Guys I am trying to build a burn deck here... but I can't quite wrap my head around the reasoning behind running Eidolon of the Great Revel? Can someone explain to me why it is a good idea to run 4 of them, when my entire deck consists of spells that trigger his ability? I get that in most cases I'll spend 1-2 mana and deal 3 damage while only taking 2, but there has to be something that fits better than that...

    Glass Phoenix WURR
    Creature - Phoenix (R)

    Flying

tap symbol : Glass Phoenix deals 1 damage to each creature.

When Glass Phoenix enters the battlefield, it deals 1 damage to each creature and player other than itself.
When Glass Phoenix leaves the battlefield, it deals 1 damage to each creature and player.
Whenever Glass Phoenix deals combat damage, destroy Glass Phoenix.
If Glass Phoenix becomes the target of a spell or ability, destroy Glass Phoenix.
During your upkeep, if Glass Phoenix is in your graveyard, you may pay WURR to return Glass Phoenix to the battlefield.

    Hi everyone,

I started playing Magic when I was about 12 years old, just when Urza's Legacy was released. I played at a local card store for years, and was often overshadowed as there were older, smarter, better players who had money to buy the good cards. Over the course of the years I got much better, and was skilled enough to be competitive in tournaments, always looking up at those who made it to the Pro Tour. Well life got in the way, and I gave up magic right about when Ravnica came out. A couple years ago, to make my MTG future even worse, my entire collection of cards was stolen and I was left with nothing. That should have sealed the deal for me then, but here I am now looking to get back into the game.

I am now older, smarter, and now have the resources to do anything I want, drive anywhere for PTQ's etc. and I want to go after my childhood dream of reaching the Pro Tour. I downloaded the MTG online game and just started playing around with it yesterday, and now here I am on the forums to start learning about how the game has evolved since I left. I plan to hit a few PTQ's before the end of the year and get my feet wet and see how I stack up. Since I own zero cards, I'll start out with some sealed format tourney's and go from there. When I'm ready to put together a deck, I'll just go buy up what I need.

I spent some time looking over all the current top Pro Tour decks online too. I really like the decks that use all the direct damage and drawing with flashback etc. Looks like Finkel, and quite a few others played variations of it on the Pro Tour. Seeing as it is mostly commons too, should be affordable to put together a variation of that deck myself when the time comes.

    Anyways that's my story!
