The End of an Era

Honestly, I feel like Energy and Vehicles are fine... assuming they have good pieces to support them. How many energy producing cards will there be and how easy will it be to create energy tokens? While 8 is a lot of energy required for a 6/6, a couple of them on the battlefield + cracking a fetchland already creates four energy for you. Energy is extremely parasitic, but if there are a few reliable energy creators, it might be something you can build around.

As for vehicles, I think the flavor of the mechanic is a fail, but I feel like it can lead to some really interesting cards. The question is how interesting the cards are. The mythic vehicle that was spoiled was pretty damn uninspiring imo. If that's the pinnacle of vehicles, then the mechanic is a failure imo. What I'd love to see is a Crew 8 or even crew 10 vehicle that can do some really bonkers stuff, that could be fun and abuseable in constructed. And looking what we already have now, we have a 6 power vehicle that could be used to power an even more powerful vehicle, I really want to see a super powerful vehicle.

As for Fabricate, it's pretty vanilla but can be really good. Kinda reminds me of investigate, but I'm not sure we'll be getting a Tireless Tracker or Thraben Inspector for the mechanic to make it really worthwhile, but who knows.

    Not on the restricted list?

Nope, oddly enough. My understanding is only a percentage of Urza's block cards were on the RL, and this wasn't on it.

It does make sense in a multiplayer set...

If true, Eternal Masters is certainly looking more and more suspect, yikes.

Honestly not sure I agree with the EMA comment. I mean look at some of the cards it had:

    FoW
    Wasteland
    Karakas
    Mana Crypt
    JtMS
    Sneak Attack
    Top
    Vampiric Tutor
    Natural Order
    Entomb

    etc.

These are all $20+ cards. All good and relevant cards, and many of them really could've used a reprint. Yes, a card like this would really make this set top heavy, but there were a lot of really great, expensive rares in EMA that brought serious value that I don't think we'll see the likes of in this set.

Don't get me wrong, Berserk and S&T would be absolutely bonkers for an unlimited print run set that costs $4 a pack, but the odds you get market value for a pack aren't as good as in EMA imo.

Makes a TON of sense for this set. In multiplayer, this card truly becomes a double edge sword, way more than it would be in basic 1 on 1. Great card that could definitely use a reprint. Brilliant inclusion if real imo.

My hope is they view this as a huge success and after heavy feedback from the community, in 2 years for Magic's 25th birthday they make a Eternal Masters Reserved (EMR) set with all of the RL cards worth anything and some other highly sought after eternal played cards and then we can move the eff on from the RL complaints.

The big question is what will be in this set and what will be the rarity. Having FoW at mythic is not a good sign imo, though it is a good sign that Wasteland is standard rare. Honestly, the quality of the set doesn't mean jack assuming it has even a handful of the sought after cards, the set will still sell out. I just hope it isn't a situation where there will be a ton of junk rares and a handful of $100 rares, but that's usually how Wizards does it. I also hope that the P3K cards will be in the set, as they seem to be the biggest issue right now, but who knows.

This mockup of sorts has been running around facebook the lastest hours...any news from a more reliable source of this?

EDIT: IDK how to put spoiler tags here...T_T

I'm calling fake based on the font, it looks off.

As for it conceptually, I actually don't think ti's too strong, it's definitely an interesting card.

FTV: P9 makes no sense on numerous levels. I think it would be one of the dumbest decisions that Wizards could ever make.

If they do kill the Reserve List, the smartest course of action they could take is something like a paper version of Vintage Masters, with the P9 being even rarer than mythic rare, something like the rarity of a mythic rare foil or an expedition, and the foil P9 being half as rare as that. I'm a huge fan of abolishing the RL, but a FTV: P9 would be pretty ridiculous and insulting to the collectors.

Not much love for leonin shikari? I feel like the combat tricks it can create can be a great help in certain situations.

Random rules question, but what happens if you have a leonin shikari in play, put an equipment on a kor duelist and have it attack. If you switch the equipment off and put it on a creature without first/double strike after the first strike damage, does it also deal main combat damage?

Kinda dumb right when Wizards releases Warping Wail which has its uses against Twin and isn't tied to a specific color which would make splashing it in other decks easier.

