I'm looking at an Abzan list with varolz and voice of resurgence. Kitchen finks seems solid as well but maybe just gums up the 3 slot with lingering souls being there. What are thoughts on running mana dorks? Or even some walkers like either of the bw sorins?
Is anyone playing mishra anymore? I have followed this thread for a while and finally decided to build a list. I always liked mishra and was wondering if anyone is having success with him?
In the lingering souls builds, I have a couple cute, but possibly awesome, ideas. First is darksteel axe. It is a trinket that serves to be aggressive with souls and has the bonus of being a sweet target for tezzeret. Second is dead-iron sledge. This gives us a very solid defensive game with lingering souls that can be tutored off mage. Might be cute, but it does kill goyfs pretty well. Last, and this is a more serious suggestion, is to run dispeller's capsule. This is a sweet tutor target when needed, and you really only need one sb slot for it. Could be solid against twin and some other random matchups where disenchanted is good.
Pretty sure they won't unban top either. It has the awesome ability of making games last forever. Isn't that part of the reason for second sunrise being banned to stop eggs? That said, I have also heard rumors of a new tezzeret or a reprint. We could use some fun new artifacts if that becomes a small theme. Maybe even a new trinket hate!
I love baleful strix. I even used to play that card in EDH. If it were to get printed again for use in modern, there would be no better card for this deck. Strix is just a pure 2 for 1 and just crushes creature decks and rock decks. Not to mention gives us some more finishing power and a sweet target for tezzeret -1. I have been considering building this deck for a while now and strix would really push me to playing it.
Right, don't get me wrong I understand that just fine. I was just suggesting the charm can be versatile enough to help our game plan while still killing bobs and dorks when it works. Just something to consider although it might just be another non-artifact spell that's just too hard to fit.
So I've been reading through this forum, and still haven't really finished, but the deck is very centered around discard and disruption, with very little removal. I have noticed a lot of comments about bad affinity matchups and the need to kill Bob's out of Rock decks. Has anyone mentioned or considered maybe a 1 or 2 of funeral charm? It hits their hand (not all that effectively, but at instant speed), it kills dorks, bob's, snapcasters, and affinity guys, and it can be used with urborg to get through from big hits with 5/5s if there is no bridge which I'm sure could come up every now and then. Might be worth a try anyways.
