Hey guys, I have been working on building a grixis control deck from what I have lying around, and I wanted to see if any of you had any suggestions for me. Mainly I am having issues with creatures to run in this build, but I will leave a skeleton deck for you guys to look at that I want built around.
Well since I literally just started playing EDH like 4 weeks ago, I can't really give a great opinion on that I have only played Teferi, Temporal Archmage as my commander, but if you were to ask me what commanders I find to have the most potential, I'd go with Arcum Dagsson, Melek, Izzet Paragon, and Bruna, Light of Alabaster
My buddies run a mono green deck (Freyalise precon deck) with minor adjustments, and a Momir Vig deck which combos off to ridiculous places. The guy who plays mono green complains about not having any say in the game, but he's playing freakin' mono green, so he does that to himself. The other guy who plays Momir Vig just hates losing, and when I do get rid of his combo pieces, he usually just rage quits.
I think I just need to find other people to play with or just help the mono green deck out because at least he's fun to play against
My name's Tyler, but I have gone by Tangelos, or Tangey for short, for over 8 years now. I would like to join this clan!
I am not going to use the template, but I will give a brief overview of it. I am the biggest Johnny you will ever meet; I live to deckbuild, combo off in the weirdest ways, and win with swag alone. My favorite color to play is blue, I love birds (especially storm crow), my favorite planeswalker is Teferi,I normally play Standard and EDH, I love my U/R Artifact Rape-train deck, and I started playing MTG during Journey into Nyx (I'm quite new).
I listen to all sorts of music, I love Chicken Alfredo, I sing bass 2 in a choir, play bass guitar, I study math, and I want to be a high school teacher. If you guys have any questions feel free to ask, and I hope everyone has a great holiday!
So I have been dealing with some power issues within my playgroup of roommates that play EDH together. I play a mono blue Teferi deck (I can feel the hate already), and I try to do my best to make my deck as fair as possible so that they can have a fair fight. I only have 2 counter spells for the sake of kindness, and 3 cards that bounce the board (Cyclonic Rift, Whelming Wave, etc..)
I only get complaints that my deck is unfair to play against, and although I love playing it (Consecrated Sphinx + Chasm Skulker = Love), I feel that I may have to build another EDH Deck that is easier for them to handle.
So, should I rebuild this deck to make it easier to fair against, or should I start from scratch?
So I have been working on building 5 in-house decks based off of the new clan's in Khans of Tarkir for my playgroup. One of the most challenging things about this is making every deck balanced. These decks are singleton, noncompetitive decks that are meant to be played in a multiplayer setting. The only bans that we have in house are wrath spells (because they make the room sad).
Each of these decks are meant to be non-competitive, however, I have seen some trends.
The Abzan and Jeskai decks have such strong synergy that they usually just overrun the games. I would eventually like to either tone them down or bring the rest of the other decks up in power.
The Sultai deck is working quite badly at this point, and really needs some help.
So my question to you all is this: how do I make these decks fun, non-competitive, balanced, and easy to play for my group of friends? I appreciate any input!
Here is my list so far. I have play tested this and it is really a coin flip; either you win by turn 5 or you lose with nothing to do. If there are any suggestions to make this deck more consistent, I would love to hear them!
If running Sultai Reanimator, would Ashen Rider or Siege Rhino be considerable when running 4 Sylvan Caryatid? If anyone has tested this, please let me know! I feel that adding Mana Confluence would be a must at this point though..
I'm toying around with either Sidisi Whip or Abzan Reanimator. You're not running any Nyx Weavers or Rescue from the Underworld, so Whip is all you have to bring things back. By design? What's the role of Sidisi in the deck? It just felt better for me to have four Siege Rhinos, works brilliantly with Rescue, especially with an Ashen Rider. Not only does it deal the three damage, you get to exile their Planeswalker/blocker/artifact.
Sidisi is used exactly as a form of self mill to fuel reanimation spells, and also can be reanimated to continue this form of self mill. However, I feel that Taigam's is amazing at setting up draws and dropping cards into the yard, so I see every reason to use it. Commune With the Gods can be to clunky, but Taigam's is exactly what is needed here.
If you see any true weakness from this card choice feel free to let me know, but through playtesting it is exactly what I need here.

Honestly I have found through playtesting if you get out a Trail of Mystery you can splash really whatever you want. I have also found that nonbasic lands are NOT optimal in this style of deck. There will come a point where Trail of Mystery pulls out all of your basic lands and you are stuck with less library thinning. I will still probably run a set of 4 nonbasics, but the rest will be basic
But the Ashclouds are an amazing asset that stops Stormbreath and reanimates itself. However, I only own 2 of them, so that's all I know
So I just won Game Day with Sultai Reanimator and I wanted to post up my deck so that others may be like "yeah, that works I guess", and it kinda does!
After some playtesting I found that Sagu Mauler and Ashcloud Phoenix are some of the best bombs you can bring out! Here is what I am currently running, and I will keep you guys up to date in my construction of this deck & I will try to run it on Game Day.

4 Temple of Epiphany
2 Stoke the Flames
2 Illusory Angel
2 Lightning Strike
2 Magma Jet

After some tweaking, I decided to try out this list instead:
2 Ashen Rider
2 Champion of Stray Souls
4 Hornet Queen
4 Sidisi, Brood Tyrant
4 Satyr Wayfinder
2 Siege Rhino
4 Sylvan Caryatid
2 Hero's Downfall
2 Murderous Cut
3 Taigam's Scheming
2 Utter End

5 Reanimators (3 Whip of Erebos, 2 Champion of Stray Souls)
Sidisi is used exactly as a form of self mill to fuel reanimation spells, and also can be reanimated to continue this form of self mill. Here is my idea:

But the Ashclouds are an amazing asset that stops Stormbreath and reanimates itself. However, I only own 2 of them, so that's all I know
