This feels like a mostly worse Griselbrand. I'm actually amazed it isn't mythic. For EDH, this is actually pretty great. This + Reanimate is hilarious, assuming it interacts the way I think it does. No reason to put this in over Griselbrand in Reanimator decks, though.
This card is terrible. 4 turns to ultimate, can’t minus the turn she’s out, and the plus is quite mediocre. I get that she’s a 3 CMC planeswalker, but I’d rather she be 4 CMC and be actually playable.
I hope future iterations are playable. Cool design at least.
We have a format with a ton of Planeswalkers. And if the return to Theros is true, then we’ll have a ton of enchantments. Creatures, Instants, Sorceries, Planeswalkers, and Enchantments. Sure, we don’t have fetchlands and Field of Ruin rotates out soon and artifacts haven’t really been a thing and obviously there’s no more tribal. However, that’s still a 5/6 for 2. I don’t see it.
And as others have said, the pic isn’t exactly convincing, however it does kinda look like 196 there with regards to the collector number. I dunno. It would be great for the game and show they’re serious about reprints and pushing the power level, but it is Tarmogoyf and this is a Standard set.
The fact it impacts loyalty abilities means this may actually see Standard play. Loyalty abilities don't cost any actual mana, so if you can untap with a PW, you can use that 4 mana to do some nasty things.
Worried about this + Wilderness Reclamation, but this is a great reprint for financial reasons.
The big question now is what the green one will be.
Regardless, I do hope we get a Vedalken Orrery reprint at some point, as that card is getting expensive too. Maybe it’ll end up in a Commander precon idk.
I'm hoping for Anticipation too, but with Reclamation decks running wild and Control being such a force, it may not be a good idea. I'd still love it just to crash the price a bit.
I like it, not sure under what circumstances it would see play, if at all, but it's an interesting way of setting up a red enchantment.
I think the fact it'll trigger on any permanent you control, not just you, not only means it shocks the opponent if they try targeted removal, but any kind of targeted removal on any of your pieces makes it very good. Especially in Standard, that's really powerful. I can also see this seeing a good amount of EDH play. I don't think it'll be close to the price of Sanctity or even Anticipation, but I do think it's much better than the other two red ones or the old green ones. Hopefully we get a new green one that's better than the old ones. Hopefully we get Anticipation and Void as the blue and black respectively for the financial value alone.
This is a tough build around. You really wish there were black in there, as so many good spirit cards have black. Not sure how I feel about this commander :/
Super disappointed in the showing of Slivers and Snow.
This set felt super safe, and not in a good way at all. I hope when we make it to Kaldheim, there will be some interesting snow cards. Maybe we can get Slivers again in a Core set a year or two from now, who knows. A lot of this set felt not efficient enough for Modern, despite the powerful cards, hence the Commander Masters moniker, and it definitely holds true. Will there be cards that see play in Modern? Absolutely, and quite a few at that. At the same time, a few knobs turned on a bunch of cards and they’d see play in Modern too.
I feel a bit let down. Maybe my hopes were unrealistic. I feel like if all the archetypes got the kind of love and playability the RG lands cards did, the set would be better. As it is, I consider this set to be a bit of a letdown.
Slivers was a ******* joke. Lancer Sliver costs 3 mana and gives your Slivers first strike. Are you serious? We already have a strictly better version of that, and at common! Snow was a ******* joke. We have very few actual playable cards. The only saving grace to Snow is we may be going to Kaldheim soon and we could see more actual playable Snow stuff. But Slivers was a major letdown to me. Honestly, the whole set was played super safe and I’m really disappointed.
By the way, the final reprint is Shelter, spoiled by Orcs Head Magic. Somewhat underwhelming being the last reprint spoiled, but not really surprising being only mere hours from the full set reveal.
Maro said the Cavaliers would be a cycle.
Wedge legends
Mono planeswalkers.
There’s 15, but Maro said there’s a twist elsewhere. So no mono white mythic angel at least.
I hope future iterations are playable. Cool design at least.
