Old Rasputin is an amazing Imperial Stout, and definitely tops my list of favorites, but I would have to say that Delirium Noel and Deschutes Hop in the Dark CDA would be my go-to beers.

  • posted a message on atheistic vs religious government
The only thing I want is to see both sides represented fairly. I am a nonbeliever ( I abhor terms like 'atheist'), but I am also a conservative. I want to see nonbelievers holding public office coming out of the atheist closet, but I also want to see the government allow school prayer ( for those who desire it), and I want kids to learn intelligent design and evolution and ,make their own choices.

I don't think that you can actually make a judgment on which would be better, because both serve important purposes. Allowing one or the other to reign supreme would either demonize faith, science, or both. Ultimately, it is just much better for our government to avoid such questions.

I run one copy in the 75 of my Esper-Blade, bouncing back and forth between board and main. I think this card is really underrated, and it has gotten me out of some tough spots. In thinking what I have done so far with it, this is what I can recall:

    - Copied a Tumble Magnet
    - Legend-ruled a Shelodred
    - Copied both Feast and Famine and War and Peace
    - Copied a Sunblast Angel that my opponent control after he attacked.

It is quite useful. I think that any more than 1 or 2 copies is bad, though.

I am planning on running this:

    MB-

1 Sword of Feast and Famine
1 sword of War and Peace
    1 Mortapod
    1 Batterskull

    SB-

1 Sword of Body and Mind

I just think that we are fully capable of running 4 equipment maindeck, especially since two of them are "creatures", which are never a bad thing. And Body and Mind isn't seeing much play, at least in my meta, but I still think it is a nice one to have sometimes.

  • posted a message on Where are foil Mental Misteps going to end up?
I traded an Elspeth Tirel for my foil one, which made me feel really dirty, but the guy I was trading with was very happy, so I was happy. Granted, when I picked it up, I was convinced that it was only worth about 10 bucks, but I knew I had to have it. The premium this card is fetching is insane, but I think that it will stabilize at 25 to 30 dollars. I don't feel that it will make such a massive impact on Legacy as to shoot its price sky high, but if it does, I will be okay with that because I have 2 playsets of Missteps!

I ran the combo main at my recent GPT and I was very unhappy with the results. It is just so underwhelming when it comes down sometimes, and, as has already been stated, doesn't work well with the main plan of the deck ( i.e., bash your opponent to a bloody pulp).

  • posted a message on Koth is horrible
I have to agree with the Hero aspect. I find that many times when I topdeck Koth, I am only irritated that it didn't happen a turn earlier, whereas when I topdeck Hero, I am never upset by it, and it is usually enough to put a game away ( unless you are in late turns, which is already bad for the boros player playing against any good control deck). I run three Hero main, and I have two Koth in the board, because there are times when you really want him, but I also mainly use him to generate enough mana to drop a Gideon, Baneslayer, or Inferno Titan ( yes, I run Inferno Titan in the board, and he is the absolute nuts). However, I also run a fourth Hero in the board, and I often bring him in before Koth is even really considered. If I had to make a choice right now, because of the metagame, the prominence of Hawks and other stupid 1 power creatures, Hero of Oxid Ridge is the number one pick.

I wouldn't mind finding out that a magic-playing friend of mine is gay, because I happen to be gay. I think people pause more often when they find out I am a proudly right-wing, Tea Party activist homosexual. I digress. I have never seen nothing but kindness from other magic players when they find out that I am gay. My family and some of my right-wing friends disagree with it, but I expect as much and I don't really need their approval.

  • posted a message on Does anyone know the official ruling on using foils in tournament decks?
I am wondering what the rules are in regards to using foils in my tournament decks. Obviously, here in Dallas we have a Star City Open in a couple of weeks, and Grand Prix Dallas after that. I have a bunch of foil in my deck ( because I have a disturbing obsession with it), and I needed to know if a certain amount of my deck has to be foil, or if it has to be all or none. I tried searching for the answer using the search tool here on the site, but to no avail. Any idea?

  • posted a message on Is adventuring gear still needed?
I personally run four equipment in the deck:

1 Sword of Body and Mind
    2 Adventuring Gear
    1 Bonehoard

I use to run 5 equipment, but I felt that 4 was all I really needed. In saying that, the number of equipment you run is really all based on your meta. Mine has a bunch of control decks, so I want more burn to get them really early, or to at least use as counter bait so I can get things like Oxid Ridge on board.

