe White. Maybe Green. Less likely Blue. Least likely Red.
But overall I agree with the folks who say he's a creative invention of the book's author and the chances that we see a Gideon planeswalker anytime soon are low, certainly not in Zendikar set itself, but maybe in a following set.
Congrats on getting into EDH! I only started playing it a few weeks ago, myself.
I've built 6 decks, and my Gaddock Teeg Deck is my favorite and the one I've invested the most time in. (And the only one I've invested any money on singles!). It's not necessarily a powerhouse and it doesn't always win, but it's the most fun.
I picked him because his ability is annoying, but not terribly so, and powerful, but not over-powered. He seemed "just right".
In my few group play experiences with him so far, when announcing who my General is, I've received reactions that run the gamut: interest, indifference, amusement, and frustration accompanied by eye-rolls.
At the very least, Gaddock makes himself a target, because most people can't tolerate letting him stick around for too long. By extension, that sometimes makes me a target; Especially if you protect him with such things as Lightning Greaves or Whispersilk Cloak.
Also you are almost never going to deal 21 General damage with Gaddock so you better plan your primary win condition(s) in your deck itself.
I also have a couple other GW Legendaries in my deck, such as Rhys the Redeemed and Tolsimir Wolfblood. I'll usually play a game with Gaddock, then switch my General to Rhys or Tolsimir for the next game, just to mix things up, and as an act of good will toward my fellow players.
Gaddock is a "passive" card, you know, he has a powerful ability but you don't get to actively use it. That's another reason that from time to time a General like Rhys can be fun to use instead, as he actually has an ability I can activate, use and if I'm lucky, abuse.
One last thing. I'm also in Michigan. Maybe we live close enough to play? PM me if intereted.
I want to make a prison deck, that doesn't combo out and instantly win. I want a deck that completely stalls out the game and the win condition is my opponents picking up their cards and leaving.
I want to use Grand Arbiter Augustin IV as my general.
[cut]
I basically want to make my opponent not really be able to do anything without heavy consequences.
First off, hilarious introduction. I just might have to copy your deck once I see how it turns out, if you don't mind.
I'd recommend Suppression field, assuming you don't have alot of activated abilities. Even so, your opponents will already be dishing out more mana, and you less, so you may be able to afford some activation costs when they won't.
My Savra Graveyard deck. It's a fun deck that works great once it gets going, but sometimes it's a bit slow to ramp up. Any suggestions from those with experience with this type of deck will be appreciated!
Thank you for spotting that!! And GREAT idea on the Acidic Slime .. Making that switch just as soon as I can run up to the store and get my hands on one. Looking into Retribution of the Meek; not familiar with it offhand! Thanks!
Update: The more I played with Rhys, the more fun I had with him and the less I wanted to play with Gaddock. I moved Gaddock into the deck and eventually removed him from the deck all together.
Revisions:
+ Acidic Slime (Thanks, Miscalcul8edRisk!)
- Creeping Mold
+ Hymn of Rebirth (Unfortunately it costs 5, but it's a nice card and I find myself using other Generals half the time anyway)
- Skullclamp (great card, but my tokens are rarely 1/1s)
- Gaddock Teeg (promoted Rhys to General)
- Faith's Fetters
+ Ajani and Garruk. (Waiting on Garruk in the mail, picking up Ajani soon)
- Beloved Chaplain
+ Civic Wayfinder
+ Nonbasic Lands
Now I feel good about the deck, I've had alot of fun games with it recently, and I've upgraded some of the lands. The deck is pretty much how I want it. I still have a few nonbasic lands I'd like to add, and as I play I'm sure I'll continue to tweak it here and there, but this is pretty much it.
[/deck]Also considering Priveleged Position as my enchantments are so valuable when I manage to get them out.
Carven Caryatid is basically the same, but you should be able to find one easily, and cheap!
Also, you can use Fabricate and Reshape to help you get Cloudstone Curio more consistently.
Also playtest it of course, but you may want to add more land, since hopefully with this deck you will be bouncing and re-casting things over and over every turn.
And come on, Oasis, REALLY? You will kick yourself when you need a real card and draw that instead.
Thanks for the good ideas!! Adding Tooth & Nail for sure. I agree Broodmother is just crazy good, but I don't have one and it also happens to be the most expensive Dragon card around from what I saw... Perhaps I'll get lucky and trade for one.
Savage Beating... wow. I think I have one of those hiding in a box somewhere...
My EDH Dragon-themed deck, led by Kresh. I made it for my daughter, who wanted a Dragon deck, but she liked Kresh and wanted him as the General. It actually turned out to be a really fun deck.
Made with cards I have, so if you have obviously better substitutes, by all means, use them!
Not a very serious or competitive deck, but I wanted to put a fun Ambassador Laquatus deck out there, so here you go. It's good for laughs when you get the combo off once, but I wouldn't advise playing it in your regular playgroup again after that. Yes, you can deck all of your opponents in the same turn...
PS, I am new to EDH (started playing it last week), but I will put my "real" decks up soon, too!

Thoughts?
You're obviously not a english freak.
The 2nd ability seems like a waste. No big deal, though. First and ultimate are great, and more than make up for it.
I'm in the process of building a Sedris deck, and your deck has given me alot of great ideas I hadn't considered, so thanks!
And I have one suggestion for you. Sphinx Ambassador is going into my deck and I have a feeling she would be rather disgusting.
Sylvan Scrying?
Fetch that Gaea's Cradle or Vitu-Ghazi.

Blazing Archon
Windborn Muse
Ghostly Prison
Noetic Scales is a good annoying control card but I'm not sure it will fit in with your deck. Check it out though.

Chalice of the Void can be a double edged sword, though.
Chill won't work against everyone, but it shuts down red.
