One can argue that 5 walkers “die”...but, I was expecting at least a 1/3 of the oldest walkers to get their sparks ripped out of them. It would have been more poignant and made sacrifices more meaningful.
Angrath threw me at first, however it does make sense...if you make a couple of assumptions (which you know what that says). He shares colors with Bolas, he hates Jace and Hualti, probably Varaska as well. Varaska’s false memories probably have him featured. Bolas could be using him to to gather sparks, having forced him by “sparing” his family or holding them hostage.
Or he’s like Ob and Tibalt, sewing chaos
He's never actually met Jace, though? (Or Vraska, for that matter.)
Like, literally the closest Angrath and Jace/Vraska ever came to interacting in the Ixalan story was that Jace "sensed" a minotaur off in the jungle while he and Vraska were rowing their boat toward Orazca. Their paths never actually crossed, and Angrath would never have even known Jace existed.
This is twice that I've seen the idea that Angrath hates Jace posited, and I have no idea where people are getting it from. (The planeswalker decks? Which are full of events that never actually happened in the story?)
Because one I missremembered, two I wasn’t overly invested in the Ixalan storyline (took a break during Kaladesh, only barely came back for Ahamenkhet and took another short break during Ixalan). Was thinking that Jace and Varaska meet Angrath and Hulati while in the city.
While the gist is there, some of the elements are way off as far as timing.
Pre-history some 20,000+ years ago, Ugin and Bolas are born on Dominaria, spend centuries learning from their brothers and sister what it is to be a dragon. Ugin focuses on learning, Bolas on power. Years pass as they are separated, meet up on the mountain they were born on, end up fighting and Ugin planeswalks for the first time (possible first Planeswalker)
Centuries later- Ugin retuns to Dominaria, finds that Bolas and Arcades are at war, they fight again, Bolas’ spark ignites.
Between then and 10,000 years ago- Ugin and Bolas travel the multiverse, doing different things, Ugin building, meeting Azor, others, Bolas tearing down. Ugin and Azor come up with a plan to trap Bolas on Ixalan
10,000 years ago- The Brothers War between Urza and Mishra erupts on Dominaria. Lots of stuff happens, including opening the portal to the original Pherxian plane, Yaggmouth is discovered. Urzas spark ignites.
> 10,000 years Bolas discovers Ugin and Azors plot, goes to Tarkir and kills Ugin, Azor is trapped on Ixalan having given up his spark in the Immortal Sun. Also during this time Ugin, Sorrin and Nahari imprison the Eldrazi on Zenedark
10,000-70 years ago- Urza’s fight with the Pherxians and his experimentations take place, leads up to creating Tolerian Academy, Karn and the Weatherlight and the Pherixan invasion of Dominaria. Urza dies, the overlay of Rath onto Dominaria plus the temporal anomalies around Toleria causes the fabric of the Multiverse to fray.
60 years ago- The Mending. Teferi and others fix the Multiverse at a great cost. Teferi sacrifices his spark to close rifts while loseing Jamuraa and Shiv to his phasing spell. Kaladesh experiences the Aetherboom. Bolas goes to Amhenkhet and Alara, putting his plan into motion.

The exception that we know so far is Yanggu able bring Mowu with him between planes.
We know why this is? Post-Mending you can usually only 'walk with your personal effects, not even one other person or animal. I guess it's just a consequence of Yanggu's specific mage profile, and how that interacts with his spark?
Of course we all know the out-of-universe explanation is "cute puppy".
I mean, is Mowu just a dog (doubtful given that he can shift from "good boy" to "holy crap run away") or some kind of familiar that Jiang Yanggu can conjure at will? If he's just a normal dog, then he shouldn't survive planeswalking given that even the food Huatli took with her to Kaladesh was reduced to ash after she 'walked.
EDIT: Totally just noticed the thread title says "War of the Spork." Cute.
According to MaRo, Mowu is able to planewalk with Jiang Yanggu, as most PWs can’t bring other creatures with them, Yanggu is special in that way.
Hrd to call the 9 Titans really a team. More like Urza’s attempt at distracting Yaggy and potentially killing him if it went perfectly. The Gatewatch was actually a team from conception.
To point out something, Ravnica has become the “focal point” for Planeswalkers. In a story prior to Zendikar, Ral Zarek and Niv developed technology that was able to track planeswalkers who arrived on Ravnica. That is most likely how Bolas will know when enough PWs are there
They could keyword the instance/sorcery ability that’s “prowess light” or “drake ability ” as the overlap. Keeping what we like about it but limiting the creatures power.
Niv only suspectsvthat Planeswalkers even exist, nothing confirmed that is till Jace goes and talks to him. Niv is not even close to as old as Bolas, let alone as powerful. I wouldn’t be surprised if the 3rd set is setting up a brothers brawl, Nicol vs Ugin.
As for mechanics...eh...I wasn’t around for either Rav blocks so outside of maybe populate and new spirits...I’m not sure what I would like to see
