To spark some discussion, I decided to create ten random packs while organizing my Cube to see what the communities picks would be. I tried to make the packs fairly balanced without any obvious first picks, and I tried to make the first picks fun and interesting.
So here's the situation, it's P1P1 and you are seated in between two 1850 rated players who know what they are doing. It is an eight man draft, and none of the drafters are biased in what deck they want to construct. Aggro, Combo, and Control are all equally supported.
I started out with a game loss to Tog after t2 Tog into t3 Jitte equip swing gain 4. Game 2 I drew all four Tormod's Crypts in 5 draw steps, only one of which was in my opening seven. He gets a Thoughtseize into a double Therapy on Turn 3 and I scoop shortly afterwards.
Match 2 I play against Death Cloud, one of my best matchups. I keep good hands, but succumb to Deed for 0 t3 both games to wipe out all of my red mana. Perhaps I should have mulled Great Furnaces into Mountains?
I swept the 4 rounds 2-0 each time, playing Dredge in Matches 3 and 4, and Red Deck Goyf in Rounds 5 and 6. Round 7 I had a great match against another Red Deck Goyf Deck, and lose a close round 3 after he topdecks a game breaking Molten Rain for the win.
I drop after 3 losses since I can no longer make top 16 to win prize. I believe there were 198 people in attendence, lots of RG Goyf varients, lots of Bubble Hulk, and I only saw 2 Doran decks the whole day.
I was under the impression that the Great Furnace would become an Artifact - Mountain and still be a legal target for Shrapnel Blast.
If I play Shrapnel Blast and attempt to sacrifice an illegal target, would I be obliged to choose a legal target? Would I have the option of fizzling the spell..? Would I be able to take back the spell..?
I think I know the answers, but I am interested in your guys' opinions.
What's the best way to disrupt the combo if I have an Incinerate in my hand and mana open to play it? I was playing someone on Workstation who said I couldn't stop the combo with just an Incinerate (I think I can) and quit before we could go through the motions.
I assume I can just Incinerate the Carrion Feeder when the Reveillark's return trigger is on the stack? Do targets have to be announced before the trigger resolves? Is there a way to continue the combo if I kill the Carrion Feeder with Reveillark's trigger on the stack? Is there a better way for me to stop the combo?
I'm just looking for a little bit of insight here.
In my opinion, Fertile Ground is only worth it in decks abusing Garruk Wildspeaker for insane mana acceleration. In a format where Venser and Riftwing Cloudskate are heavily played cards, I hink giving a tempo deck a three for one in the early / midgame seems dangerous. I don't know what I would recommend over it, however, I never was a fan of Into the North.
Looks intresting aside from that slight discrepency. I really like Notorious Throng as a two-three of in Bu Rogue decks as a finisher, and it looks like it is even better suited in a deck like this.
Do you guys sometimes deliberately include some weaker cards for blue and (I presume) black, to make it more balanced out?
No. The general difference in power levels between the colors is diminished when every single card in the Cube is good. Weakening Blue and Black would be pointless, and encourage more people to draft White / Green / Red Aggro.
Have you guys ever had a chance to draft your Cubes and then play Emporer? It seems interesting, and my play group wants to give it a try. Can anyone enlighten me on how we should draft it, or give me feedback on the varying amounts of success that you have had?
I plan on having predetermined teams and predetermined emporers, seated like this:
Team Member A, Emporer B, Team Member A, Team Member B, Emporer A, Team Member B
That way, Team A would always pass to Team B, and vive-versa, and the Emporers would sit across from each other.
Should communication between the team members be allowed during drafting? Should teams be predetermined? Should Emporers be predetermined?
I'm an agnostic. There is no way for any human to possibly understand what created us, or why.. Especially when they have no proof other than a book written by hundreds of different people over the course of time.
I don't hate religion. I respect theists and their beliefs. Although I do not believe what they do, I like to think that they do what they do with the best intentions, which is how I try to live my life as well. The one thing I can't stand in life though, is having to listen to a devout christian preach to me about how non-christians will burn. I'll honestly go ballistic. (Anyone see The Mist? You guys know what I mean)
I hate to be so brief, but I really can't think of anything else to say regarding my beliefs.

Tell me what you think.

The prices are usually very reasonable. Why do you ask?

The Llanowar Dead, Malaren, Scapeshift, and Battletide Alchemist are all very sloppy however.

Interested in any input at all.