I really wish Wizards would stop being scared pansies about power creep and just make cards that are powerful enough to deal with Twin and other "troublesome" cards. And, if anything, it would help them as it would sell people to standard and get people to buy new product. It's one thing to ban cards that are clearly too powerful, but this seems more like a business decision than anything, and I feel like they're being ridiculous with all of this.

This is such a funky situation. The fact of the matter is Wizards doesn't make any money from out of print cards. So many cards for legacy that are out of print mean nothing to Wizards since there's literally no way for them to profit from it. Sales of cards between collectors and stores has zero Wizards involvment, like Wizards would make no money at all off the sale of a Trop, unless I'm mistaken and part of being a certified store involves giving a certain amount of profit to Wizards, then I can understand it but tmk that's not the case. Obviously if that is the case, if Wizards makes a certain percentage off each and every purchase, it would make sense for them to have this kind of policy, but enforcing it would be near impossible in many cases. By forcing no proxies, what they're doing is catering to the collectors and the LGS/web stores by basically forcing players to invest in cards so they can play official matches. It doesn't make any sense at all form Wizards' perspective to ban proxies from non-sanctioned events. In fact, allowing proxies in non-sanctioned events helps them in that players can test and mess around with cards, and if they like the deck they're using, they can invest fully and take part in sanctioned events. However, the fact is there seem to be quite a few LGS who are ok with a limited number of proxies ni non-sanctioned events, so this is really only catering to the collectors. However, in the long run you can argue this hurts collectors because this would slowly kill legacy and vintage as the number of actual cards decrease over time and the eternal formats become barren and the value of those cards goes down.

Honestly, the Reserved List needs to go. The big question will be whether or not the big money cards would lose value if they were reprinted. However, with so many fakes out there and how much better they're getting, you have to question if the value of these cards will go down just because people don't know if they're real or not.

As someone who doesn't have tens of thousands of dollars worth of cards on the reserved list, I'd be absolutely thrilled if there were a way for cards on the reserved list to be acquired for a fraction of the cost while simultaneously replenishing the very limited supply. However, I totally understand why someone with the card already would not be a fan of it. The potential for that card to totally sink in value is too high, even if you give it alternative art and all that. I think it would be absolutely amazing for the game for the reserved list to go poof and all those cards get reprinted and we can see a healthy legacy and vintage environment. But it is a collector's game first and foremost. I pray Wizards will change their policy, but I doubt that'll happen any time soon.

The first effect is what makes this card so spectacular. At first, I thought it only said toughness, but when you factor in power, it hits a buttload of really obnoxious creatures across modern and eternal. The other 2 abilities just add to the versatility, specifically the last ability where it can either be a chump blocker or give you a potential 4th mana on turn 3. Would've loved the second ability to have countered instants as well, but oh well. It's a great card that'll see plenty of SB play and potentially main deck play in modern and eternal. That first ability is just so weird and bonkers. For an uncommon, I freaking love it.

The great thing about the Mimic in a Dreadnaught deck is you can use the mimic as a sacrifice for the Dreadnaught. Because the power becomes 12 for the mimic, you put the triggered abilities on the stack in a way that you assign P/T to the Mimic first, you can use it as a sacrifice when the Naught's triggered ability pops up.

But knowing Wizards, they'll errata Dreadnaught to prevent the combo from ever happening Slant

Just shows that you do NOT know Wizards. They stopped doing power level errata many years ago.

Also, this combo is nowhere near an issue, especially considering it can happen only in Legacy or Vintage.

Not entirely true. Dreadnaught was actually the subject of a controversy. It and Lotus Vale/Scorched Ruins have the exact same text and trigger concept, however due to the rule being different at their time of release, Wizards errata'd all 3 because the new rules allowed them to be manipulated due to the stack that didn't exist at the time. Naught got its errata removed several years back, but they kept the two lands' errata, even though both the lands are power level errata. If this mimic gains any traction at all, I can see Wizards changing the oracle to what the two Weatherlight lands have. We'd all obviously love the two lands to be errata'd to match Naught's oracle, but it seems that'll never happen.
