I just tried it at a local Gamestop today and didn't much care for it. The strum bar(s) felt a little too stiff for my liking.

Yeah, I would definitely want to try it before buying it (if it ever comes out for PS3). I play bass guitar in real life, so I'm a lot more used to upstrumming. As an example there are songs I can annihalate on actual bass, but can't do that great on in Rock Band due to the fact I have to down-strum and can only use my thumb. Long story short, as long as It's not too stiff, I could probably still play faster on it Smile

Okay, so I've become very interested about the special dual strum bass guitar for Rock Band, but when doing research it seems like it is only available for XBOX 360. Is there any word yet one when/if it will come to PS3?

For those that don't know what I'm talking about:

Wow. I hoped I'd never see the day when kids having imaginary friends and 2-year-olds being scared of monsters in the closet would be put forth as evidence of spooky goings-on. In fact, this whole thread is dismaying. It is, unfortunately, unsurprising, but still just appalling.

If your post is directly relating to mine (and I think it is) I love the fact that you just took the two pieces of evidence from kids, which granted is the flimsiest, and ignored everything else that happened to a large group of logical thinking adults. I really appreciate the open mind.

Just got back from dinner with my parents, and they recalled for my fiance the stories of their haunted house for my fiance...

Let me first explain a few things, my parents are both in their 60's and are very logical thinkers. I have no reason to believe they'd make up any parts of what happened to them in this house.

Apparently things occurred at a somewhat staggered rate for the first few months, they'd smell or see smoke (supposedly from a cigar - even though it was only the two of them and my baby sister at the time - and neither of them smoked) or see boxes taken out of the closet and set outside of it, but they came up with reasons why it probably happened and went on about it.

They had multiple people come up, my mother's sister and mother, and my father's dad at different times and each of them said (without talking to anyone else before) that they felt like they were being watched in the bathroom and didn't like the vibe of the house.

My parents continued to try to sort it out with logic, but two main events occurred (one to each parent) that caused them to drastically change their living style in the house (moving their bed and my sister's crib downstairs and them all living in the same room).

    1. My mom, while in the kitchen, hears the basement door lock, she yells for my dad and tells him that the neighbors (who were also the landlords) looked their basement door and to go get them to unlock it. My dad walks over to their door, but realizes they're not home. He waits until he sees their car pull into the driveway about 30 minutes later and asks them if they locked the door. The woman says she couldn't have, but my dad doesn't understand. She takes him down into her basement and shows there's a solid brick wall between the two basements.

Later on that day, my mother again here's the basement door lock, this time screaming even louder for my dad, he runs in and finds not only is the door now unlocked but it is slightly open. They go down into the basement and find nothing...

    2. My mother is gone for the weekend, but my dad expected her back early on Sunday morning. Well it's about 4 o'clock on Sunday morning and my father hears some commotion downstairs, sounds like my mom and multiple other people talking and moving around. He yells down the stairs to turn on the coffee pot and he goes and gets dressed, as he starts down the stairs everything goes silent, there's no one in the house and all the rooms are pitch-black.

There are other things that happened, but these are the two that really made them want to leave the house. After they had moved out they found out that an older couple had died in the house, the man had died first, but the woman didn't call anyone thinking he just wasn't moving. The woman dies the day after his body was removed.

Again, later on, my parents received a call from someone else who was renting the house asking why my parents had left so abruptly. They questioned because they thought the house was haunted and wanted to get my parent's thoughts.

Other things that occurred in the house:

    1. Often times they'd have dishes in the kitchen found in the middle of the floor, not knowing how they got there.
    2. My (baby) sister would act like she had been interacting with someone, even no one else was there.
    3. A cousin of mine (as a 2 1/2 year-old) went to visit for a night and my parents heard him screaming from downstairs, they went up to see what was wrong and he kept on screaming boogey man, boogeyman while pointing to their bedroom closet.
    4. My mother brought home a cat one day in her coat, and while it was fine the entire way home, once she got in the house it started to act strange and by the time she had gotten it to their bedroom, it clawed its way out of her coat and jumped out an opened window. They never saw it again.

Now take this for what you will, but like I said, I have no reason to doubt my parents validity on ANY part of this story.

@brokenEg i can't really give any advice except to get a job or save up, its hard to compete without money, ok you can build mono red with demigods, but its not that competitive... fact is everything in standard is expensive

I'm sorry I didn't explain better in my post, but I have a great full-time job that pays very well. The problem is I have a fiance, car, animals, house, bills, debt, etc. that comes with being an adult. That is why I don't have must disposable money to spend on Magic, and that's why I think it sucks when to be competitive you have to invest so much money into it, that most people my age can not.