Adventuring Gear is a card that, while not being crucial to the deck, is still an extremely important card to be running. Granted, a lot of times when I win, I don't have a gear on board, but when I do, it is just a blowout.

  • posted a message on [Opposition] Caw-Blade
I top 8'ed a GPT this past weekend with Boros, and the only matches I lost were to Caw-Blade decks. The deck is ridiculous game 1; it's even more insane game 2. I have been thinking that our 75 needs to possibly be metagamed towards defeating Caw-Blade. If we look at the recent Star city DC results, we see an insane amount of Caw Blade in the Top 16. Clearly, if you ain't playing Boros, you are probably playing Caw-Blade, or simply having a hard time beating one of the two.

I am in the process of removing Mirran Crusaders from the deck, because while the double strike is very important, he is slower than I would like him to be, and the protection does nothing against Caw-Blade. I am entertaining running either Condemn or Divine Offering main, because these not only hurt Caw-Blade, but also are strong in the mirror match. I find that being able to keep them off there land is super important, so I have also been entertaining Goblin Ruinblaster as a possible sideboard card, but I still have my reservations with him as well. The haste is a wonderful thing though, and during my testing, that small amount of damage is key.

Im here in Dallas, and we have a Star City Open on March 19th, and I fully expect that the field will be dominated by Caw-Blade and Boros, thus, these are the decks that we need to be tuned to beat. More removal seems like the answer, and I am not comfortable running a Gideon in the board. You simply have to be much much faster than Caw-Blade, and Gideon does not help that.

I do think that a lot of boros vs. caw-blade matches are lost because of overextending. There are times when I am testing against Caw-Blade, and I hold back important cards like Squadron Hawk to recover from a DoJ. I don't know, there is a lot that can be done here.

  • posted a message on Anti- Mill cards?
I don't really like calling Pyromancer Ascension decks mill, because they can win in other ways too. I play the deck, and if anyone is playing Pyro and not running Ravenous Traps in the board, then there is a problem. That card is super important here. I consider PA competitive, but if the deck is designed to just mill, that is most definitely not competitive.

Limited GP in Montreal sounds like fun. Maybe I can swing that when it is time.

@Semantics- Jealousy over those bombs. I did a draft the other day at my local shop, and I am not sure what the hell these guys were doing, but I should never be able to get six myr, and then 3 myr galvanizer, and Indomitable Archangel to make it interesting. Lets not forget double chrome steed, rusted relic, and 3 origin spellbombs which did far better than I could have supposed.

    Quote from Elondor
Is anybody having issues with Consistancy? It is something I have an issue with often running Quest. I think that I have to much Equipment but I don't think that would cause an issue with the consistency. Feedback please and tips.

I know for me personally, I am not a fan of the Adventuring Gear/ Steppe Lynx/ Fetchland builds. I feel that these builds can offer even more inconsistency than the regular Quest builds, because at least in those builds, if you get mana screwed, you aren't just going to be stuck with a 0/1 cat that can't do a thing, and the mana-screw makes Adventuring gear downright useless. I also think Strata Scythe is good versus the mirror, but maindeck-worthy only if your area features a ton of Quest decks. Otherwise, I would cut it.

In regards to Sword of Vengeance, I personally only run one and I run two Body and Mind. Yes, Vengeance gives them haste, but it costs one more to equip than Body and Mind, and doesn't have nearly the same effect as Body and Mind does. Getting a free 2/2 is stellar, getting to mill your opponent rocks, and making your creature pro-blue and pro-green is fantastic. I find this especially funny when I have Body and Mind equipped to my Firewalker. Good times.

If I had your build, I would cut the Steppe Lynx and the Adventuring Gear, the Scythe, and 1 of the Vengeance, and probably 1 Mystic ( because I tested with 4 forever, and 3 seems a much more solid number, IMHO) and add 4 Kor Duelist and 4 Squadron Hawk. There has been considerable debate here on Squadron Hawk, and I am a Squadron Hawk junkie, but I suggest you give it a try first and then decide if you like it or not. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Squadron Hawk, alongside the fetches, get more cards out of your deck so you can get to the real meat and potatoes of the deck. And it is a decent flyer that can ultimately go in for a lot of damage if equipped. I don't know, you should just give it a shot to see what you like. Also, as you would still have 5 equipment in your deck, you might not need that second Body and Mind. 1 of each should be okay. I just personally run two because I think it is a sick, sick card that I have a disturbing obsession with.

Anyways, that is my two cents.
