So a cheaper psuedo-blightning is worst case scenario? that's nothing to sneeze at. a 9/6 attacker for RRBB and exiling 5 cards from the yard is always welcome too.

    The Binding of the Titans has four titans on it, Uro is the front figure, two more behind him and a fourth behind the god. Full art here;

Hmm so one extra mythic in the set?

I guess it could be considered a cycle if you throw in polukranos

Anyway kroxas should be the one behind the hooded one behind uro

Isn't that 3 titans and a warden loosing control of them? I'd go further than than asking it as a question even. Based on the spear that is almost certainly Klothys, God of Destiny and 3 titans. The artwork isn't 100% an analogue but some liberties are allowed given that this is an event cloaked by time.

Look on the left side under her right hand next to the chain, thats a 4th prisoner.

Why yes there is, my bad.

It seems weird that the other members of the cycle are enchantment creatures and the blue entry is not. He also doesn't have an enchantment related ability. So, while he does fit in terms of name there are lots of legends of the <name>, the <ominous thing> variety. I'm on the fence for now.

I’m guessing he’s not an enchantment because of the limited amount of space available in the card type line, WOTC must have decided making him an Elemental Giant was worth him not being able to also be an enchantment. There is a giants matter card in Eldraine (and probably more to come in Ikoria) and there is the Elementals matter theme of M20. He could also could not be an enchantment simply because they wanted to limit the amount of ways people can trigger constellation at instant speed.

Don't get me wrong, I see the arguement in favor of him being part of the cycle. But he won't be the only rare creature in U in this set so he may just be a plant and there may be another legend that fills the cycle. Again, I'm still not sold either way.
Some cards I haven’t seen mentioned yet with this card are Agent of Treachery and Into the Story. Agent can be cast on curve the turn after Thryx and be uncounterable, and if your opponent had 7 or more cards in their graveyard Into the Story is an instant speed, uncounterable pay 1UU to draw four cards with Thryx in play.

I assume this means we'll get a cycle of Rare Mono-Legends as well? This is the Blue one and we already had the Black one and the Green one.
As for the card itself, it seems great, but a bit random? I'm a bit rusty on my classical mythology, so I'm going to assume it's meant to represent one of the many personifications in Greek myths, like the sons of Nyx like Hypnos and Thanatos, but I could be wrong? IDK, it's cool but yeah I assume it's a plant for a future set, because it seems so random compared to everything Theros is already trying to do.
Eh. If it’s a cycle this is the first time I hate the blue option for being a boring creature type

Honestly I need more than an intervention from the Theros pantheon to even begin handling this card!!! I need a god with island walk at this point! Fetch me Jesus because I absolutely cannot C a n n o t

The card itself - excellent. The effects are all collectively on theme, beneficial to a sea monster deck and very flavorful. The art is, as every card in Theros thus far has been, absolutely phenomenal and beyond reproach. By the salty nectar of Thassa’s sea breasts the flavor has been just everything in this set!!! Now I NEED to see the art on the 8/8 kraken token!!

y’all remember when I was designing dumb Theros themed Sagas with similar effects to this? I finally get one!! A true mythic!!!

Now for the sad. First of all, this could have been themed around the legend of the polis Arixmethes sinking. I really want an Atlantis saga because that story is part of Theros lore and is more ancient than Thassa facing off against Kiora. Also, I don’t appreciate the propaganda against Thassa. I knew she should have just killed Kiora on sight. I am a Thassa loyalist and I’m not having this. Thassa had multiple, multiple opportunities where she either could have killed Kiora or actually almost did. But Thassa is a curious blue legend that unfortunately wanted to know more about other worlds and their oceans. I probably would have acted the same way. But having the Bident stolen is hardly beating Thassa. Kiora ran away like a coward at the last moment and doesn’t dare return to Theros. Still, I can see why it could be perceived that way. What implications does the loss of the Bident have on Thassa’s devotion and power? That I still wonder. There are myths of Thassa getting defeated by Callaphe which are false as well though so it ain’t new. Jealous bitches gonna hate

Anyway! I hope there’s a rare blue saga as well that pertains to Arixmethes but frankly this sort of satisfies that demand for me in a way as well. I do wonder how mortals tell and interpret this mythical saga on Theros with minimal knowledge of planeswalkers

Gaaaash I cannot wait to play this card!

