It's not a bad list to start, I definitely want Necrogen Mists in there, at least 2-3 and maybe add a Mutavault or Swamp. Creatures and Smallpox don't work together unless it's lingering souls or something like that, so I'd drop the Visitors.

I don't disagree that Murderous Cut isn't good because I like it and haves used it with success, great card. I do disagree with 8 racks always being enough. There's a saying that the more abrupt decay's you face the less likely you are to win, and the math is that getting a Rack by turn 5, on the draw, is 85%. Wow 15% that you don't have a win condition in site when you want it, that hopefully doesn't get killed. Hey maybe Torment of Scarabs is good in our deck that's be cool. In mono black I like Gurmag and in a deck with fetches I like Tombstalker, gotta be able to cast it when you need it.

Why not drop a Swamp for a Gurmag Angler? One more win condition is nice and making smooth use of tbe graveyard resource. And with all of these delve creatures running around and your sweet painless manabase why not drop a funeral Charm and a fatal push for two Dismember? It's two more things your Mutavault can cast which is always great.

    Good list and board.

Good question. For me it depends on if you're playing Smallpox which can be a great card btw, just remember to take the draw if you think you can afford it. So if you're not playing Smallpox go for 22 or so lands and def 4 Thoughtseize (always go 4 ravens crime) but if you're playing 4 Smallpox then you can afford to cut a Thoughtseize because on the draw you need more slots for removal. Also if you're going the Pox rout play four, otherwise how would you know if you want to play or draw?

    Hope this helps

True, and collective brutality can ruin their day if you hit a mana dork and a CC or the likes.

Qustion for you guys, in light of Bontu's Last Reckoning what removal and sweeper package will you be running MB and SB? (I feel like I still want a Flaying Tendrills or two in the side)

Just because a deck has a good matchup against a good deck doesn't mean "It's the best!!" Lol magic is matchup based bra

If you have a good matchup against a deck that's holding such a large share of the metagame as Death's Shadow, then you are probably one of the best decks in the format. 8Rack has some very nice matchups between a lot of the 10 most played decks, but also some really poor ones. Shadow is not just "a good deck", it's currently "the best deck". World of difference there.

Also, what do matchups have to do with form-fitting undergarments designed to support a woman's breasts? I can't figure this out for the life of me.

Haha tricks of life I guess, I also think 8-Rack is a pretty good deck right now and well situated, and then there are some pretty bad matchups too where I find myself facing a lot like Tron and Collected Company stuff

Esperino> Fortunately for us we already have a really good matchup against Death's Shadow with monoblack, so I see absolutely no reason at all to go white to play Lingering Souls instead of keeping it monoblack and painless as BrandonJames16 stated.

Yeah, white has some really good SB-options we don't get by playing monoblack, but it also comes at a steep price. It's just ignorant to keep ignoring that fact.

SirFrancois> Yeah, but the problem with Bloodghast is that he wants us to play lands, otherwise he'll just stay in the graveyard... And in our deck we rarely wanna go more than 3 lands in play, the rest is kept as a fuel for Raven's Crime to keep our opponent in Hellbent-mode, so that our wincons do what they are meant to be doing.

What?! If 8Rack is so good against Death's Shadow decks, that would mean it's one of the best decks in the format and people should be winning Shadow-infested events left and right with it. We must let everybody know!

I've tried each splash except green, and I've gone back to mono black. The mana base is so good and basically blood moon proof.

My thinking is similar to yours yellow mountain in the way that I do think you pretty much need to focus on the racks if you're going to play them. I personally recommend no more than three cards that deviate from the linearity of the Rack approach MD and personally just play one Angler/ wincon. SB can be a different story especially if you go transformative.

I know other people have had success with more deviation, these are just my experiences.

Yeah I've gotta say that my version of Gobots (which is very close to Midn8walker's list) is very good and has nice sideboard options in Gruul. My friend plays Skred Red with 4 MB Anger's and I'll still win 2/3'sof the time. Ever since I got completely and easily locked out of mono red goblins by Prison Control and outpaced by Eldrazi I've put the traditional lists down.

I also have this brew list for what I call Death Whack that I mean to try out but life has been too busy these days for any play thus far. Any honest feedback is always appreciated, the list is still rough.

    Death Whack

    4 x Death's Shadow
    4 x Legion Loyalist
    4 x Goblin Guide
    2 x Memnite
    2 x Signal Pest
    3 x Kird Ape

    4 x Goblin Bushwhacker
    4 x Reckless Bushwhacker

    4 x Thoughtseize
    2 x Dismember
    4 x Street Wraith
    1 x Atarka'sCommand
    3 x Mutagenic Growth
    1 x Lightning Bolt

    4 x Blood Crypt
    2 x Stomping Ground
    4 x Bloodstained Mire
    4 x Wooded Foothills
    1 x Polluted Delta
    2 x Mountain
    1 x Swamp

No man, paying four means 6 life and two nonland permanents or cards. This card has many weaknesses, including the fact that with it in hand you may not even get to the late game because a two mana Wrench Mind would have been better, and 23-24 land with Smallpox means you're going to not even hit four mana a lot, and in this card's case you need to hit 5

In terms of Torment of hailfire I feel like cards that cost that much mana and give your opponent the options are usually fairly bad cards in most format's..even in Legacy with dark ritual's I feel like giving your opponent the out's is bad

I must say it looks exciting. I don't know how powerful it ends up, but feels like a interesting deck to sleeve. Not a big fan of Kird Ape but I get why it's included. Also not a fan of Become Immense as it can be a 2-for-1 but with mainboard discard you can clear the way. I look forward to any reports Smile

    edit: what about mutagenic growth?

Mutagenic Growth seems like a good idea! Can protect a Loyalist or Shadow or board presence or finish the game, perhaps two would go well in here. I hear you on Become Immense, I'm hoping that Thoughtseize may protect me there but there may be too much removal in modern. I always want to make at least one use for delve in any deck..maybe a gurmag or murderous cut?
