What are the rules regarding handing out of these promos? Since other formats are now sanctioned for FNM do we get them for playing anything or standard only?

I believe it is up to the store itself as to what format to run and how they distribute FNM promos. They can hold formats such as modern as FNM events and hand these out at them. You will need to contact your LGS to see how they plan to handle promos that month but requesting something in advance tends to help.

    Thank you.

Our local store here allocates X amount per FNM. 1 goes to the winner of Standard 1 goes to the winner of Draft, then 2-3 go out to randomly-chosen Standard players. I like that system quite a bit.

I think the card's art perfectly captures the idea of offering a solution to an $8 common by offering a $20+, alt-art, limited edition, promo foil "reprint."

Was someone earlier complaining that this set has proliferate, but no good proliferate targets? Because there are. Bloodthirst, Graft, Wither, and charge counters make it relevant, especially with Tezzeret's Gambit, since it's Phyrexian mana. And there's some nifty equipment in here too, with white creatures that love that sort of thing. Imagine getting a foil Cranial Plating! I'm willing to try drafting this set every two weeks or so, and see what I think of it.

I think the bigger issue is that there are a number of keyword interactions that are horribly underrepresented (or absent entirely) making the draft format extremely limited in effectiveness outside of one or two archetypes. So not only is it a mediocre card list, it's a poor draft list too.

I'm still doing GP Vegas and am very much looking forward to it. Main event be damned, I'm looking forward to all the side events, artists, feature matches, meeting other players, playing a lot of games with lots of people, and oh, that's right, spending a four day weekend in Vegas. Smile Yeah, the set isn't what I'd like it to be, but the GP should still be lots of fun.

My local LGS is giving out free packs to a random table for each round of FNM the first two weeks of MM15 launch. Pretty psyched about that.

I am so thankful I didn't preorder any of this. I feel so sorry for anyone whose about to bust a box - or worse - a case.

Players should seriously demand refunds to GP Vegas.

I'm still going. I want that Clique playmat, I want to meet artists and have stuff signed, and I want to experience a huge magic event (never been to one). Plus I'm going with a group of magic friends from my local shop and we plan to make full use of the strip at night.

    I hadn't checked prices in a while

I see that a lot of the money cards in this set have lost close to half their value (Bob being at 50, Clique at 45, Hierarch at 40, the Eldrazis etc...)

I assume Modern Masters had something to do about that so that's nice!

Meanwhile, Serum Visions jumped to $10 overnight.

I'm still looking forward to GP Vegas and playing with the cards. I hope to get in a couple drafts in addition to the sealed main event. I hope to be able to trade for the UW Tron pieces I need, and get some cool art, sigs and sketches. HYPE.

I was happily surprised at the huge number of side events. Several constructed formats in addition to the draft and sealed sides.

would also be nice if people played mtg as a game and not an investment
Hard to do that when it's so expensive compared to other games. Magic can be on par with some of the more expensive hobbies, such as golf or scuba diving. If you play with expensive cards, you invest or borrow them from someone who does.

Considering the kind of money I've spent on car stuff, photography, and target shooting, this is probably the cheapest hobby I've been into in years. A couple hundred dollars for a deck I can keep using? I would burn through that much ammo in a weekend camping with the guys.

I meant more versatile as in I can snap back discard, kill, and token spells (or counters, if I'm splashing blue and all). But also versatile in that snap can fit in a ton of decks comfortably, so it's a more worthwhile investment.

Either way, if even at mythic, BB's price drops below 20$, I'll probably pick up a couple. 50$ is ridiculous.

So an already-overpriced card, that sees little competitive play, and desperately needed a price drop, just got UPgraded in rarity?

If it's not played often, why does it need a price drop?

Whats your point? Times where competetive play was the only factor influencing the total price of a card are gone. There are more formats, casual demand, collectors, speculators, etc. Little competetive play does not mean not played often or no demand....

There is no justification to put this at rare just to drop its price. If you are playing this in Commander or Cube, $40 isn't that much for a one of.

The card was 15$ or less until unbanned from Modern, at which point it spiked to 85$ and then settled around 50$. That's pretty frustrating for a card that sees little actual play in Modern to have its price so drastically affected specifically because of Modern.

I run BW Tokens myself and have 0 of these because if I'm going to invest that kind of money into the deck, I might as well just splash blue and buy a playset of Snapcaster Mage (which is better and more versatile than Bitterblossom in almost every regard).

Looks like the cheapest eBay pre order is now $250, with most around $255-260USD. Suddenly I don't feel so bad "settling" for 230.

Last year the SDCC Planewalker exclusive sold out on Friday. You have to get in line ridiculous early in order to even get a chance to get one.
It's not nearly as bad as some of the panels. For anything in ballroom 20 or hall H, you better be in line the afternoon before the day you want to be in.

For mtg, I don't have preview night, but a friend of mine does. He should be able to grab me one, and I'll try myself on Thursday.

The entire point of this set is to put more supply into the market as a way to try to allow people to get into the format. I think that looking at this set from a standpoint of gaining cards to fill in your own personal collection is likely the intent behind making this sort of product from wizard's standpoint. Over the course of the last two years I think I have thought about buying into decks like Jund and Abzan several times but the cost to obtain those chase cards has more or less immediately squashed my ability to buy into such a deck. Ideally this sort of product gets the ball moving on some of those wishes as well as putting a more reasonable price tag on some of these cards for a while.

Modern cards are supposed to maintain a more reasonable price tag due to reprinting so I hope wizards lives up to this. I hope that this product will be readily available and I hope that prices do sink on such a product and the cards within it. The point of this product is to 1) have a fun and good draft set and 2) to increase supply of high demand cards to a point that the cost of cards can become a more manageable thing. I hope this set accomplishes wizard's goals (which MM1 did a poor job of).

I have a moderately priced BW Tokens deck and a relatively cheap RW burn but I always wanted to build a Splinter Twin deck. Unfortunately Snapcaster Mage's price isn't going anywhere, but hopefully many of the other big staples being reprinted in MM15 (and U/R fetches in BFZ?) will help me build it under the $800-1000 entry fee...
