Mar 5, 2016Part of the reason the set will be filled with so many nods to Innistrad, is likely because they stated last time that they barely had enough design space to fill a three set block. I'd say this is an indicator of that being true. Though the flavor is a very nice sight, in my opinion, but I do want to see more uniquely designed cards.Posted in: The Rumor Mill
Mar 4, 2016Well... It's a zombie. I guess it has that going for it. I don't even think I'd say it's great in EDH, since you have to be hellbent to have a very basic 7/7 flyer, and if you're hellbent, it makes the recursion even harder when it dies. It's very non-synergystic with itself. I guess it's a decent Madness enabler if you pitch it into the yard from your library, but even then, that's a pretty steep cost to pair with madness effects.Posted in: The Rumor Mill

Thanks! I'll add it to my list on Page 2.Quote from maddsurgeon79 »This was brought up in the Reddit thread, but Altar of the Brood is another win condition for the infinite ETB triggers... interesting because it keeps the combo in only two colors, which is helpful for deckbuilding, but those two colors are not very good at drawing cards or preventing your opponent from stopping your combo.

Making a lit of to go withs in Standard:
Valor in Akros ETB Team pumps to infinite
Orc Sureshot Infinite ETB: Destroy anything without hexproof.
Flameshadow Conjuring Add (3) to your mana pool for each Ryou have available
Impact Tremors Infinite ETB ping to death
Outpost Siege Same thing
Elemental Bond Draw your deck
Boltwing Marauder subpar way to go +infinite/+0 to a creature
Shadows of the Past Scry until you find something you like.
Swarm of Bloodflies Infinite Counters
Zulaport Cutthroat obvious infinite life drain.
Rot Shambler also goes infinite with counters.
Catacomb Sifter More infinite scrying.
Altar of the Brood Infinite Mill (and much faster than the other methods. Cheaper too, allows you run the combo in bant colors, in a control shell.)
I wonder if they just made a huge oops and didn't know it?
Plus, I mean... they're in the same block, so we'll have this combo all through Innistrad, and through the block after Innistrad.
Of course, this does mean you still need both on the field at the same time, so no matter what you choose, it's a three card combo that needs counterspell protection.

No, he said there would likely be oaths in the future, if they convince other walkers to join. For example, if SOI ends with Sorin joining the oath of gatewatch, there will be a B/W (probably) Oath of Sorin in that set.Quote from Empathogen »Quote from Sunforged »So Maro talked about how we will see more Oath cards in the future as more Planeswalkers join the
SuperfriendsGatewatch. I'm already curious to see some multicolored Oaths and we don't even have the mono cycle complete!
Wait, what? He said there would be more Oaths than the 4 in this set?
(It's probably Liliana though)

As soon as you go to switch power and toughness, and they respond with bolt, you can switch power and toughness alll you like, it'll still be dead, unless you pump it somehow.Posted in: The Rumor Mill

It says "up to" one card for each player, you can choose 0 targets for that player. How's that for politics? As for Quarantine Field.... Doubling Season interaction. Comes into play with double the number of isolation counters, then choose that many permanents to exile.Quote from herbalT »
except for when you want to exile more than one permanent for each opponent, or one particular guy has all the threatening permanents on the table, or you need to deal with a certain permanent or two, but don't want to piss off the rest of the table simply because you have to exile one of their permanents. It's only better than QF up to the point where the number of must-deal-with threats exceeds the number of opponents you are facing.
I wouldn't say that qualifies as putting it to shame. Certainly stronger in the right situation (especially early game), but in no way strictly better or anything. Scaling effects are very powerful in the format.
Speaking of Quarantine Field, and I'm not sure why I am just now thinking of this, but is there really any need for the isolation counter mumbo jumbo? Would it not function exactly the same (and be a bit less wordy) if it simply said "when ~ etb, exile X target nonland permanents..."? Just seems to me like the counter bit is completely unnecessary. Flavor, I guess?