I know that there is still the factor of skill, but skill can only get you so far if you don't have the good cards to back it up. Again, I'm really not trying to complain, it just is disheartening when the people that win most of the local tournaments are those that aren't necessarily the best players, but those that could spend the money to either net-deck a Tier 1 deck or buy the power cards. I guess again, that's why I'm destined to be a casual player Smile

I'll throw in my .02 here, although I'm a strictly casual player and only intended one FNM (because my brother-n-law asked that I go with him).

I was playing a pretty decent Kithkin deck, wasn't anything amazing, but as I don't have that much money for the game, I was okay with that. Most everyone I played with seemed okay. I wound up going 4-1 that night, beating a few notable decks, including NetDeck D-Storm. Anyway, the one person I noticed there had a deck consisting of the following notable cards:

    - An assortment of Painlands
    - 4x Tarmogoyf
    - 4x Garruk
    - 4x Thoughtseize
    - Some amount of mutavault (although I can't be sure how many)

Needless to say, he went on to win the night, and the person netdecking D-Storm came in second. Since it was my first tournament, I didn't win anything but had fun. I didn't talk to the guy that won, but he seemed okay.

I know it seems like I'm rambling, but I'll get to my point. For players, like myself, whatever you want to call me: casual, timmy, scrub, that doesn't have much money to spend on the game, how can we compete with those that can spend so much on their deck? It's not a problem with their attitude (as I've met less than nice people at all skill levels) it boils down to the amount of money, atleast for me.

While I don't consider myself a great player by any means, I think I'm pretty good, but no matter how much better I get and how much my skills increase (which does work playing better players, because I kept losing to the person who taugh me, and it made me a better player) there's always going to be that barrier of money.

I like the idea of a group of casual guys pooling their cards together and making the best decks, but unfortunately I don't play with a group anymore, and I don't know hardly any people in my area that play. So it appears that the FNM scene isn't for me...

What makes an Oscar worthy performance.

Many actors can do a specific roll justice. Many often already have certain traits or mannerisms which make the role easy. When you see your favorite actors on screen, you look at them and say "Wow, thats So-and-So. I love So-and-So, he is so funny."

Nichoslon is this kind of actor. His Joker was Nicholson in Clown makeup being Nicholson in Clown makeup. He was a safe choice for the role because it is just a variation of one he has already cemented in solid gold. With him as Joker, that movie could not go wrong. It was a safe bet.

I was against Ledger playing Joker from the very start, he made no sense whatsoever. Nothing I had seen from him indicated that it was a role he was cut out for. But he pulled it off.

When you watch Dark Knight; if you were the biggest Ledger fan in the world and somehow did not know he was in it, you would not have a clue it was him. His voice and speach pattern is way different. His mannerisms and way of moving is different. He is not Heath Ledger. Even if you removed the makep, you would be hard pressed to tell. At best you would be doing a double-take throughout the movie.

And he is consistant with the character throughout the movie. It isn't some random scene he nails, or that he just acts randomly. This is a well crafted alternate person.

That is the sign of a brilliant actor. He has had some decent roles and I enjoyed his movies, but Dark Knight shows he has never really had a chance to express that brilliance. It is the gateway movie of his carreer, and likely would have led to more absolutely amazing performances. It is why it is truly tragic to lose him. At first I thought his death was overhyped like any hollywood drama, but honestly he truly is a loss.

An Accademy which does not give him the award is a truly biased and misguided one. There may be some truly strong performances the rest of the year, but I seriously doubt anyone can truly pull off what Ledger has proven capable of.

I was bored on Saturday and watched a Cam copy of the movie (still have plans to see it this weekend mind you, this movie deserves my admission). Even at Cam quality and on my gf's cruddy Win 98 machine it was probably the most astounding movie I have seen in a long time. I want to see it in the theatres even more now.

QFT, this reflects my thoughts exactly.

When watching the Dark Knight, I was like, Chirstian Bale is a great actor... he plays Batman so well... but with Joker, I can only see the character, I can't see the actor behind the character. Even now it's hard for me to put Ledger and the Joker together, that's the sign of a great actor.

I will say I was in the camp of saying WTF when hearing about Heath Ledger getting signed up to play the Joker, but after I have seen him, I am truly impressed.

Was suprised to see gas prices in the low $3 mark for some parts of the US... until I saw that the posts were 3+ months ago...

