I like the idea, and I do enjoy the simplicity of the RW archetype of "hey turn dudes sideways (that's all my Gisela deck is)," I dislike that they gave the color pair that has the biggest problems with mana production the "CMC5+ matters" general. Hopefully there's a quality ramp package in there to really help it reach full potential.

EDIT: upon further consideration, seems like a really REALLY good general if anyone was wanting to do dedicated giant tribal. It's almost like it was made specifically for that.

Zedruu the Greathearted says hello. Easily one of the funniest commanders you could build around. In the tide of war, with zombies and elves and massive creatures smashing each other to bits, a lone Minotaur Monk wanders through the carnage. She stops, looks at you, and as the chaos continues to erupt, she holds out her hand and says: "Here. I wanted you to have this."

I wonder if all the flip walkers are going to have some trigger when they transform that helps protect them, like Lilli does?

I took that as an effect of their "spark igniting." Lili was trying to heal to the point of necromancy, and the 2/2 is the product of her going full-necromancer, and zombifying the dead creature that triggered her transformation. I'm thinking that each DFC will have some sort of effect on transformation that is dependent on how the character's spark ignites.

Gideon's spark ignited as he mediated after a long hard fought battle.
Chandra's spark ignited as she was about to be executed while bound in chains.

...whoops. I'm nowhere close experienced with story elements. Looks like I still have more reading to do. I was just speculating that was what it was by looking at the card in a vacuum. I thought it would be a neat concept XD

At the beginning of your upkeep, announce your triggers like normal and make sure you announce that you're stacking them the way you need to. Some people may be sticklers for how you say it to try and get you on your wording, but some groups like mine will just accept it if you say "okay, upkeep two triggers, I'm stacking them so that Primadox bounces the Guide to my hand before I have to sac it, okay?" It isn't as complicated as it may seem if you're new to The Stack.

My meta gets more and more competitive every time we all play. My decks can easily hold their own in even the most cutthroat of groups, but it just comes down to how you play them. The fact of the matter is that if you see EDH as more of a social game, like we do, maaaybe a T1 Serra Ascendant isn't the best play. If your group is more competitive and really just everyone trying to play PTQ style, then slam that sucker down and make people cry. I like to make decks that can play both ways, so that you can adjust based on your group. Just my $.02 Grin

Norin. Nothing beats the feeling of sitting down at a table and people who don't understand his power chuckle at it and then you lay absolute waste to the whole table.

Of course, changing the rules is part of the spirit of EDH. The rules committee regularly tells people that the "official rules" are more guidelines. If a play group doesnt like something then the play group should feel free to change it.

So, the point is, if you dont like those rules try to convince your playgroup to change them.

While that would be a good strategy, house ruling to be more permissive than the rules results in a play style that's incompatible with other groups, whereas rules that are more lax to begin with can be tightened down without causing problems if you were to go play elsewhere.

For example, house ruling to ban Strip Mine in local formats causes no real problems when you go to another group, whereas if my group were to unban ancestral recall for funsies, it'd cause problems if I were to play with another group. (these are the smallest of examples. If I were to make a deck that relied on casting my opponent's spells, I'd be boned if I tried to play with another group. Likewise with a deck that makes use of hybrid)

It just seems very odd to have a deckbuilding rule this pervasive (that modifies the rules of the game itself) in a format that makes liberal use of concepts like "gentlemens agreements" and the like.

If it seems odd to you, why play the format? You literally came to the format's forum and said "Your formats rules are dumb and I think they're dumb and haha the game you guys play is dumb," without ever even having played the format. If you were seeking answers for why you arbitrarily disagree with the rules that are in place for very good reasons, you need to be open to recieve those answers and actually take them into consideration.

I hate standard, but I don't go into the standard forum and say "But why does it have to rotate? Why can't I use my Goyf in my standard deck? That's so stupid and arbitrary. This format sucks."
