So all formats are suppose to play like Legacy? We have cards to deal with the greedy mana bases, its just no one wants to play them. Saw some Blood moons in sides but not many tectonic edges.
Having a "Wasteland-esque effect" in Modern won't make "all formats play like Legacy" by any stretch of the imagination.
People enjoy stability and people enjoy playing with powerful cards. That's the key to Legacy's success. It's a great shame Modern is not about those best qualities an eternal format can have, so I expect it to have the same fate as the nerfed Extended - nobody will play it after the PTQ season.
Comparing a established, several years old format with a brand new format undergoing its growing pains is pointless IMO. Kinda like comparing Tim Tebow with Steve Young, two athletic left handed QBs (similarities, there, in the way both Modern and Legacy are non rotating formats) but one is still in development, the other is a Hall of Famer.
Once the format stabilizes and they start reprinting cards aimed at Modern they'll be able to unban stuff and the format (or at least the banlist) will look better. At least I hope so.
The guy is a sociopath. Having the nerve to cheat while being filmed leaves me flabbergasted. Malicious intent is evident in the Kira episode (you simply cannot call bouncing a 2/2 hit by Cursed Scroll "sloppy play"), which calls into question his integrity regarding every other "mistake" he made.

Banning this guy isn't going to solve things, because there are two problems here.
The first is the actions of 1 person, which is easily solved by removing him from organized play.
The second, and far more important, issue is that cheating is likely far more rampant than most people thought before this week. The judging staff at major events is simply not good enough at catching cheaters. In other words, the integrity of the game itself has been called into question. Banning one person doesn't fix this. Surely there are many out there with enough self-control not to cheat when there's a camera pointed at them. Sure, this isn't anything new. But due to these events people are more aware now.
Having people doubt your game's integrity is very dangerous to the long-term viability of the game. I expect to see some significant policy changes out of this — whether it's hiring more judges for big events, sticking cameras at every match at PTs, or something else.
Though I suppose it's also possible that WoTC could try to portray this as a problem limited to SCG events. Things could get ugly.
If it's anything along the lines of "it makes some cards worse" or "it changes the format," guess what - Nacatl changes the format, too. Not much else you can do in control besides play white, MB deathmark, or pray they don't see hyperaggressive hands.
Probably Emrakul and Rite of Flame. Follow it with a long-overdue Stifle reprint.
Then unban Jitte and Ancestral Visions (or Bitterblossom, but I like AV better).
Ravnica is what brought me back from my hiatus since Masques. I get the feeling it was popular. Kinda like Invasion, it wasn't filled with bombs, but as a whole it worked very well.
My favourite block is Urza's, though.
