Today the story made sure we all realized that Tezzeret has no redeemable qualities and is not least bit likable. Fine. He is Bolas' #1 heal and he deserves much of the hate he gets. It was a good story. I believe we all knew where this was leading, so not exactly a lot of plot twists. The awaited confrontation between Liliana and Tezzeret will be delayed that much longer. This story lands right in B territory for me.
This was a solid return to the storyline. A nice peek into Gideon's thoughts that continues to dispel the all-brawn no brains stereotype some attribute to him. As always, planeswalker interactions are amusing, especially when it comes to enemy color aligned walkers who have "allied" themselves together. It was nice to get some action at the end of the story, but it would have been solid without it. Here's to hoping Saheeli joins the Gatewatch and this is not just a team-up. A- for today.
Nobody here is mourning Cancel becoming obsolete. Maybe, just maybe we'll miss the rarity, but that's about it. I see it as more of a long con played by WotC to emphasize Counterspell is gone for good but also to show that it is not strictly better than all 1UU hard counters. Cancel was just the messenger.
Bought the last six packs at one of my Walgreens. Pulled Torrential Gearhulk and Verdurous Gearhulk. Can't complain.
I have to admit I was envious of your luck and thought I had missed out on this. Was out running errands and stopped by a local Walgreens assuming they be all sold out since it was Friday. They still had 16 packs. Bought 'em all. I pulled a Torrential Gearhulk in the 2nd pack opened and thought "no way I am this lucky". A few packs later, sure enough Verdurous Gearhulk. Bonus for a Saheeli Rai opened in the last cracked pack. So thanks for the OP heads up, thanks for the inspirational story that got me in, and thank you Walgreens Pack Faerie for the good luck.
A lot of interesting tidbits in this story. Jace and Ral are frenemies now? Bolas is somehow hiding Amonkhet from other planeswalkers and has recruited Vraska into his Legion of Doom? Ajani is well on his way to joining the Gatewatch.
The story was written well enough. The passage of time was a bit abrupt, but not too distracting. The final showdown was short, but made its point. Overall, a nice way to advance to the next key point of the plot. B for the story today.
OK, so where do all these WU planeswalkers meet and become such good friends? Will Jace ever get into that club or will Tamiyo snub him in a way consistent with their parting and never invite him to her place to swap tales?
I was a bit scrambled at first until I realized whose perspective the story was coming from. Overall, a solid story. Many different storylines are coming together. I can see how this story and all the others mentioned today are leading to a confrontation with Bolas in the next block.
Ajani is a far more intriguing character to me now that he has ever been. How did he come into contact with all these people and form such strong bonds?
The Kaladesh story started slow but is really starting to draw me in after today's offering. A- for the story. A+ for all the lore we got today.
Relic Barrier. For the simple fact that my friend had Icy Manipulator, which at the time I swore was the most broken, unfair card in the world. Typical game in my extremely early days would be "at the end of your turn, I tap Barrier to tap your Icy." Every opponent EoT step, every game no matter what decks we were playing.
I take no issue with your point. Your scenario is not too different from most instances of activated hexproof when you only have enough resources to activate once. If your opponent has mana available the turn you play this, depending on your opponents colors, caution is warranted. Still doesn't change my mind about happily taking this in limited though.
I like that his first activation is, for all intents and purposes, free. Basically a 5/4 with one turn hexproof for 2GG. May not be constructed, but happy to take in limited.
I'm curious how the Gods will work here, since I doubt we'll get Devotion back so soon. I would love to see a "Devotion to [Card Type]" instead of a color something like "This God isn't a creature unless..."
W You have X Enchantments on the Battlefield.
U You have X Artifacts on the Battlefield.
B X creatures have died this turn.
G You have X Creatures on the Battlefield.
R You have cast X instant or sorceries this turn.
The proposed B and Red gods would have a disadvantage compared to the W, U and G based on counting permanents vs spells, abilities, and targeting requirements.
Their powers depend on abilities also: the blue and black ones could have better static effects/cost less.
Yes that could be a factor. I suppose if the incentive for them not to be a creature was high enough, the disadvantage could be negligible.
