Hadn't seen these listed yet but they should help get the job done.

Sep 26, 2018kanoyugoro posted a message on How to improve Mono-Blue Control decks to against Human decks in Modern?Posted in: Modern
May 21, 2018Combos with Ad nauseam. Cast this first, then cast ad nauseam. Pick up every card except the last 7 in your deck. Lose the game, go back to one, and draw 7 cards. Draw your whole deck for 9 mana, in mono black, at instant speed.Posted in: The Rumor Mill
I love it.
Apr 11, 2018As far as potent discard combos go, most of the following fall under the jank category but here's what I can think of off the top of my head.Posted in: Modern
Spirit of the Labyrinth + Burning Inquiry is basically a symmetrical, modern legal Hymn to Tourach.
Spirit of the Labyrinth also combos with Geier Reach Sanitarium. If your opponent is out of cards in hand, and you active sanitarium on their upkeep, they have to draw and discard and then will not be able to draw for turn.
Eldrazi Displacer + Chittering Rats can keep your opponent locked drawing the same (non-instant) card at their draw step.
Another card everyone forgets about is Rise // Fall for powerful early game discard.
Raven's Crime can get your opponent hellbent very fast if you have a handful of black lands (like if you're playing a Life from the loam deck.
Everyone overlooks that Blackmail can let you pick lands from opponents hands if they offer it.
Stupor is an actual random discard + discard at 3 mana and is modern legal.
Instant speed discard in Midnight Charm and Piracy Charm can rip away the card your opponent draws at the draw step if they have no other cards in hand.
Rotting rats is another often overlooked card that can waste resources very quickly.
Oct 2, 2017I have an idea, what about a bunch of dredgers, One with Nothing, Street Wraith, and Call to the netherworld.Posted in: Modern
So opening hand, cycle any street wraiths you have to dig for dredge cards, cast one with nothing, madnessing call to the netherworlds for 0 to get back street wraiths to dredge a lot on turn 1? Upside: powerful dredge turn 1, downside: fragile and not redundant
Sep 28, 2017Even in one of the more recent stories where have wakes on ixalan, he mentioned he has a different kind of sand on his boots than the sand on the beach he woke up on. So in a sense you could carry some soil/sand/ground/detritus with you if it was small enough and close enough to your body.Posted in: Magic Storyline
Aug 23, 2017There aren't that many cards on the reserve list that are actually expensive. Basically the power 9 + duals + a few select others.Posted in: Magic General
Potential backlash includes lawsuits over loss of value and breaking of US promissory law. So the answer is simple. Do it and take the hit from the suits.
But there's a step to take before that. Crash the value of these cards under the rules currently in place. Don't print functionally identical cards, print strictly better cards. Trilands, a black lotus that taps for 5 mana, ancestral recall that draws 4 cards, etc.
Then once the price of the reserved list cards has dropped by a significant portion, ban the ultra overpowered cards and reprint the duals and such to mitigate the value of the lawsuits.

But agreed, leyline is usually just a speed bump for ad naus, not a silver bullet.

Jun 24, 2017Descent into madness pairs best with Assemble the legion, those two alone provide a hard lock. In Mardu colors, you can also then run other powerful stax cards like Suppression Field, Blood Moon, etcPosted in: Modern
Edit: Ensnaring bridge also fits well, especially since the tokens that survive can swing under it and then you can empty your hand.
Jun 22, 2017I actually think with tron the issue isn't the lands necessarily. There are other virtual win the game combos with similar consistency and speed, but the issue is the diversity and plethora of threats that tron enables that causes people to get mad about it. For example, has anyone ever cast pithing needle, nevermore, or memoricide vs tron? What on earth is the correct choice to name?Posted in: Modern
The diverse threat density combined with consistency makes it difficult for many types of decks to combat, and it leads to some feelsbad moments.
I like tron, I don't think it's unhealthy for the meta. I would like more good answers to it, but that's what I want in modern anyway is better answers to a lot of things.
