I talked to my friends about Cardfight!! Vanguard and one of my friends agreed to play to learn the basics If I get a couple Starter decks. Some of my other friends who play [COLOR=blue]World of Warcraft TCG and WWE Raw Deal have heard about CFV but weren't that highly interested in the game for some odd reason. I told them the game was like a mix between WoW, Pokemon, and Naruto but they were like meh...
They have that mindset that CFV is going to fail in the U.S. like Duel Masters and Battle Spirits did here in the U.S. because of how bad the Anime/Manga for those series were I suppose. I feel the TCG/CCG Industry needs a new franchise to replace Yu-Gi-Oh! but is CFV really it? The big reason why franchises like Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokemon were successful in the U.S. was because they used the Anime/Manga and other merchandise based on it to market it out to kids to get into the TCG/CCG itself. Also because TV was more dominant than the Internet back then it was easier to expose to boost their franchise's markets.
The Anime/Manga Industry in the U.S. has changed drastically over the course of a decade to the point where instead of being able to watch your Anime mainstream on Television the Internet made it much much harder to appeal to the target audience that the franchise is targeting towards because of how we have more control of what we are exposed of nowadays instead of just going with what's on Television nowadays. In some ways it's kind of a shame but that's how society has changed whether for better or worse I suppose.
Now there's talk about bringing Toonami back on Cartoon Network after Adult Swim aired it as an April Fool's Joke not too long ago. The problem like I said earlier is that nothing is mainstream anymore cause of how the Internet has changed the way we live our lives especially with social media as well too. Even If CN brought Toonami back, people would still try to watch their Japanese Subs online cause they are usually better than the English Dub. The Internet has made it more difficult to mainstream an Anime/Manga franchise like CFV that deserves to surpass Yu-Gi-Oh! but sadly I just don't see that happening If at all anytime soon.
Under the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA), if a cyber threat is even suspected, companies we use to access the Internet will have the right to collect information on our activities, share that with the government, refuse to notify us that we are being watched and then use a blanket immunity clause to protect themselves from being sued for violation of privacy or any other illegal action. It's a crazy destruction of the privacy we all rely on in our everyday emails, Skype chats, web searches and more.
But we know that the US Congress is afraid of the world's response. This is the third time they have tried to rebrand their attempt to attack our Internet freedom and push it through under the radar, each time changing the law's name and hoping citizens would be asleep at the wheel. Already, Internet rights groups like the Electronic Frontier Foundation have condemned the bill for its interference with basic privacy rights -- now it's time for us to speak out.
Well at the rate Magic is going now it still has ALOT of obstacles ahead of itself in terms of one particular game genre which I'll get into here shortly, while I worry that the game might go completely digital in the near future I personally feel that Magic should be played the way Richard Garfield designed it as back in 1993, as a physical card game. Making it digital just gets rid of the physical interactions and experience between players and ruins not just the fun factor of the game itself but also the ideal of what the genre it created represents. We are going too far in technological advancements and we need to slow down to a pace where everyone is comfortable with.
As for the biggest game genre that poses the biggest threat to Magic and the TCG/CCG Industry itself right now, it's MMORPG's. Admit it, you've been spending countless hours playing MMORPG's like World of Warcraft online nonstop completely disregarding getting out of your house to play Magic or any other TCG/CCG for that matter to physically interact with your friends. Yeah the Great Recession has taken a huge toll on alot of players and their disposable incomes but I say don't let that stop you from enjoying from you've been enjoying for years. As for another thing I see with Magic's future that has been troubling for several people...
It's power creep, for a TCG like Magic it's no wonder that nearly 20 years worth of expansions would cause such a huge amount of it when it seems like just a short amount of time. Then of course there's the issue of how the Reserved List has been holding back on the games' Eternal Formats for quite some time now with EDH/Commander being the best Eternal Format in Magic right now especially Competitively. I feel that EDH/Commander has fixed the games' power creep to some extent but it's still there and it makes for alot of decks based on various unbalanced card synergies to be easily abused and makes for games to be unfun for them. I do see a bright future for Commander in Magic but only If they step up on certain cards hurting the format by banning them.
True however cards like Replenish, Retether, and Open the Vaults gets my Enchantments back into play from my Graveyard much easier and it's also not even 1 target it's multiple depending on how many I have in my Graveyard.
At least that's how Zur Voltron works anyway, with Stax it's probably a different strategy. Oh and If they start attacking you with stuff Peace Talks is good against them, as is Orim's Chant and Silence. Ertai, the Corrupted can help you counter stuff by sacking Enchantments and you can get them back with Hanna, Ship's Navigator.
