I think a "convoke" walker would be entertaining (in regard to dropping two walkers in one turn). But I know that that would take up too much text on a three-ability walker. It'd be like looking at a f-d up J,tMS.

Not trolling, but the title is fine because you are all missing the "relative clause."

"The planeswalker LSV will be spoiling is Jace" is simply excluding the relative clause marker (that, which, who, whom, or whose). This is, in fact, a complex sentence with two clauses which are separately dependent and independent. Relative clauses can often exclude the relative pronouns by making the verbs progressive.

Your brain wants to read, "The planeswalker, that LVS will be spoiling, is Jace."
    Structure:
    Determiner (the)
    subject and antecedent (planeswalker)
relative marker / second clause object (that)
    relative clause subject(LVS)
relative clause future progressive transitive verb (will be spoiling)
    first clause linking verb (is)
    predicate noun (jace).

More on point, I'm praying that this jace will be properly costed and can be splashed for some form of card advantage. I'd hope for 3 mana, but I doubt Wizards would be that generous.

This overall seems like a budget design. I love that you're using extort, but it isn't practical to run that many mediocre extort creatures. Most times, when I've played around with extort, you don't have enough mana to extort every possible moment. Another big concern is a board wipe. If you suffer one, you're boned.

You might see it everywhere, but you should be using Obzedet, Ghost Council. When making a competitive T2 deck, you sometimes have to give in to the spike player staples, while using your own cards to make the deck your own.

The only extort cards I would recommend running are the Thrull Parasite and Blind Obedience. Also, Orzhov Charm is better in every sense of the use than Saving grasp since it is removal, revival for the thrull and the same bounce effect with more bounce.

One last comment is to run at least one island. Ghost Quarter might start seeing more play soon so you want to be able to find a fix.

Hands down WBR. You can't pass up 1 Furious Resistence, 2 Mugging as well as 3 of the two-drop Skinbrand Goblin as well as the Skyknight Legionnaire and Marshal Glory. Though it appears more aggro, it's control as well. Combat tricks is the name of the game in this sealed.

My argument for Esper would be the Evolve options. The 1 drop, the Sprites and the 2 Simic Fluxmages go well with the spectre and the overcosted bounces. I just don't think most people will have enough time to play the esper. Go midrange with WBR.

I think most people have forgotten the best argument for this card's creation: 2nd best flavor text of the set, right behind Blind Obedience.

I'm glad many other people hit the point of creatures that deal damage outside of combat damage being targets for this spell. Options are never a bad thing and questioning complexities of cards in the quest of simplifying the text to general usage simply takes the magic away from M:TG.

So far this set is beautiful. To those thinking they are hozing control, I really don't think they are. Countering spells shouldn't define control. People can play around counters, but an unexpected bounce puts a damper on any plan. Control is called ****** with your opponent. I'm excited to actually see some real control try to overcome these fantastic creatures that have worked their way into print. Honestly, Rakdos has better spells than creatures so far. All I know is thank GOD for a 4 cc sweep.

Been quite a long time since I last smiled like this over a preview. Out with the bad and in with the good times. Definitely an improvement in card quality in regards to the last duel deck.

Also a fan of the Izzet mechanic. Just as flavorful as scavenge, but a hell of a lot more interesting.

well, the city-plane is ruled by ten guilds.
Golgari focus on magical aspects of life and death.
Simic focus on evolutionary aspects of designing and experimenting with and innovating in the field of biology.
Dimir are secretive, that's kinda their only thing.
    Orzhov are religiously greedy.
Izzet are psychotic and ruled by the whims of a fickle dragon.
Boros are obsessed with crime and punishment and law and order through brutality.
Rakdos are practitioners of orgasmic murder sprees and love nothing more than carnage.
Gruul are wild. sometimes they respect nature but mostly they don't care.
Azorius pursue magical mysteries and logical puzzles and white blue ****. I might care about them more but I just don't, so although they could have a strong tie to technology I don't see it.
Selesnya preserve what little is left of the "pure" natural wild, but they are more like bonsai growers and less like actual conservationists, because while it's nice to preserve the outdoors, I find it hypocritical to do so by creating a sort of zoo area where trees are allowed to grow but only within that confined area.

I don't see any of these guilds having a strong tie to technological innovation, industry, an arms race, firearms, electricity generation, steam, coal, or magitech-powered energy generation, or similar technologies. Granted, any of their philosophical inclinations could readily accept any kind of disruptive technology, but then it's easy for us to accept that because we live in a world where we know that technology empowers everyone.

