Hey, I am pretty new to magic, I've only been playing for a year. I mainly play standard but I am looking at getting my first modern deck. Since I am new, my collection is very small. So, I'm basically starting from the ground up. I do plan to build this deck over the next few months so, my budget is around $500-$800.
My favourite colors to play are Blue, Black and colorless.
I prefer to play control style decks and midrange decks. However, combo decks seem really interesting to me.
The level I would be playing at is FNM, casual and small tournaments, but I would like to work my way up to larger tournaments.
I have been digesting a lot of content for the modern format and already have a couple decks I am interested in. The main one I am drawn to is UB Tezzeret Control. I think this deck is extremely interesting. It has both my favourite colors and it has a pretty badass win con. But it is hard to find much information on this deck, which makes me question it's viability. 8 rack is another deck I like but I hear bad things about it. Also, my best friend, who I mainly play with causally, play burn. That seems almost unbeatable with their top deck potential. UR storm is also a deck I really like, but I hear it is very difficult to play, which isn't a problem. I love a challenge. But I feel it crumbles to a lot of the meta I see (grixis control, twin, jund). The last deck I am interested in is Merfolk. I typically don't like to play creatures heavy decks, but I love blue and black creatures. This deck only has blue ones but they have all the things I love about blue spells along with a body. I would list a black creature deck I am interested in, but their aren't any I've seen. I really like black creatures like packrat and bloodghast. But I haven't seen a deck use them, successfully.
So, if any of you have any decks similar to the ones above, or have information on a list I could use, please let me know. Thank you in advance for your help.
