    Quote from RedC15
I realize the loyalty doesn't really matter, but I figure it could be used as the number of counters that causes it to flip.

Given the (very) limited space on flip cards, it would seem that the best way to activate the flip on a planeswalker flip card would be to collect loyalty counters while unflipped, then flip at a certain amount. Otherwise, you would have to add text to explain that when the card is flipped, some loyalty counters are added, but this could potentially get a bit messy, especially when SBEs enter the picture (i.e., is there time to get the counters on it after flipping before it goes to the graveyard?). The only other alternative, I suppose, would be to make up rules stating that if a card flips into a planeswalker, a number of loyalty counters equal to its loyalty are added as it flips.

IMHO, I think the final card list will be something like this:

    Air Elemental—IN
    Bog Wraith—OUT
    Drudge Skeletons—IN
    Fear—OUT
    Giant Growth—IN
    Giant Spider—IN
    Goblin King—IN
    Grizzly Bears—OUT
    Howling Mine—IN
    Nightmare—IN
    Orcish Artillery—OUT
    Regeneration—OUT
    Rod of Ruin—OUT
    Samite Healer—OUT
    Scathe Zombies—OUT
    Wrath of God—IN

My reasoning is basically that the cards that are IN (in my list) seem to be overall more useful than the cards that are OUT. M10 seems like a good time to cull the weaker and less useful cards. The only change might be that Orcish Artillery is IN and Goblin King is OUT.

According to the Christian faith, God does not merely force his will upon creation. He made creation, and is in fact still creating.

If you gave this gun the ability to choose whether or not to attack regardless of the stimuli, but then tell it not to attack under certain conditions but it attacks anyway, then you have the right to punish it.

@Zaphrasz: Interesting that you label God as a "cosmic dictator" who "arbitrarily makes people suffer an eternity of torment." The Christian perspective is that God does not arbitrarily make people suffer, but rather he punishes those who do not obey his commandments. He does not want to condemn anyone, but being a perfectly just and holy God, he must condemn those who do not obey. These commandments, of course, are not limited to the Ten Commandments, but rather they are summed up by Christ as the "greatest commandments": "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength" and "Love your neighbor as yourself." Now keep in mind that all have broken these commands, and thus all deserve punishment. This is where Christ comes in. God sent his Son to become Immanuel, "God with us," to live a perfect life according to God's Law, and then die a sinless man on behalf of all who have sinned, as an "unblemished sacrifice." His resurrection is proof of the eternal life given to those who love and believe in him, which is evidenced by obedience to God. In addition to this, God's Holy Spirit was sent to 'guide' and 'counsel' believers, providing them with the strength they need in order to avoid sinning further. Many of the problems and punishments in this lifetime are brought about by humans, not by God's perfect will.

@Horseshoe_Hermit: Thanks for helping clarify my argument. Whether you were actually defending me or not is debatable, but I do appreciate the backup. :p

I wonder about the idea of simply "ceasing to be." Does it not scare you? What keeps you going if you simply cease to be after your life? There must be something moving you forward. Otherwise, what is the point? Suffering through hardships in life until you simply cease to exist does not make any sense to me.

Fair enough. How about all the physical evidence that has been found that supports biblical claims? There was a scholar who set out to disprove the book of Acts, but based on evidence he found that the author (Luke) was an incredible historian and that everything checked out as fact. Thus, he came to believe as well.

The Bible is a compilation of experiences, not a fictional storybook.

Theology functions as a science in that it studies the physical evidence--the Bible (i.e., thousands of years of written accounts of experience with a higher being)--and comes to conclusions based on what is observed. Yes, there is usually a bias or an "opinion" put forth beforehand, but is this not the same as a hypothesis? Scientists are usually looking for something to begin with anyway, some sort of correlation between events, etc. Studying the Bible scientifically is no different.

There have been many accounts of religion-hating people who set out to scientifically disprove the Bible, obviously using the scientific method. The majority of them ended up disproving their own claims and many of them ended up actually believing in the Bible afterward. Once again, this was based on the scientific method. One of them was a Christianity-hating lawyer (Lee Strobel) who set out to disprove his wife's new faith by following legal methods, such as seeking proper evidence, etc. He is now a firm believer in the Christian faith and has written several books on his findings. How do we account for this? These are intelligent people following scientific methods and concluding that it has to be true.

Since the beginning of history there has been belief in an afterlife. It is only in the past 50 or so years that the idea of simply "ceasing to be" has become popularized. Doesn't it seem rather arrogant to assume that 50 years of experience trumps thousands of years of experience?

I am a Christian. I voted "Heaven and Hell." Logic can and does coexist with religion. Have you ever heard of "theology"? The very word comes from theos "God", and logos "word, saying, message, teaching, reason." In other words, the "science of God." Isn't science all observation, logic, and reason?

I'm not gonna lie, this is an awesome card. 5/5 for 4cc is amazing in itself, and the abilities are awesome. If I played R/G, I'd probably play this card.

That being said, it bothers me that Wizards keeps making 5/5 creatures for 4cc. 1RGG is not difficult to pay for in this environment. Considering green is part of the cost, this card can easy see play on turn 3. An uncounterable 5/5 on turn 3 is far too quick for my own liking, especially since it then allows your turn 4 5/5, your turn 5 7/7, and your turn 6 9/9 to all be uncounterable. Too good for my taste, but maybe that's just me.

What kind of effect would changing RFG to "exile" have on the Wish cards? The rules currently allow you to search for a card "outside the game," which naturally includes the RFG zone. However, a card in "exile" is technically still in the game, hence the reason for the name change in the first place. Would they change the cards to read: "Search outside the game or in the exile" or would they change the rules of the cards to not allow them to search the "exile"?

I wonder if this means they are now going to start sorting multicolored cards by color rather than as just a bunch of multicolored cards. They did this with the hybrid cards for Shadowmoor and Eventide.

I have a playset and I don't play Standard (anything specific, really . . . just casual), so for me, it ultimately doesn't really matter what they do. However, given the direction white in Magic seems to be going (e.g., Condemn), a Hallowed Burial effect seems to be a reasonable replacement to expect from Wizards.

Oh, and as a side note, try telling a Christian, a Muslim, or a Jew that they all worship the same God and see what happens. If they are a faithful Christian, Muslim, or Jew, the results will not be too pretty . . .

@FoxBat: Ah ha! "Banish" would be perfect! I certainly would not object to seeing "banish target creature" on a card. It's so elegant. I hope that's what Wizards does.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I love templating. Grin

What kind of wording do you think the cards will have now?

"When CARDNAME comes onto the battlefield. . ."
"When CARDNAME leaves the battlefield. . ."
"Return target creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield."
"Put target creature into the (your?) void" or could the word "void" itself be a new version of "destroy" but for RFG: "Void target creature." I suppose this could cause some confusion with the sharing of "void" for two things, though the action word would be connected to the location word.

Man, these new terms would give Magic such a different feel. . .
