Sin Collector Seems a little out of place. I mean, sure you get to get rid of a card in someone's hand, but Sadistic Hypnotist, just does the job much better. Why discard one card when you can fill your graveyard and strip their whole hand away?
Thoughts? I'll have a set review up in the coming weeks. Stay tuned Harvesters!
I don't know why I didn't think of Hypnotist considering I have one laying around. I personally find Liliana Vess far too useful to consider taking her out, however I could see Liliana, Heretical Healer being good in this deck so if you do try it out, make sure to tell us the results.
I forgot to ask in my last post but I was wondering if anyone had advice against voltron particularly in my meta there's Rafiq of the Many and Narset, Enlightened Master, Narset being the card/deck I'm having the most trouble with.
Hey guys, it's been a while but I'm back and happy to see the thread still around. I had to take a break from magic for various reasons but I am in full commander swing once again. What are your guys' takes on the new Commander 2015 cards, any specific ones that interest you? Anyways here's my current decklist, I'd love to get some feedback/suggestions (alternative link here).
I think Dragonlord Dromoka will probably be a powerhouse in this deck, but I'm not sure it's worth removing Abolisher for though, maybe Mikaeus, the Unhallowed depending on how he performs? I'm definitely putting it in my list (along with the new Sidisi) when I get a hold of one, the extra life seems really relevant recently. My list has been performing pretty well recently some of the better cards I've found at least in my list are Deathrender which can draw you a broken amount of cards with Greater Good and I agree with Ruther, Ashen Rider is really good. Recently I've had the problem where I need one or two of my big creatures from my grave to win, but it gets exiled before I can get them, so I'm trying to figure out a good way to get cards back at instant speeds, maybe Noxious Revival?
I might be mistaken but the first post of the primer seems really out of date. Is there a chance we'll see an update or a new thread in the near future?
Rutherjc19 pretty much covered a lot of good tips, but I'll try to reiterate, or point out some other things:
Swiftfoot Boots can work in this build. Just keep in mind that while it costs one more mana, you can stack up the equipped creature much easily.
Temur Sabertooth: I have been interested in this card too. Currently, I don't think I myself can run it, but with your Restoration Angel targets, I could see it working. Try to keep it.
Recollect: Regrowth is strictly better. If you can't find a copy, they were in a duel deck from a while back. Try looking into picking one up. The one mana less can be the difference in tempo.
Sphere of Saftey: Anyone can tell you that I am huge advocate for this card. But with 9 enchantments, it seems a little odd. This is actually the kind of card that Pharika, God of Affliction makes real OP. I think this is a card more designed for Superfriends rather than control. If you need a prison effect, try Ghostly Prison.
That is what I got from looking over both of your lists. By the way, I have a question for both of you. What is up with this Siege Rhino nonsense running around? I see that LordMidget is packing a Restoration Angel also, which seems like some awesome utility. What are you guys' two cents on both of these cards? I've been thinking about Restoration Angel for a while now.
I haven't been playing Teneb this month, but I think I may run him this Wednesday. Would anyone like to see something tested this week? Let me know by Tuesday so I can slide it into the list.
I agree that Sphere of Safety has been really ineffective, I'll test Ghostly Prison if I find one, but I don't really need a prison effect so I'll probably just drop it. Siege Rhino is mostly there because I don't have a better 4 drop such as Linvala, Keeper of Silence to play. Vault of the Archangel has been performing moderately but I haven't had much chance to test it with the recent shift in my meta. Restoration Angel has been excellent and can be game breaking if you have a Sun Titan on the field.
Overall I think I need to change some cards out to fit my new meta. Currently my meta is, a voltron Daxos of Meletis, a Aggro Shu Yun, the silent tempest, a partially voltron/partially artifact shenanigans Tajic, blade of the legion and a control Keranos, God of storms. The problem of the bunch currently is Daxos, as nobody chooses to deal with him until it is far too late, usually focusing on other players. The other three decks are not particularly concerning as I have an easy enough time dealing with them
Edit:
@Rutherjc19
Whip of Erebos is not where you want to be with Teneb, I've tried to make it work but it does more harm than anything. As for an exile effect, completely exiling their graveyards seems only useful when you have living death, I'd run something like Scavenging Ooze which is useful to target the cards you'd never regenerate anyways if you don't have Living Death and if you do you can just target their bigstuff
Thanks for the suggestions, first off I'd like to preface this post with some game reports. I ran the list above (minus the Artisan of Kozilek , plus a Resolute Archangel). I'd read your suggestions before hand but the games were to soon for me to edit much besides one card, however I noted the performance of certain cards. I won only one game but all four games were very close.
Cards performances:
Recollect, I'd rather this be Regrowth but this has performed amazingly for me I was able to fetch the Deathrender from my graveyard and take control of the game Game 3.
