They should never have broken the trust the players had in them. If we knew what we know now about the masters sets a few years ago I don't think this game would still be standing. Maybe it would have survived off of some of the hardcore players or something, but there is a difference between doing something to help players and doing something to line ones own pockets at their patrons expense. Yes, it's the duty of a company to make money, but that money also comes from people with expectations on what they are receiving is worth the hours they are trading away.

At this point I'm hoping WoTC is shifting more towards pokemon's model of distribution and keeps things more level across their two main formats.

Exactly, you just can't do that to players.
And I'm not talking about reprints, but about lying to players, low quality print runs, overpriced products e low run supply, failing sets...

I mean, speaking of hardcore players. They "lost" Brian Kibler, one of my all time favorite magic players and one of the most popular ever to Hearthstone, he's now one of the most popular streamers in Hearthstone.

When even the pros and the "pretty faces" of the game abandon you, you're in a pretty bad spot.

RTR was a good phase of the game, some interesting cards were being printed. Not like standard nowadays, totally unbalanced, more bans than ever (non of those bans seeing modern or legacy play). And overall low power among the cards. It's just not fun anymore.

    As for prices...
1200$ is not an attractive price to get into modern.
300$ is not an attractive price to get into standard, for one year, after that you have to drop another 250/300$.

Not to speak that stores are closing everywhere.
Where I live I had 3 LGS 4 years ago, all closed down.
Only the biggest cities still have LGS and even those are turning towards warhammer and such.

Not a good sign at all.

The game has survived far worse than this. The game’s survival and well being is far more pinned to standard sets than anything they do on the reprint front.

It has, but back then it had no competition.
Now it has more competition (and increases as we speak).

Lets just admit, MTG is in a pretty bad place right now.

Thank you wizards. Good value, I might consider playing standard again as I've been absent for over 6 years.
Please don't let the most desired ones stock out or else it'll be commander all over again.

Now let's just hope they do something like this for modern. Even if the decks are 100$ and don't have complete playsets, it would definitely lower the entry barrier.

I mean, wizards does not want 50$ cards right? At least that's what they say.

Yes it is expensive, but in theory, you can sell cards and buy other cards for your new deck quiet easily on MTGO.

I mostly do MTGO, because it simply works with my schedule. If I have time on the weekend I will get together with some friends, but between Work, Wife, Kid, Gym, and other hobbies...its tough outside that 9pm-10pm window to find time.

That's exactly my problem, I either spend 15$ just on gas on traveling to the store and lose about 4h, sleep late that night, or I just don't go.
Lately I haven't gone at all. So really considering buying into MTGO.

I play jeskai shell btw, any advice on building onto that on mtgo? What to get first and so on.

I'll start, I currently only play paper magic, but due to job and most of all living far away from the closest game store (16 miles, so half an hour by car and 1 hour by public transports), I've been playing it less and less.

Currently seriously considering playing MTGO. It's convenient and it works. A con would be recent instability that there is due to Arena.

Long time Magic player here. Haven't been too active thought and am just trying to get some insight on what is the most played Magic. Whether it's paper magic or magic online.

If possible, please share what you like and don't like about each of them.

Affinity seems like a good choice for you. It's surprisingly not that linear and it'll be complex enough for you to enjoy. You probably won't get bored easily as a result. Even if the gameplay revolves around just dumping your hand and trying to go ham, there's a lot of nuances in sequencing cards, playing suboptimal hands, etc.

Tron is definitely bad, any flavour of Tron seems bad for you. The deck is just far too linear for your tastes and you will get bored for sure. Jund is good, it's probably better than tier 2 right now. It's also going to be fairly expensive for you.

In the short term, maybe playing UW is still good. You can just keep practicing the deck and get faster with it. I mean, by all means build another deck, but don't build a suboptimal version of it. You're going to need to spend a ton and you probably can't trade off UW pieces if it means you can't play Modern in the meantime.

Thanks a lot for your help!
I've got my eye on affinity for quiet some time. I'm hopping there are some mox opal and arcbound ravenger reprints. So maybe I could get the cheaper stuff first.
Jund I've always fancied, I do like playing thoughtseizes.
I'm inclined to selling sollonades because they've gone up quiet a bit and might be worth selling right now.

I do have grixis shadow thought, but something tells me it'll take a hit from the recent unbannings, the delve creatures might not be as good.

Sorry but you lost me at the end where you proposed swapping him for snapcaster mage. Snappy is just immense value in this deck.

Anyway, how are peoples resolts post BBE and Jace. Any changes? Has anyone gone to torunaments? What were your results?

Hey, I'm looking for some ideas and it'd be great if someone could help me out.

So I'm trying to find a new deck to play and I've got a few options:
I own all of UW and Jeskai control (apart form search for azcanta).
The problem is, as much as I love control, I tend to go overtime a lot, and it really becomes tiring to play after a few rounds. So I need something faster, even if equally challenging.

The good, UW control pieces are going up in price. So I thought that maybe I could sell the uw pieces and buy into something else.
I do plan on keeping the scalding tarn and snapcaster mage because I can always build UR tempo decks, and grixis shadow decks.
So I'd be selling celestial collonade and probably cryptic command as well.
It has to be a tier 1/2 deck (preferably tier 1), and something that will definitely be relevant for a long time.
Since it's something that I will be playing for a long time, I think it needs to be fun as well as competitive.

So I was thinking something like:
Affinity, Tron, eldrazi tron or jund.
Tron seems like the strongest and most resilient, I don't know how fun it is.
Jund is more like tier 2, but it might get better.
Affinity is competitive and seems fun, but maybe it's too aggro? Might get boring quickly, have no idea.

I own some of jund pieces, but am still missing goyfs, verdant catacombs, Bobs and Liliana of the veil. Collonades could cover for some Bobs or 3 goyfs, but It'd take some time to grab the rest.
But Karns are also expensive so.

Play styles I enjoy are: Twin, tempo decks, jund. Never tried tron but it seems to be very linear.
Eldrazi seems more interactive while powerful too.

Anyway, if anyone could give me their insight, I'd be very much grateful Smile

Anyone playing a blue moon kiki combo deck? I'm trying to come up with a decklist, maybe featuring Jace, might be a bit hard on the manabase thought.

Anyone tried any lists with Jace yesterday and today? Smile How did it go?

Also, does anyone have the discord link for jeskai? I can't find it on the previous pages.

I'm returning to FNM's after a few months off the scene, this is what I'm running:

How does this look? Are the Jace decks already expected to surface? I doubt that many people will have dropped 400$ on them.
If so, should I add Vendilion Clique mainboard to help fight him?

Also, how does the sideboard look like? I feel like I should really buy engineered explosives to fight those wide decks.