Yeah but what would you suggest I take out for them? I know they all turn off Ghave's abilities however my biggest problem is when Ghave gets out stuff like Grave Pact, Martyr's Bond, and Aura Shards, and Nullmage Shepherd to straight up blow up my side of the board.
It's even harder when he gets out Privileged Position, Asceticism, or Greater Auramancy to protect most of his permanents on his side of the board as well. I don't want this deck to stray too far from it's principal strategy which is slapping loads of Aura's on Uril and swinging for game.
Quote from IceBear »
Just gonna recommend Flickerform. It allows Uril to blink with all of his auras attached, and then come back with them still attached. It's pretty insane, and allows him to dodge wrath spells like a champ, as well as things like Austere Command which destroys all enchantments.
I tried Flickerform, the problem I have with it is paying the extra mana to get it's effect which is sort of the same problem I might have with Wurmweaver Coil. It's a nice idea but unfortunately it doesn't work as well as I hoped it would. My goal is to attach low cost Aura's on Uril, try to get Double Strike going, and swing for game ASAP.
Also If they get rid of my Aura's I can get them back later unless they exile my Graveyard with Tormod's Crypt or Relic of Progenitus. Grafdigger's Cage could be a problem cause that shuts down Graveyard shenanigans from Reveillark and Sun Titan to get Creatures back onto the battlefield. I'm kinda surprised nobody runs Grafdigger's Cage in Commander.
Deck strategy is this, get Uril out with a load of Enchantment Auras onto him to swing for 21 General damage. This deck is also known as "Aura Voltron" or the "Mega Man" strategy so to speak. The deck that gives me the biggest problems in Commander is Ghave, Guru of Spores and If there's anyway to make this deck be able to get around that it'd be great.
I also threw in stuff to get around Blue Generals, I used to run Enduring Ideal as a wincon with Uril, the Miststalker to fetch for Eldrazi Conscription and Mythic Proportions but I was like meh too risky. I have Reveillark over Sun Titan in the deck cause I can get back 2 creatures instead of just one, plus I don't really go up against any Graveyard hate in my metagame right now so yeah.
Any other help, advice, and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Is the EX thing the kind where you need to put the Mewtwo EX on top of another Mewtwo, or how does that work?
No the new EX's work just like the old ones did, you play them as normal and when they are Knocked Out your Opponent takes 2 prizes from it. Think of EX's like Regular Pokemon with Expert Belt attached but with higher HP.
Quote from Highroller »
Wow, that's really dumb. Especially since overpowered basics was always the problem with Pokemon. The game's gimmick is the evolution of creatures, but there was never a point of running any but a reserve number of evolutions because the rewards were never high enough. That seems to have gone out the window. Oh well.
Well most of the good Basics in the game right now are Legendary Pokemon that don't evolve. If they expanded the new EX's with Stage 1's and Stage 2's instead of just Legendary Pokemon then I think it would be a breath of fresh air for the game.
They errated Rare Candy to where you have to wait a turn to evolve it, they've been making less competitive Stage 2 Pokemon while they still have some competitive Stage 1 Pokemon in the current format like Yanmega, Donphan, Eelektrik, and several others.
As much as I hate to admit this, with the amount of Anti-American Militias on the rise since 2008 especially members of the Sovereign Citizens Group the U.S. might get themselves into another Civil War with the likes nobody has seen for over 150 years.
The nasty outcome of it may result in Martial Law being inacted and throwing innocent American civilians in concentration camps similiar to the Holocaust back in WWII. It's bad enough that the U.S. might end up going to war with Iran and another Civil War in America is definitely not in the country's interest.
I'm not saying another Civil War is going to happen and the South rises again, but with the state of things in politics and the world right now I can't rule out the possibility of it happening but If it does it would lead to a complete shutdown of modern day society.
Yeah the current Modified format for the Pokemon TCG while it's very diverse right now with alot of decks to play, it's basically become you run 2-3 Mewtwo EX in every deck or play Durant. Guess how much the new Mewtwo EX is going for a piece? $70 for the Non-FA and $100 for the FA, that is about as expensive as a Tarmogoyf in Magic.
What makes the new Mewtwo EX such a powerhouse is that it's a 170 HP Basic with it's attack X-Ball costing 2 Colorless that does 20 damage times the number of energies attached to Mewtwo EX and the Defending Pokemon. That's too good not to pass up in most decks nowadays. Especially when there's 2 decks that it utilizes well with in Energy Acceleration with EelZone/ZekEel and Emboar variants.
As for Durant, it's the cheapest deck to build yet it requires no skill to play at all cause it's a Basic that mills your Opponent's deck for each Durant you have in play and with the amount of search and draw in the game it shouldn't be too hard to win the game without drawing a single prize card. There is a counter to Durant expected to be released next set but until then it will keeping dominating the format due to how difficult it can be to draw 6 prizes before you deck out.