Birthing Pod, was okay but too easily countered by things such as an Icy Manipulator for too little of an effect. (The Icy Manipulator tapped me down for too long for me to recover from until he cast Rite of Replication on Wilt-Leaf Liege.
Wilt-Leaf Liege, this card as you said is a major disappointment in this build and I need to find something else to replace it.
Temur-Sabertooth, was an abosolute beast when I got him online, but he seems like a win more, and I'll need further testing to determine whether or not he makes the list
Grim Haruspex, by FAR the weakest card in my deck definitely deserves a cut, perhaps Dauntless Escort instead to protect from boardwiped
I'm looking to acquire a Rune-scarred demon and some Lightning greaves plus the ramp spells. but I need to know what else to get before i actively seek them out or order them. I might post a more detailed write up tomorrow but for now I'm exhausted and going to get some sleep.
Hi, thanks for this awesome primer it really helped me build a list that I finally liked with Teneb. Currently I am running a more control list and I was wondering if you could give me some suggestions on what to add or remove. Anyways, here's the list:
This list was originally a Yeva deck but I was unsatisfied with how it functioned, so I pushed the deck to the back of my mind (and my closet). One day however as I was glancing through some of my older rares and I came upon him, Baru, Fist of Krosa I laughed and joked to my friend about how I should run him as a commander for his Grandeur ability. Then it hit me that I had the green deck sitting in my closet, and so inspiration was upon me and I revamped the list to look like this:
I'm debating whether to run Traproot Kami or Skylasher or possibly another card. Suggestions and help for this deck is sorely really needed as I haven't endeavored to build a serious mono green edh deck before. Whether you leave a suggestion or not, thanks for reading!
For me it has to be Yeva. When I first started playing EDH one of my favorite decks was a Thrun, the Last Troll list that used Vedalken Orrery. I always wished the Orrery could be my General, then Yeva was printed and the rest history, I've been playing her for over two years now. Potentially making every creature in your deck an instant gives you so much flexibility and options on how to build: tokens, voltron, overrun stomp, fogs, tribal she does it all with gusto.
Yeva sounds fun and I think I have one sitting in my trade binder so I'll whip up a list for her. I think I might also pick up Seton and Kamahl to see which of the three I like better as they all look really interesting. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone!
My first ever commander deck was a Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger elfball deck, and recently I've had the urge to play a monogreen deck again. I was looking at Titania, Protector of Argoth as a possibility but I think she tends to lean towards a stax build which is not what I'm looking for in green.
Anyways to get to the point I was wondering what everyone's favorite monogreen commander is? Or any suggestions they have for a fun green commander. I'd prefer not to build an Elf tribal deck but I'm willing to consider it if I find an interesting enough commander.
Royal Assassin for Grave Titan and perhaps Stolen Identity, Cackling Counterpart, or The Mimeoplasm for Liliana Vess. I feel like Cackling Counterpart is pretty weak, but if you take it out it might mess up your curve so perhaps Stolen Identity as it's higher cost, or maybe Mimeoplasm but I don't know how well it performs in the deck. In general they all seem like clone effects when fetching one of your cards could be just as useful or more useful with Liliana, although I haven't played the deck so in the end it's your call on what you think would work best.
Nice list, I've always been partial to mill decks. Have you thought about Grave Titan for zombies and a big body and/or Liliana Vess for tutoring and recursion?
I think your list has some potential, but is lacking some things. First off some cuts, I'd cut all the creatures that you sacrifice on the end step. At first glance it may seem like a cool idea but more often then not either you won't have enough mana to board wipe and play one of them, you'll play one of them get in for 4-7 damage then have no board presence left, or you'll play one and your opponent has a response (i.e. a Counterspell). Also, If you're going to run things like Boros Charm and Rootborn Defenses you might as well take advantage of them by running creature cards that will stay on the field. Only other thing I would say to take out is Elspeth Tirel simply because she's the weakest of the three by far and doesn't help your board state.
Onto some card suggestions, since I recommended you cut six of your creatures, we have six slots opened for new cards. In place of the Elspeth, Gideon Jura and/or Gideon, Champion of Justice. Creature wise, Frontline Medic would be a good addition to combo with any board wipe spells you want to play that turn as well as countering things such as Sphinx's Revelation and the like. To help you finish off your opponent cards such as Aurelia, the Warleader would be a good idea. Another good addition woulds be Sun Titan to fetch Oblivion Ring, Oblivion Stone, Sunforger, as well as others. Those are all the cards I can think of off the top of my head. Feel free to ignore or use any of my suggestions.
I forgot to ask in my last post but I was wondering if anyone had advice against voltron particularly in my meta there's Rafiq of the Many and Narset, Enlightened Master, Narset being the card/deck I'm having the most trouble with.