And this and the card are everything I hoped they would be.

There must be a Giant theme in Ikoria or something. Why couldn’t this have been a Kraken. Sigh. It’s exactly the sort of support the deck needs

I believe, my friend, that we will be getting screwed on our Krakens for this set.
I also believe this sadly. Titans and Giant tribal for whatever reason ate up design space that krakens would have otherwise had. Which royally sucks.

That said, I love Shoal Kraken and I’ll play Nadir Kraken despite its shortcomings. With all the Thassa themed cards, there are many new cards fighting for space on my sea monster deck already. But I am sad we didn’t get a tribal support card for krakens at least, like whelming wave Frown

I'm afraid you're right but looking forward to the gleeful discourse that will happen should you be proven wrong. I honestly won't care half as much about the card as I will about reading your response to it.

    2) Can we go back to the second card drawn archetype from Eldraine? This UR flash archetype seems way weaker.

I mean, I love that archetype. I'm playing it as my main Arena deck right now so I'd love more support. BUT... I don't want any archetype to become evergreen or pseudo-evergreen. That's part of what keeps limited fresh.

Many archetypes are evergreen or pseudo-evergreen in limited, because of color specialties. E.g. WU fliers, or R+something aggro (the other color can vary among the non-blue colors, but most RW,RG,RB limited decks in all sets are aggressive). This is also why people can say that a card is good in limited, even then most of the set has not been spoiled.

That's a fair point but not really a what I think of as a "limited archetype" so much as the inherent color identity of each color & color pair. IMHO, a draft archetype is how that identity presents itself in the current environment. GB will always be some version of Rock (control + beats) right now the "food matters" archetype is how that manifests itself. UR will always be some sort of spells matter. Right now that manifests itself as 2nd draw, at one point it was Surge, it's also been "creatures that care about instants & sorceries" sometimes it's Prowess It will 100% be "creatures that care about instants & sorceries" again, just as hopefully it will be 2nd draw matters again at some point in the future. But to have it be 2nd draw matters twice in a row would diminish the variety of the format.

Well, I'll take a Cavalier of Gales (or any cavalier for that matter) for 4 on T6 with mana back to cast removal or a counter spell so I't not like there's no value between now and the spring set.

If nothing else in standard you can counter like 15 cavalcade triggers on the stack.

and the related Scorch Spitter and then the Chandra's Phoenix triggers won't even go on the stack as a result. Beautiful tech against mono-red.

    Edited for clarity.

You can't mix Escape with other alternate costs like As Foretold or Fires of Invention. Can't use two alt costs.

Fair point. I'd been thinking of those as timing/condition restriction changes like Leyline of Antipation rather than alt costs but that does make sense.

If you were to pair it with As Foretold you could get one cast out of your graveyard but pretty much all the other "without paying" effects are very specific about from hand, from opponent's graveyard or from top of library. Weirdly, your best option is probably Fires of Invention but that seems a waste of the Breach as it would have to be your other spell that turn.

It's a gem from a flavor perspective and if you find yourself in U/x this is a great boost to the spells in opponents turns archetype.

They continue to make Green the color of draw, eh? I understand that there's a rarity difference between Setessan Champion and Shoal Kraken but given the CMC difference and that the champion gets a +1/+1 counter, does the Kraken really need to loot rather than draw? Don't get me wrong, I appreciate that fueling the yard can be very helpful but having played The Royal Scions throughout most of Eldraine standard along side Gadwick, The Wizened there are plenty of times when I'm not looting because I've got exactly 1 card in hand.

They seem to have a quota of putting a ton of looting effects in every set now. The benefit of this is how it helps with consistency, but a 5 drop uncommon is going to have minimal impact to increase consistency, probably triggering only once per game. It's also a pretty weak reward for playing enchantments. Of course some cards are bound to be weaker than others, but I think they would benefit by diversifying their effects a bit more.

I agree, the argument for this design seems to be that the constellation effect is nearly trinket text. That's fine, I get a 3/5 uncommon having inherent value in limited formats. But since it's not an enchantment itself it wouldn't even replace itself with a draw effect. Honestly, scry 1 would feel better than looting and still drives up that consistency without increasing the power dramatically.
