That doesn't look anything like an Eldrazi to me. And I feel like if they were going to make a card mythic, it's going to depict something significant, not some 'random prophet' seeing 'the end'.

It's Emrakul. There's way too much stuff about Emrakul warping biology and turning native life forms into drones. And then there are all of these cards that clearly show that this is just the kind of thing that is happening on Innistrad at the moment. Emrakul. It's what for dinner. It's the Eldritch Moon

I'm aware of Tamiyo's journal and the lattice patterns on a couple cards, but I'm still not sold. Whatever Avacyn's holding back is most likely being depicted on cards like behold the beyond and deny existence. Has there been any discussion about those cards in particular indicating the "shape" of the BBEG to come? My big issue is that whatever that big twister of death is, it doesn't look like emrakul.

Orlouge, then what is the twister on Behold the Beyond and what is on Deny Existence?

I was think more along the lines of a mixture between Theros and original Zendikar.

    Story-wise, the Eldrazi.
Game-wise, arguably Marit Lage, but only by three years and Zendikar was apparently already being worked on by the time they added Coldsnap, which was quite rushed.
Marit Lage was created during the original Ice Age, so it's significantly older, creative-wise. Although, similar to Ugin it wasn't fleshed out at all until it actually appeared on a card.

We also don't actually know which is older, either way. They both existed about 5-6,000 years ago and presumably a lot longer before that.

Marit Lage was a throwaway reference on three cards until 2006, though. Even more than Ugin getting fleshed out later, there's nothing about the original things that made her particularly eldritch or abomination-y. She was related specifically to red/blue color hate and her connection to the Dark Depths portrayal is pretty spurious at best.

Wrong. Her old flavortext (IA Wrath of Marit Lage) quite clearly alludes to Lovecraft, and Cthulhu in particular. She is the original and first Magic reference to eldritch horrors.

She's also mentioned in the novel Eternal Ice.

I may have unintentionally insulted Noah Bradley pointing out the debate as to whether the art is depicting tornadoes or tentacles.

"lol, then clearly I need to work on my tornado painting skills if people can’t tell the difference."

    https://twitter.com/noahbradley/status/710670826660630529

Tbh, the dithering at the edges of the columns and the airy feeling are a dead giveaway that they're tornadoes anyway - they're not tentacles :p
I know they're not tentacles. What I want to know is if that's Nahiri in front of the tornado (Emrakul's tendrils are purple anyway, her body is the pinkish lattice). This would be the To Be Continued card that the first Eldritch Moon story card would start with if this is the final card. The name is what grabbed my attention because the Eldrazi have been associated with the word beyond directly, From Beyond, and if we get into the connotations of the word beyond, the list includes quite a few Eldrazi cards.

Noah Bradley posted a high res on reddit. It's not Nahiri. It's a masculine figure in heavy cloth garb.

Uh oh.. that looks like a Emrakul to me.

I think I have put the pieces together.

Emrakul was coming for innstrad the first time as well, that is why Sorin even joined the others in trapping the Eldrazi he is a black walker he doesn't care unless it's his own arse on the line or in this case he own plane. Nahiri is pissed that they didn't protect her plane now she is bringing emrakul where he always wanted to go.

It's not Emrakul. It's Tornados with a person standing in front of them...

I just ha a revelation a little earlier today: The next plane is going to be graveyard centric.

Here is why: From what we have seen so far, SOI has very little graveyard interaction but plenty of ways to get cards into graveyards (discard effects, madness). The only real interaction the set has with the graveyard (from what we've seen so far) is Delirium, and all it does is count the card types in it.

    So far we have:

Lamplighter of Selhoff (causes you to draw and discard if you control another zombie, Common)
Pieces of the Puzzle (puts between three and five cards from *your* library into your graveyard, Common)
Pore Over the Pages (draw three cards, untap two lands, discard a card, Uncommon)
Crow of Dark Tidings (puts two cards from your library into your graveyard when it ETB *and* again when it dies, Common)
Mindbreaker Demon (puts four cards from your library into your graveyard when it ETB, Mythic)
Lightning Axe (discard a card or pay 5 as additional cost, Uncommon)
Pack Guardian (discard a land card when ETB to create a 2/2 wolf token, Uncommon)
Explosive Apparatus (sacrifice to deal damage, Common)

That is eight out of 28 revealed cards, and that's not even counting the cards that place themselves in the graveyard when they resolve. That's nearly 30% of the cards.

