Brandon Sanderson, hands down. He has a knack for creating unique and interesting systems of magic.
For as fantastical as the settings of Magic are, the actual magic can sometimes be a little boring. "He waved his hand and made a fireball. But like, a really big one. Then he threw it."
"The new art doesn't have as much character as the old art. The new art all looks the same. The new art is ugly. This isn't even art anymore, it's just illustration."
Pretty sure the first time I heard comments like these was around the release of Urza's Saga? Maybe even Tempest block? People like different things. Usually what they're already used to, as opposed to new stuff.
As far as guild leader balance, we saw something similar in Dragons of Tarkir. 4 clans got mono-colored legendaries, but the last got a 2-color planeswalker.
Nice reprint, but would have liked to see the old art or a tasteful re-work of a contemplative dragon reading a book, rather than just a generic scary dragon.
I have found myself with similar thoughts throughout these spoilers. I don't think cards like Lightning Bolt, Counterspell and Brainstorm have ever received a printing with the modern card frame and their original, iconic art.
These decks should be made to actually be FNM competitive, even if it means packing in cards that are currently valuable on the secondary market.
Wizards has stated time and again that they don't care about the secondary market. They shouldn't care about how much "value" is included in a precon deck.
Depending on when the decks release, new cards can have 3 or 4 months of being $20 before they get reprinted in a Challenger Deck.
As far as Challenger Decks being snapped up by speculators? Just print tons of them. There should be plenty for everyone who wants one.
This set is trying to do too many different things. It wants to be thematic. It wants to provide a good draft environment. It wants to provide high value reprints. It wants to charge $10 per pack. Thos leads to feeling compromised on all fronts.
I was hoping, with this set and Masters 25 being released so close together, that there would be some distinction as to the 'purpose' of each set.
Have Iconic Masters be highly thematic and tribal. Have a fun draft environment. Have it be lower powered so that you can include some older iconic cards. Don't worry about including high-value cards, most of the value will come from quality commons and uncommons. BUT, sell the packs for $2-4 each so that I can play in more drafts, since that's what the set is for.
Then, when Masters 25 rolls around, go the other direction and have $10 packs filled with valuable reprints.
I hope it isn't the real card. The name must be " Arguel's Blood Feast " . " Arguel's Blood Fast " means nothing unless it's a too subtle joke.
Blood fasting seems to be something that vampires do on Ixalan. They starve themselves of blood until they go crazy, as a way to receive visions, maybe?
You guys see what I am seeing in that big vesion of Ixalan's Binding art?
That's the Azorius sigil, isn't it?
What the hell was Azor looking for on Ixalan, and is the 'walking barrier his doing?
That's what I'm seeing as well. It stood out to me that the story made it a point to describe the shape of the sigil (a triangle inscribed in a circle), instead of being more generic and just saying "a glowing magical sigil".

Edit: Beaten to it!
I think the point was more along the lines of: why were they those things, rather than tricksters?

And will Bolas keep his promise to make Vraska the leader of the Golgari?
Will we get the long-anticipated ascension of Niv to planeswalker-dom? And will be be pro-Bolas or very, very anti-Bolas (there can be only one)?
Way to mess up the alliteration, Gorm. Why aren't you a Giant Golem or a Wurm Warrior? Wall... Warrior?

I will second this! I have won some local events with 8 Whack, even managing to beat some of the bigger modern decks like Affinity and Tron.
My proudest moment was beating Tron even after he played turn 3 Karn, turn 4 Ugin.
