Thank you both. This means the EDH deck I want to build can still be done, it's just even more reliant on Mirror Gallery than I originally thought. This, inherently isn't necessarily a bad thing. I just need to prioritize sacrifice effects even more than I thought I did.

Hello all. I saw this question essentially asked somewhere deep in the forums but didn't see it answered so I'm asking again. Here's the scenario.

What happens if I clone a Dragonlord Silumgar and one of the 2 goes to the graveyard via the legend rule? Do I still keep both creatures because I control a Dragonlord Silumgar or does the effect tie directly to the specific copy of Dragonlord Silumgar that targed the card? Does the legend rule apply before the ETB effect and I just don't get anything if the cloned Dragonlord dies immediately?

What if I have Mirror Gallery, several cloned Dragonlords and one of them is destroyed? Do I only need to keep one dragonlord to keep all the stuff stolen with the others?

Your answer is pretty much exactly how I thought it worked but I wanted to be certain. Thank you very much. Smile It's a bit annoying but it's looking like Jund Aristocrats MIGHT be in the lead for a Highlander deck.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post. I'm considering building an aristocrats style Highlander deck and I'm trying to decide on whether to use white or not and one of the cards that'll probably break that for me is Return to the Ranks. I want to know if the timing on this scenario works.

Let's say I have 2 creatures in my graveyard with converted cost 2 or less, 4 mana available and something like 6 creatures on the board with cost 2 or less, one of them a sacrifice creature like Bloodthrone Vampire. Could I play Return to the Ranks, declare its X as 8, pay the 2 white mana, use the remaining 2 and tap all my creatures to pay the X of 8 and then, with the effect on the stack, sac my board before it resolved so I now have 8 legal creatures in my graveyard and return them all to the battlefield with Return to the Ranks or does this not work due to a missed timing trigger somewhere or something. I confess I'm not exceptionally good at understanding when something might miss an opportunity on the stack.

Which one of these guys will get aetherborn tribal deck?

Based on their covetous nature, the Dragonlord Silumgar seems the most obvious flavor fit. Though you could also do it with Sydri since they seem to focus on artifice and +1/+1 counters and Sydri can do both fairly well and call them her patrons. Sydri's the kind of person Aetherborn would patron.

Huh. I'm fairly certain the Contraband Kingpin is supposed to be female.

It says KINGpin. If it was female it woulda been named queenpin duh!

The Aetherborn are genderless and born of aether and thus have no need for sexual reproduction or identities. So the kingpin is neither male nor female.

I see Saheeli's relationship with Tezz as possibly being more along the lines of fallen hero. As head judge I can see him being an inventor of some note on Kaladesh and young inventors being enamored with his abilities. But I think perhaps Saheeli found out what was going on with him after her spark ignited and his pedestal cracks more than a little so I very much like the rivals idea.

It's kind of interesting since we know Tezzeret is on the Plane and Saheeli and he are foils to each other in their art I'm wondering if they'll be foils in the story. I'd love to have a little artificer showdown and find out just how naturally gifted Saheeli is. We've already got hints of her power and we know she can conduct herself admirably in an artificer duel from her first appearance... but she's still young and not supped up by Bolas so I'm curious how she'll fare against the more experienced and ruthless Tezz. Especially since I don't know if she's ever faced another Planeswalker in battle.

    My predictions:

WUBR:It lacks Green so it will be artifact centric.

I sure hope so. I kind of want to be able to cram Sydri and Saheeli into the same deck.

I'm digging Saheeli big time. I'm probably going to get the non-green 4 color commander just so I can transform my Sydri, Galvanic Genius EDH deck into a 4 color one that uses Sydri and Saheeli (mostly because I want Saheeli to show up on Fiora so those two can meet and shenanigans based on artifacts can ensue.)

I feel the need to spread some positivity. I've been dealing with way too much unfortunate negativity from people over this set already. Frown

One of the things I love about this set is that it feels like Wizards is finally giving us the "non angry Red" set. We've been begging to see other sides to red for a long time and this world's culture feels SO red aligned but not all that violent. It feels so fresh to see that. Also, red's getting to show off its creativity, its live fast, die young but smiling attitude and I love it even if red isn't even close to my favorite color in the game. I can really see my girlfriend being from this world if she were a walker for example.

I find it interesting all the people who are surprised by Liliana's going, "big sister," on Chandra so quickly. I didn't get that at all from this story. Yeah the speech patterns are a bit... odd considering she's a 200+ year old cradle robbing oldwalker (the age gap on her and Jace is just creepy the longer I think about it) but I think it's a bad idea to forget that Liliana LIVES for manipulation. There are hints that a lot of what she's doing with Chandra right now is an act designed to get a powerful but easy to read planeswalker on her side more effectively.

Remember, at the end of Eldritch Moon she established she needed to make her oath convincing enough to not tip them off to her duplicity. I think we're expected to assume that hasn't changed. If anyone can keep up a con game long term it's Liliana and we've known this going back as far as Agents of Artifice and further.

In response to a lot of the discussion on the previous pages of the last EMN story and Jace finding himself annoying feels a bit like the writers have been reading the forums and it makes me laugh a fair bit.

The way I read it, Emrakul realized that whatever was happening on Innistrad was NOT part of what she was supposed to do but she couldn't exactly just leave the plane. So, she took over Tamiyo's turn, and finished the endgame she'd been preparing for with by forcing her to cast a different spell to power up Imprisoned in the Moon rather than devastate the plane with whatever was actually in the scroll originally because she is well aware of what her purpose is and had herself locked away until the time was right.