I don't know if you played back in 2005, but when they previewed Ravnica the guilds were more like this:
Selesnya - Cult like hippies who worship unity and nature's finest.
Boros - The city's police which maintain law and order.
Golgari - Morticians and the organic waste disposal services
    Dimir - Underground mafia-like organizations.
Gruul - Outcast fanatics; those that don't adorn the typical mainstream ties to the city and its functioning
Orzhov - The religion for the plane with historical ties to the bonds of church and state.
Izzet - The public services and inventors guild. Where raw materials tend to matter most.
Rakdos - The cult of cults who merely exist for the pure glee that comes from making society suffer. Your terrorists.
Simic - The doctors on the plane developing advancements for the inhabitants.
Azorius - The judge, jury, and executioners. Period.

The beauty of this block is how they related every color pair to a real job. So, yes there are plenty of sources of technology (izzet, simic), innovation (Simic, Izzet), firearms (that are relative to magic, boros) and other items of the like. Ravnica was either meant to or coincidentally mirrors our society.

  • posted a message on M10 Duals in M13
I'm quite shocked about all of the speculation of the Shocklands in the core set with RtR right around the corner... If you honestly expected shocks to be in the core set, you haven't played magic long enough to understand R&D. The M10 lands had to be reprinted to match the enemies in Innistrad, period (because only having enemy duals with ally and enemy shocks is just stupid).

That said, if and when the shocks come back in RtR I estimate their prices remaining the same or maybe higher. The combination of these two styles of (dual) lands make for one of the best standard mana bases ever. Because of how smoothly they make a deck perform (as well as all of these cards that search for island, swamp, plains etc.) people will want them more. My biggest peeve about magic is the possible mana screw. I will invest whatever it takes to get those lands if I'm looking to play in tourneys FNM and up.

If the shatty Scars lands could peak at shock prices now...... I wouldn't expect the increase of supply/demand argument to ever matter. It will be strictly demand once rotation comes.

Considering we are losing DoJ, Black sun, Slags and whips I don't find (at the moment) too many threats preventing 4 creatures on board for future standard. I'm sure Ravnica will bring some board wipes, hopefully, and we still have terminus, but Aggro decks are becoming a tad more popular with R&D considering that whole article about why creatures need to improve in power and presence (regenerate being a fine example) and other spells needing to stay the same.

I don't understand how these two cycles are comprable at all.

I honestly agree. I don't understand how this correlation was made. This new cycle seems built more upon flavor, in regard to Ravnica, rather than game play. Just because they are cycles doesn't mean they are produced for a like purpose (or a replacement) even though the legends might be playable (for once).

There is no way they will go back to something like Stasis. I'm betting a lot on more bounce top deck control such as Time Ebb. That is the future of standard if they feel "counters" are too controling. I would prefer bounce anyway. That pisses people off more.

    In what way?

In the way that the story progressed.

"OMG Kamahl is now GREEN!? Wasn't he just red?!"

It's the same plane in the same time frame, but things have changed from one block to the next. They stated in an article that this trilogy was meant to be looked upon as two blocks rather than one. So you have big set + little set apart from another big set (just like how lorwyn block was two groupings of two).

Same time, same place- different goal for the story now (Just as Odyssey block has a different focus compared to Onlaught block). The plane has gone from plummeting into darkness to rising towards the light.

I'm not going to sit here on forums and ***** about how things could be different or (in my relative opinion) better. I'm just going to accept what is printed and play it if I like it or quit if the game isn't fun with what pieces they have provided. Overall I'm pleased by every release to just have something new to mess around with.

I suggest you re-read defy death. Its gets any creature in your graveyard. The pump effect is only if its also an angel.

Bahahahahaha you got me Grin I promise to read better next time.

I'm still thinking that it's not a hatred for other colors or a response to shut down opposing colors as much as a response to white winning the battle as a theme. I still don't think these cards affect Standard in the way you might think they do.

LOL my rage senses are tingling!

You talk of white as though NOW it has the tools to shut down every deck out there, which in fact it hasn't acquired any that significantly overwhelm standard. Being upset about an angel that inverses Zombie Apocalypse is kinda silly, because the Apocalypse didn't even see play. The fact is no one will run an angel that is limited to only shutting down zombies. The only upside for this being a mainboard card is the reanimation of all your lovely humans.

As for the white reanimate.... it only gets angels... If it could get any creature and pump it, I would be outraged too (i guess- even though I love white just as much as I love black).

And you can play black any single day of the week. These two additions do NOTHING to shut down black. I see flavor as their main intention.