The gas fluctuates quite a bit in Indiana, from about $3.95 to $4.15/gallon (atleast around me). Thankfully I have a Honda Accord, but I drive 70+ miles a day (from work to back) so I still feel the pinch.

Looking at possibly purchasing a civic hyrbrid or a prius for fiance since she currently has an SUV.

    3) Dark Cloud 2. Pros? Silly, but interesting plot. Customizable items and weapons with different paths for them. Plus, golfing after the level was cleared was just a weird addition that really made it feel different.

Completely forgot about that game, but it was great fun to play. Smile The Dark Cloud series I loved because it was so quirky and different. While Dark Cloud set a precedent, I thought Dark Cloud 2 took it to a much higher level.

I haven't played a ton of RPGs, but the ones that really stick out are:

    5) Legend of Legaia

I know some might not know this game, but I really loved the variation of the fighting and how you learned new moves. I liked also how it was challenging but not impossible. Some of the other cool sections were being able to play the Arcade game of yourself, and fighting in the arena for loot.

The couple things that stick out as poor where the slowness of movement on the map and the amount of random encounters. The graphics weren't really great either.

    4) Diablo II

This game is beyond awesome, and I have played it more times than I can count. I really enjoyed getting to explore that different classes and playing LAN games with my friends.

The game got to be quite repetitive after a few play-throughs as well as some of the parts of the game I dreaded (2nd Chapter for Example). The expansion definitely helped this game though.

    3) Final Fantasy Tactics

I really liked the job aspect of this game, as well as the storyline (especially the ending). It was different than any other game I played before it at that time and I will always have fond memories of it.

    2) Star Ocean: The Second Story

Kind of surprised to not see this on the list yet, but perhaps I've over-rating it. It blew my mind the amount of things you could do in this game, including all the side quests and everything you could master. I also loved the hidden dungeons and boss(es). It really surprised me how massive the game could be.

Not really many cons, I still sometimes bust this game out just to play around and reminisce.

    1) Final Fantasy X

I have to say it, this is one of my all-time favorite games, in any genre. The opening scene blew me away and from there I was hooked. Every aspect of this game was engaging to me, from making my Blitzball team awesome, to the "Monster Rancher" quests, to getting the final trophy, to finding all the hidden locals over the globe. I agree with others saying it had characters I actually cared about and a very memorable ending. Another huge boon was the Sphere Grid. I thought that was a very awesome idea, and the ability to customize and edit it helped a lot as well.

The two things that I somewhat disliked in the game was, at times, the linearity of it as well as how easy the boss battle at the end was (although this might be due to how much time I'd spent collecting/fighting the monsters).

Given that they're "upgrading" from a cover (and I hate the vocals on the Rush covers) to a master track that's got a new solo, they're forgiven IMO.

QFT, I love Rush and was so bummed when all 3 of the songs (1 on the disc, 2 DLC) were not only all covers, but that all of them sucked. My least favorite vocal-wise is probably Tom Sawyer, but then the semi-decent vocals of Working Man was killed by the, IMO, bad sounding music. Is that really the best cover you can get?

So, the fact that these are master recordings has me very very excited. I just hope they continue to release Rush DLC, as I would love to see some new songs thrown in as well.

Lastly, while I agree that those two songs might not be some of the best RHCP songs, I think they'll be fun to play.

So, continuing my ritual of checking to see the new DLC content for the week, I noticed the following:

Snow (Hey Oh) - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Tell Me Baby - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Closer to the Heart - Rush
Working Man (Vault Edition) - Rush

I must say that I'm pretty excited about all of these songs, the last time I wanted all of the songs that were released was the Disturbed Pack. I'm also psyched that I finally can get some non-cover Rush songs to jam out to. It kind of sucks that I have to by Working Man again, but since it's a alternate-solo master recording, I guess makes up for it Smile

As a bass player myself, I must say the Solo Bass Career is long overdue.. I was saddened that Rock Band didn't have something like this, but I digress...

The two things that I'm hyped up about are the song creation, because I would love to create songs for bands that I doubt would ever be on a game like this (Kamelot, Dream Theater, and Symphony X instantly spring to mind). I would also not mind creating some of my band's songs into the game either, although the lack of vocals definitely takes some of the fun factor away from that.

The second thing that looks good is the drum set. They definitely took it in the right direction with this game. Now, just because it looks good doesn't mean it will play well...

Although, as many of said, I can't really see myself shelling out almost $200 dollars again for a game, here's to hopes of Rock Band 2!
