Im baffled that people still trying to consider UW mill as a competitor.
In case you guys have not seen the title of the subforum(aggro and tempo) or just decided to completely ignore it, here's a couple of remainders:
1.Mill spells DO NOT really do anything until our opponent has no cards in his library(if anything, you are helping most decks).
2.Ergo, for #1, mill spells ARE NOT a good wincon(which is usually what UW mill tries to do), if you want to play UW theres a million better wincons than mill.
3.Responses in mill decks are pretty much a way to slightly delay the opp so we can mill the heck out them, the deck should be based on density of THREATS,not ANSWERS, we are in an enviroment in which you cant have all the answers.... especially if we have to dedicate 8+ slots to our wincons
Guys, i also love mill, but get it into your head, mill in modern is a TEMPO deck, which is more on par with Burn that with control... and should be played as such until we have a good enough milling spell in UW
that "may" take care of the eldrazi problem(has not been such a big deal since 2015 to begin with)
BUT...
i was actually expecting a "glimpse" with "each opponent" attached,
that would largely solve the leyline problem, since we already have the tools to grind slowly(manic scribe, mesmeric orb) but we need the big spell to keep the pressure, since 8/10 times they would run us over when they have LoS on play
we have like 14 rares left... but i dont think dimir has more than 1-2 spells left at rare, so its likely we wont get the milling spell we are all waiting for...
and if u guys are trying to mill with AT, as an ex-esper mill player, its not worth the splash... your deck gets way less consistent, and opponents wont go for the land most of the time... just go ub instead...
besides if we DO get a milling spell, it will be probably phrased as "each opponent", rendering the whole "LoS" issue mute
It's interesting that the Dimir Guild has not yet had a mill card revealed. They're really pushing Surveil, which admittedly is a pretty powerful mechanic.
I'm interested to see the split card. Mill's biggest weakness I find is Leyline of Sanctity and Eldrazi effects, with the latter being really effing annoying, so I'm keen to see a toolbox card that maybe can deal with that.
rare split was a bust
eldrazi effects are not such a big problem now... we have surgical, leyline of the void or, if you want to be really inventive, old lazav...
LoS effect is still a big problem that i really want the mill card on this set to address.... in case we get one... sigh
zurgo helmsmasher voltron: since 2015... it used to be a tariel reckoner of soul, with a theme of angels and reanimation, but i got bored of it pretty quickly... only thing that didnt bored me was the whole mass removal thing and the colors... so i knew i wanted a mardu voltron commander. To this day is my most expensive deck: almost full foil and almost full masterpieces
marchesa, the black rose: since 2014... i always have been dabbling on grixis since the color combination came to be known as such. when i got into commander back at 2012 the first idea was to have a grixis commander with sinergy, but the options where pretty limited: sedris and traximundar where too expensive and didnt really apeal to me. after conspiracy got out, i build marchesa, played it and never looked back. It has had various reworks each yeah and right now is my go-to 1v1 competitive deck.
lazav, dimir mastermind: since last year... hes pretty much an excuse to both play dimir and to mill agressively

Peace ut
wo got shafted on the rare cards.... pretty much a grind x 2... which many cards have done in the past... nothing good to write home about...
they didnt even tried to clean the text on the enchantment so it could actually be taken seriously as a modern mill sb(still say "target player")
meh..

this has been the best set in std since kaladesh( and those sets that preceded kaladesh didnt help matters much)
guess haters gotta hate
mumm-ra.... is that you?
obvious art and crappy flavor text aside.... this is a great card in EDH... too great methinks....
it wouldnt be BAD per`se...
but it lacks cards like crypt incursion and hedron crab... which are the backbone of the modern deck
and NO, minister of inquiries is NO hedron crab
manic scribe is a good start tho... it is used in modern also
2 of this babies on ub mill on main and we are set, baby!!!
still, mill on modern has had a lot of hate over the years which impeded its potential(big eldrazis, leyline of sanctity... among others)
good thing they finally gave mill a legimate contender for the 2nd turn 3 spot
WOTC might as well put a new rule on Mtg: "is mandatory to play green"
EDIT: in STD at least
ex- cu - se moi?
marchesa, the black rose dissagrees, with that whole statement....
the honor one, i mean
