Guess i need to stop getting hung up on all the enchantment removal in standard currently.
Hahaha i think the same despite adding them, but when i saw it's abilities i had to try it out at least once and it turned out pretty well. Funny enough after most of first game's it pretty much became the largest target on the field for all the players i went against.
Spiteful Returned Is weaker just due to it being a enchantment creature and that's it not saying it's a bad card though. The local meta i go to seems to run heavy on anti enchantments due to a few players running enchantment only decks. Leeching Sliver i like more since when all 4 are on the field it does 16 damage by swinging all four of them and for those who play with Mutavault's it deals even more.
Nightveil Specter I use for it's ability for the most part, but it helps with Phyrexian Revoker and that's about it. At one point i started to run Herald of Torment to try it out and you are right it does help a lot and can turn a game with a top deck maybe i should give it another chance. I was just gonna wait till september to switch it back, but you have a point about it being a better top deck.
Blood Scrivener I choose this card for several reasons over Pain Seer biggest reason is with all three of them on the field and no cards in hand i lose 3 life and draw four cards, but with Pain Seer i have the chance to run 3 and draw three cards with 3cmc losing me 9 life. In addition to that when i first put this deck together i was unable to get a hold of the final Pain Seer i needed at the time though since i have collected them and have decided to wait till rotation to switch them out.
Leeching Sliver + Spiteful Returned These two cards are very similar in my mind and i wanted them both in my black deck for the additional damage. Currently I'm seeing Spiteful Returned as a bit weaker due to it being an enchantment creature, but for now it does not seem to be directly killed for being one.
Nightveil Specter I prefer this for it's devotion factor over Herald of Torment in addition to it's unique ability. The devotion helps when i play Mogis's Marauder to make sure everything has haste and intimidate not nearly as important till after i sideboard Phyrexian Revoker though.
Rogue's Passage Adding a unblockable factor into my deck if I'm not drawing Mogis's Marauder when i need him.
Phyrexian Revoker is a needle on legs which is great in this deck since i won't lose an attacker like i would for a normal Pithing Needle . I Generally will sideboard a Pithing Needle against burn decks though.
My results from testing it are.
First game American midrange. Only loss of the night.
Round 1: [Went First] I won this before he could really do much so i didn't get to see much of his deck except two Izzet Charm 's.
Round 2: [Went Second] I decided not to sideboard this was not much of a round since i got land screwed till around turn seven finally getting my second land by that time he had full control of the board after sideboarding into all his creature removal. I conceded and we began another round.
Round 3: [Went First] Again i got land screwed till around turn 5 when he had control of most of the board.
Second Game. Dimir Control (Won) This was my quickest match up of the night for the entire 40 minutes given to us i won 2-0 after 3 minutes turning some heads when i told the store owner i won.
Round 1: [Went First] I didn't take chances and made sure to start with 3 lands after a single mulligan. It lasted only a few turns after by turn 4 i bestowed a Spiteful Returned onto my second leeching sliver finishing him off the turn after when i played another sliver and a Mogis's Marauder dealing the final blow.
Round 2: [Went Second] Ended in a similar fashion just as quick.
Game 3: Mono-Black aggro (Win)
Round 1: [Went Second] Won on turn 5 with my sliver spiteful combo again.
Round 2: [Went Second] He sideboarded in a few more kill spells and hit everyone of my slivers before anything else making sure they were killed off. I killed him turn 7 with a Mogis's Marauder
Game 4: Gruul monstrous (won)
Round 1: [Went First] He got land screwed drawing only forest and no mountain he conceded at 2 life.
Round 2: [Went First] He got his mana dorks out, but i killed them when he got his fourth our with a bile blight. After that i chipped down on him killing both his planewalkers with Hero's Downfall before finally dropping a Mogis's Marauder to finish him off.
I'm gonna try adding in a few Cruel Sadist over Rakdos Cackler next time i play it since this week i'm working on my esper mid-range. I did figure out later in the game if i had some Mutavault's it would of paired well with the Leeching slivers.
