I've been playing a number of styles of zoo online, but am thinking I want to gravitate towards the Gruul rush side.

I want to keep the basic removal/pump package of

    4 Lightning Bolt
    4 Lightning Helix
    4 Boros Charm
    4 Path to Exile
    4 Ghor-Clan Rampager

I dont want to, or essentially wont, be shelling out for Goyf, its just not something I can justify price wise to my wife.

Would I be better of running Domri in a Gruul Rush approach? If so, what would be the ideal creature set? With Domri, I keep looking at his -2, and thinking I need something with some bite to function as removal, or should I drop him all together?

Hoping for just 1 or 2 cards to be pushed into 'great' territory with that mechanic for sure.

Yeah, I agree. As this thread started to kick up more discussion bridge went up.

I think it will do well. I've been playing a number of variations on the zoo theme online the last few days, and the one I'm struggling most against is 8rack actually. I'm just not sure what to do mainboard against that deck.

EDIT: You could still get land screwed, but with 4 fetch's (I only have one, but my budget was far lower than $100 :D) you should be ok, but will be taking a lot of double damage potentially.

EDIT x 2: I'm actually thinking of putting a number of Loxodon Smiter into my list, replacing the disenchant/artifact hate that they will just discard anyway.

Silly question, not sure if this is the right place, but how do I choose to discard to activate a bloodrush? I right click the card, but no option is showing up.

EDIT: I was using the mechanic wrong, you need to execute it once already committed.

I'm building up to Zoo both Online and Paper, but am wondering, if leaning towards a bit of burn is discouraged? I know we typically will run Lightning Bolt and Path to Exile, but things like Searing Blaze, and Flame Slash see play in some other decks for spot removal and can keep the pressure up while we keep swinging. I've played red for so long, perhaps its just hard to let go...

Great thanks, seems I was already somewhat on the right track but had looked at the fastlands instead of the checklands. Smile

Hello! I am trying to get back into the game after an eternity out of it, and Modern is where I am trying to land. I am looking to build what I think is some where between an aggressive jund deck, and perhaps gruul zoo, less grindy than the proven jund variant, but not as low on the CMC as Zoo.

The issue is, I am not seeing any examples of a jund budget manabase, and while I acknowledge the importance of fetches, they arent within the budget.

Looking to keep this within the realm of an additional $100 or so.

Having, 4 Stomping Ground, Blood Crypt, Copperline Gorge, Overgrown Tomb, Blackcleave Cliffs, Mana Confluence on the land side, with Ghor-Clan Rampager, Fanatic of Xenagos, Lightning Bolt, Rift Bolt, Hellspark Elemental, Inquisition of Kozilek, Raven's Crime, Cry of Contritions, on the spell side with some other creatures such as Slitherhead, Jund Hackblade, Lotleth Troll.

Ideally I am looking at running a lot of creatures, with supplemental spell support, and a manabase that supports enough sideboard options to remain flexible while not needing the fetches.

Possible, or a lost cause and I just need to save up for fetches?

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum (deck building?)

Red is my favorite conceptually, and with support from UBG, is enjoyable and variable enough despite the very narrow approach seen in a lot of its mechanics.

White's my least favorite. I dont like the white weenie archetype, nor the grind out of massive amounts of life gain.