And other than Delirium, there is no revealed mechanic so far that interacts with the graveyard, unlike the previous visit to the plane.

Could this mean that your next block is indeed the Egyptian/pharaonic inspired plane we have long wanted? I don't know, but I certainly hope so. Smile

It would certainly fit the detective theme going on with Jace's appearance. Chase down the McGuffin that will help deal with whatever new threat pops up on Innistrad/Nullify Liliana's Chain Veil problems. "Help me Jaci Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope. "

Ohhhh Egyptian-inspired world please. Finally get that Sphinx planeswalker. Would be cool if that's where Arjun, the Shifting Flame is from as well.
You, are after my own heart.
    A sphinx-walker is long overdue.

Arjun is a Hindu name and figure from Hindu mythology. I believe he is most likely from Kaladesh.

Just to add some more wood to the fire...
People here said that the body is what most resembles Bolas... because is a very unique tipe of body... no other dragon has it. Except, it's not! Please look at Balefire Dragon and Moonveil Dragon for example.

You see the problem with that statement is because your being logical. You have to approach it like the Chewbacca defence quote. That way everyone understands. The question isn't why do they look similar but why are we talking about this well before the release of the first set? That's like asking why is Ajani on a destroyed building in BNG art long before Theros was even out yet. It doesn't make sense to question it.

I have one final thing I want you to consider. Ladies and gentlemen, this is Ugin. Ugin is an elder Dragon from the plane Dominaria. But Ugin lives on the plane Tarkir. Now think about it; that does not make sense! Why would an elder dragon, an ancient intelligent being, want to live on Tarkir, with a bunch of crazy stupid mongols? That does not make sense!

The Elder Dragons are from Dominia, not Dominaria. Dominia is the name of the multiverse

Well, do you think I would have the first line in my sig just as empty bragging? Smile With your join date of 2011, you just missed "my time" Smile

In times long past, I was best Storyline poster of 2007, and if we were on old forums, you would see the trophy under my name Smile I am just not that active last years. Alongside MORT, MaybeEid, The Squirle Master, ixidorsdreams, Barinellos, half the former Greek Alliance clan and a couple of others, it was good times back when we had novels... and the worldbuilding, cards and creative was not so loose and disconnected from each other.

I just lost the zest for discussing much of the lore-related things recently, especially when Wizards started to break their own rules and retconning (I am looking at you, Scars of Mirrodin)...but this block kind of drawn me back. Let's see for how long.

So, do you believe Ugin is an Elder Dragon?

Have I said anything even remotely related?

I am not saying anything for now. Unless Wizards intend to make a retcon, only five Elders survived from the race, and only one lived to these days.
Only 5 were mentioned, and a big fat liar said he is the only one left.

Look, pal, there are two ways how to play the game. Either we will respect the only available, though limited, sources, that say what I said. Five survived, one ascended, and the one said that no other survivors of the Dragon War still exist.

Or we can say that Bolas is lying, and in that case the road is wide open to Wizards' retcons, like "oh hey, our another cousin Ugin was hiding in the closet all the time", and pretty much anything can happen, like it happened with Mirrodin. In that case I refuse to discuss the subject, because then really "anything may be true" and we are back to the reason why my interest in discussing lore dropped.

Leslak, yes, just the comics, one or two stories from anthologies, Legends II and Bolas's quotes from various sources.

All sources (The end of the dragon storms on Tarkir according to the UR article) point to Ugin being dead for at least 1000 years. Unless the conversations you're quoting Bolas occurred before that time (hint: they didn't), then he wasn't lying when he said the Elder Dragons were all dead; he killed Ugin long ago.

Also, there's no need to be rude to everyone.

    Oh really?

Spirit Dragon (example: Ugin) is a dragon who chose/was forced to be immaterial.

Dragon Spirit (example: Kamigawa dragons) are spirits who chose to manifest in dragon-like forms.

I see nothing sounding illogical here.

Yes, that does make sense, I must admit.

Why do you say that? Is Caranthir an expert in MTG lore?