As juggalo5698 mentioned earlier, the power creep of the Basics in the game has gotten out of hand lately. We now have Basic Pokemon that can do 120 damage for 3 attack cost with 120+ HP or higher especially with the new EX Pokemon which is a throwback of the EX era of Pokemon where If an EX Pokemon is Knocked Out your Opponent draws 2 prize cards. If that wasn't bad enough we now have a meta where Stage 2's don't have much of an impact in the meta anymore aside from Magnezone which can KO an EX for 4 energy doing 200 damage for 2 prizes.
second sunrise may be what you are looking for, if he is sacking a lot of tokens, then he wont be getting them back.
depending on your build, enduring renewal can totally catch people off guard.
cauldron of souls would be my favorite method of retaining your creatures.
It doesn't matter If he gets his tokens back as long as he forces me to sacrifice my General every turn with Grave Pact on the battlefield thus increasing it's casting cost by 2 extra mana to send it from the Command Zone to the battlefield.
The way my build with Uril EDH works is cast him out on Turn 5 or 6 and try to slap as many Enchantments on him as possible to win the game before I'm forced to sacrifice my General or If it gets countered by a Blue General.
Regeneration doesn't work either to get around it cause you can only regenerate a creature If it died from any sort of "damage", If the creature died from being forced to get sacrificed via Diabolic Edict for example then you cannot regenerate it period. That is part of what makes Ghave a broken EDH deck.
The best way to shutdown Ghave in EDH is by running a Blue General and by running loads and loads of hard counterspells or just run Zur the Enchanter and win on Turn 4 or 5 possibly. If you're expecting to mana ramp into your General like mid game most decks usually have a response to it.
But here's the thing though, most of the stuff that Ghave EDH runs like Grave Pact and Martyr's Bond is Global meaning stuff like Witchbane Orb or Ivory Mask won't protect you from it. What can Uril EDH really do against Ghave? Hope to swing before you're forced to sack your General from Grave Pact. -___-
It turns out I need to run mass Enchantment removal like Paraselene, Tranquility, Austere Command, that sort of thing. Here's how Ghave EDH can win and this happened to me so bad that he bought me a drink cause he felt sorry for me which I don't blame him for:
Ever got pwned by Mindslaver or Sen Triplets? It was way worse than that. I couldn't even concede or scoop unless he wanted to quit the game due to Abyssal Persecutor it was THAT evil. So now you see my problem dealing with Ghave oh and Zur is just as annoying as well. Zurlock basically goes like this:
They have that mindset that CFV is going to fail in the U.S. like Duel Masters and Battle Spirits did here in the U.S. because of how bad the Anime/Manga for those series were I suppose. On a different forum I was surfing through, it turns out that Arizona is also trying to pass an Internet Censorship law as well. More details below:

Whether or not If the Arizona bill is as dangerous as the CISPA bill that Congress is trying to pass through is up for debate I suppose.

Tutor for Solitary Confinement.
Next turn tutor for Necropotence, now you have infinite draw and with Scroll Rack you control what you draw with it.
Draw into and play Reliquary Tower and Venser's Journal so you have no hand size and life cap. Slap Empyrial Armor and Steel of the Godhead onto Zur to swing for 21+ General damage, GG.
First up I'd recommend running Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite with Natural Affinity for pseudo Land Destruction for 1 wincon. Then for a 2nd wincon run Abyssal Persecutor with Identity Crisis and Mindcrank. For a 3rd wincon, maybe Bitter Ordeal for each time you've sacrificed creatures with Ghave?
You can also get infinite colorless mana with Ashnod's Altar and Juniper Order Ranger with Ghave. You also have another infinite mana engine with Phyrexian Altar and Young Wolf for counter shenanigans. One thing I noticed is you lack Permanent protection with Privileged Position, Asceticism, and Sterling Grove.
Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger would also be great in this deck. Lock their lands down while you have board advantage. As for more Graveyard hate run Grafdigger's Cage to shutdown Reveillark and Sun Titan, better yet Tormod's Crypt or even Relic of Progenitus. I'd prefer the Crypt so that you can recur stuff yourself.
If you want to you can run alot of the Black Transmute cards from Ravnica to help you get to your key cards faster. Demonic Tutor and Diabolic Tutor would be great in here as well. Chord of Calling would be great in here as well as Eladamri's Call and Worldly Tutor.
As for Planeswalkers, Liliana of the Veil works so good with Grave Pact and Martyr's Bond If you can afford to get her. Nullmage Shepherd helps get rid of Artifacts and Enchantments If you aren't getting Aura Shards out yet, and Savra, Queen of the Golgari wouldn't be bad for lifegain I suppose.
