We can have about two more entries before we absolutely need a fourth judge, but it is imperative that we have another judge at this time. Here is the link to sign up.

    Paralysis of Awe 1(W/U)(W/U)
    Instant (R)
Until end of turn, all creatures lose all abilities and have base power and toughness 1/1 until end of turn.

The first time, it's required. The second time, no. Do note, however, that the reminder text for embalm spells out exactly what creature types the creature is, so make sure to allow it to be modular in your reminder text.

June 2017 MCC Round One: A Grave Proposal

The second sun is coming, Bolas's return is nigh, and Amonkhet is on the brink of devastation. But, we can't just focus on the present. We also must reflect on the past, the anthologies beforehand. That's exactly what's happening this month. The first two rounds will let you choose between highlighting the Egyptian plane's glory or the past of the Commander series. The Third will put you squarely in the God-Pharoah's realm, and Round 4 will give you a long look at the achievements of Commander.
Main Challenge: Amonkhet: Design a card with Embalm.
Sub 1: The Embalm cost of the card is less then the converted mana cost of the creature.
Sub 2: Your card is not white or blue.
Main Challenge: Commander: Design a card with "Tempting Offer" or "Join Forces"
Sub 1: Your card has a converted mana cost of one.
Sub 2: Your card is not an instant or sorcery.

Main A: Your card must natively have embalm. Allowing the card to give other creatures embalm does not count for this challenge.
Sub A1: The embalm cost is gathered the same way as the converted mana cost. Additional costs and X values do not contribute to this.
Sub A2: Having White or Blue in the color identity is fine, but the card cannot be white or blue itself.
Main C: Tempting Offer is worded as such: Tempting offer — {do something}. Each opponent may {do the same}. For each opponent who does, {do something again}.
Join Forces is worded: Join forces — Starting with you, each player may pay any amount of mana.
Sub C1: Converted mana cost only factors in the mana cost and assumes X is 0. Additional Nonmana costs or X's do not change the converted mana cost.

Note: You will NEED to clarify which challenge you are attempting with your submission or you will be liable for disqualification at the judge's discretion. We do not have time or need to look through your card to decide which challenge you are doing.

    As always please remember

    A reminder to everyone:
In the MCC, putting rarity on cards is mandatory! If you don't put a rarity on your card, expect huge deductions in both Viability AND Quality.
Also, you should format your text cards accordingly to the forum rules (see the "this formatting looks best" spoiler in the linked OP). Again, expect deductions in Quality otherwise.

    Design -
(X/3) Appeal: Do the different player psychographics (Timmy/Johhny/Spike) have a use for the card?
(X/3) Elegance: Is the card easily understandable at a glance? Do all the flavor and mechanics combined as a whole make sense?

    Development -
(X/3) Viability: How well does the card fit into the color wheel? Does it break or bend the rules of the game? Is it the appropriate rarity?
(X/3) Balance: Does the card have a power level appropriate for contemporary constructed/limited environments without breaking them? Does it play well in casual and multiplayer formats? Does it create or fit into a deck/archetype? Does it create an oppressive environment?

    Creativity -
(X/3) Uniqueness: Has a card like this ever been printed before? Does it use new mechanics, ideas, or design space? Does it combine old ideas in a new way? Overall, does it feel “fresh”?
(X/3) Flavor: Does the name seem realistic for a card? Does the flavor text sound professional? Do all the flavor elements synch together to please Vorthos players?

    Polish -
(X/3) Quality: Points deducted for incorrect spelling, grammar, and templating.
(X/2) *Main Challenge: Was the main challenge satisfied? Was it approached in a unique or interesting way? Does the card fit the intent of the challenge?
(X/2) Subchallenges: One point awarded per satisfied subchallenge condition.

    Total: X/25
*An entry with 0 points here is subject to disqualification.

    Good luck all!

First item of business: Judge Sign up for June is here. The first round will be up this afternoon.

Second: You all deserve an apology, and I'm sorry. Here's the short version of why I didn't finish my judging in april,
    • My computer was having a lot of issues which have now been fixed (by getting a new computer.)
    • I had one of my worst depressive episodes to date in late April and early May.
    • Finals Month is hellish, like for many.
Still, it isn't much of an excuse, and I should have still finished my judging then, and I am deeply sorry.

June's MCC will begin today in about 8 hours, and it will have us exploring both Bolas's created plane and the multiverse wide battles of Commander!
