People who think it's good in control are deluded; control decks are the ones with the least removal targets so Jund will be practically bursting out of their pants to kill it.
Your understanding of the rules is incorrect. Baloth does not go to the graveyard, did you read the card?
Turbofog/Mill is too slow; it's reasonable against control decks but Turbofog/Mill always is. It doesn't really gain anything; if you're playing it maindeck then it's a very very narrow card. If you're playing it in the sideboard then you're boarding it in against only 4 - 8 cards in their whole deck, which is not very effective.
If it had Shroud it'd be very playable I think. This is probably the best and coolest of the "Big Fat Blue Creatures", but I don't think it's constructed playable though.
I can imagine Shade holding the fort in the early game, and then Nirkana Revenant will give it a huge boost of mana in the mid-to-late game. Also, mono-black decks can take advantage of Crypt of Agadeem.
When your competitive deck involves Nirkana Revenant and Crypt of Agadeem, we've got problems.
My friend (who is an international student from China) has never been wrong in determining which packs have foils, and I've seen him rub 100+ packs. He says that in China, almost everyone knows how to do it, so you should never buy loose packs, only sealed boxes, because otherwise you'll never get foils
I don't think a defender deck will be viable. While some of the cards, like Wall of Omens, and maybe Overgrown Battlements, are quite good, a deck with more than 10 walls is just not doable.
You're a total dog to Control. Beating UW Control, or any form of control that plays Wraths, is going to be extremely difficult. You lose so much value in your defenders because their high toughnesses are wasted.
Aggro and evasive creatures are very strong right now as well. While you obviously beat some red cards, like Hellspark Elemental or Goblin Guide, the red decks will adapt with Kargan Dragonlord, since Wall of Omens is going to see huge play anyways. Cards like Putrid Leech will necessitate playing Wrath effects, and then you might as well just cut most of the walls and play regular control.
Hydra is pretty bad in terms of T2 playability. Fun card sure but not good.
An 8/8 Trample these days is what, 6 mana? For 6 mana it'd be better to just get Broodmate Dragon, so we'll say 6 mana. That means to get a FAIR cost for the Hydra, you need 2 creatures on the field.
That's completely not good for a 'good creature'. People might say 'ZOMG 4 MANA FOR AN 8/8 TRAMPLE IF I HAVE 4 CREATURES'. Fine on the multiplayer table, but terrible in Standard. If I have 4+ green creatures on the field I've either been an idiot and overextended or I'm playing Combo Elves. Either way the Hydra is not needed.
