A guy locally here plays a Jund whip deck. It seems fine enough until he Crater's Claws you for 10+. It's a finisher no one seems to expect, especially when spending time dealing with Doomwakes and Hornet Queens and Stormbreath. You definitely make plenty of mana to make it worth while, especially with the Ferocious trigger.

How come the current 1 mana cantrips arent used in the jeskai tokens deck? Like dragon mantle and defiant strike. Are the effects they offer besides the draw a card not useful enough?

I don't know about others, but I prefer the indirect boost of Prowess and Ascendancy with burn spells instead of combat spells. If all is well, I'm already drawing tons of cards anyway, but it's something to consider for when I don't have Ascendancy in play...

Seeker will be immediately replaced by Soulfire Grand Master once released. Lifelink off spells that don't require it to attack. But if it does attack, it has lifelink unconditionally. Same CMC same starting P/T. Seeker has a tough time justifying itself after Fate Reforged.

Your clearly don't know what you talking about...seeker WON'T be replaced by soulfire...the ability to attack trought a Sylvan or a Kruphix is HUGE at the moment...they'll play together...but neither one will replace the other...

Different deck types I suppose. I play a heavy burn-centric tokens deck (~40 points burn damage available) and while seeker is nice, he is often killed before even able to attack. With Soulfire, my burns gain immediate life and can still gain life on the stack if cast in response to removal. I have no intentions of actually attacking with Soulfire... that's what Monastery Mentor and Goblin Rabblemaster are for. Smile

Been playtesting this card in several different white builds. It is ridiculous. The monk tokens get out of hand very quickly. I think he'll be format-defining.

Totally agree. There are some matchups that will be extremely difficult (I play tokens now and ran into 2 matches last night with 4x Drown in Sorrow and 4x Bile Blight in addition to plenty of Hero's Downfall. But if those cards aren't drawn and played immediately, Mentor goes completely out of control; especially in a burn/cruise kind of deck or U/W Heroic.

Hmm Ugin or pay $50 for a custom mat + shipping ...ergh the shipping kills. I was hoping for the ledgendary dragons... I am not sure I like the not so subtle referencing to an angel with ugins feathered wings... doesn't seem dragon enough, I wasn't really paying attention to it until now when the look of the art really matters. Maybe I'll wait one more set in hope of a good dragon one.

Buying a binder might be a good idea since the one I am using is from when I collected pokemon cards when I was 8 (18 years ago) and its falling apart, I do like the the way the red colour and the cooler colour on the otherside makes for a nice constrast.

Don't know where you're getting your playmats, but at InkedPlaymats.com you can get a custom mat for 24.99. Shipping adds less than 7 bucks. So 31 and change for a custom mat...

Amazing, never knew this place existed. How good does the quality on the original image need to be? (i.e. can I save off of Wizards)

Quality on the printing is very good, at least on par with Ultra Pro. They are slightly thinner than the UltraPro mats. There are a couple of local people here that have them and love them. If I didn't already have a sweet alt art Liliana one, I'd be all over a custom order from them.

They scuff and scratch easily with normal use, and aren't exactly the most friendly when loading and unloading cards, but the current boxes are surprisingly strong and hold cards in very well. It's only really noticeable where my thumb holds the box to get open, and a little bit on the back.

well this friday there will be PR pass tourneys. i'm sticking with my jeskai tempo deck. i get confused piloting tokens (triggers and such) and it seems only good if ascendancy is out (but it's really good when it is!).

hopefully, i am more experienced and wiser this time.

I use 6 sided dice to keep track of Ascendancy and Prowess triggers; usually one on Ascendancy itself and one on each Prowess creature. Makes a world of difference in figuring out combat damage and helps keep sequencing in order. When the turn is over, just move them back to the side/box/bag for next turn.

As a Jeskai Tokens player at the moment, the only way I "protect my guys" is with either game 2/3 Negate or by shrugging and just making more dudes and hope to draw burn spells. There's not enough benefit of running single creature protection when I could be running more burn instead. Especially now that there's a 1 CMC burn in Wild Slash, I'm even less inclined to spend the slots protecting one dude. Maybe someone knows better than I, but my guys are dispensable and replaceable most of the time.

Wild Slash is definitely the star here for me. As a Jeskai Tokens player with Monastery Mentor and Soulfire Grand Master on my mind, nothing makes me happier than a 1 mana burn spell. Ferocious or not, I'll take a Standard Shock any day in that deck.

Considering like 50-70% of the meta are running some form of green-based midrange, which generally stabilize and crush decks like this on a regular basis, I'm happy to see more strength coming in. Plus Tokens isn't exactly easy to play. It's not like we just ramp mana and drop bomb value card after bomb value card while sitting behind hexproof 0/3s and life-gaining, card advantage 2/4s. Not that I'm biased or anything! :p I just don't like green midrange decks.

If a 2 Mana Creature MUST be removed, if opponent doesnt want to be dominated , then its evidence for being a good card.
Dies to Removal . . . i can also say that Removal dies to threat.

This is exactly why I hate this card. Jeskai Tokens and Jeskai Burn are already highly competitive decks. This has to be killed the turn after it is played, or your opponent is going to be dominated. If this hits the board and stays, on turn 4, after plopping down either Hordling Outburst or Goblin Rabblemaster turn 3, you can cast a Lightning Helixed Stoke the Flames with Buyback once a turn. It goes insane with Jeskai Ascendency. It's going to be the most format-defining card since Voice of Resurgence, except this is more easily castable. It could warp the format even further against hard aggro than Azban Midrange already has. I hate when Wizards does blatant cash grabs in the mythic slot like this.

As a Jeskai Tokens player who has seen plenty of Elvish Mystic into Courser of Kruphix into Siege Rhino, or Fleecemane Lion into Anafenza, the Foremost into Sorin, Solemn Visitor or another Rhino, or just good ol' Sylvan Caryatid/Caryatid/Rhino/Rhino, and the ever popular T4 or T5 ramped Hornet Queen, I'm totally OK with Jeskai getting a power boost with some new cards. With SO many ways to kill them (Drown in Sorrow, Bile Blight, Anger of the Gods, End Hostilities, Doomwake Giant, and soon to be Crux of Fate and Silumgar, the Drifting Death), I just can't feel bad getting these cards and playing them in my deck.

Considering his pre order price jumped from 19.99 to 24.99 to 29.99 and rising, I'm pretty sure people know!

Wow, they sure love Jeskai. Another mythic?

Well it's not like green decks need any more help... I for one am happy the other colors are getting some more beef.
