I think it is because Automaton impacts the board the turn it comes down while mimic impacts only on subsequent turns. We are in some way a race deck and metallic mimic isn't the best at racing.

I am so hoping that 197 is Crystalline Sliver.

I am waiting to see what Defensive Slivers are still here. I am exciting for the Flying Haste sliver we just got, so I am still hyped for this set. I am still hoping for Crystalline Sliver/Hibernation Sliver or functional reprints with things like Hexproof. We could still get provoke with Hunter Sliver.

We still haven't seen any real Elf tribal stuff yet and that should be coming hopefully next week.

I wonder if we are getting a majority of new cards the first week and reprints the second week.

WE have found our first absolute maindeck inclusion in all format that it is legal in. Damn...this is good, instantly replaces Blur Sliver.

Don't forget there is Scry as well...

You could Thalia Taxing, Cursecatcher taxing, Card Draw like Dormant, Loaming Shaman-esque effects, Review the top card of the library and if a sliver, you may cast it from the top of the library, Sylvan Messenger-esque

Of the ones spoiled so far, the Unearthed and The First Sliver seem like possible inclusions.

The others might have fringe reactions. The Green one will be in Fast Slivers. it can be quite a house there.

Well, Slivers are back! Hopefully some of the needed ones exist alongside these ones. The unearth doesn't look too bad on the whole and great for sideboards. I am not sure of the Mythic one. I do hope though that we get Crystalline, Hibernation, and Muscle Sliver! They would be decent reprints at this stage. I am hoping for some good rare slivers providing taxing, card advantage (like scry/card draw), or other graveyard interaction abilities!

From the article it looks like Slivers will play a larger role in this set, so reprints, functional reprints, and new abilities. I know that I am going to be brewing my sliver decks with some of these new ones in mind!

BG Elves will probably 4 of the B/G land. The force might also be a decent play as well in the side.

Merfolk can benefit from the blue lands and force of negation.

I am eagerly awaiting hope for more Elf and Sliver stuff.

As an Elf player, this...is terrible. Fewer turn 2 broken plays with Shaman of the Pack or even just normal CoCo plays with Shaman of the Pack

well the 2 lord effects outside Rageforger that can pump the flyer sounds pretty good to me! If I didn't just sell most of my cards, i would love to buy back into Shamans to give it a try!

I might try Finale of Devestation into the Chord of Calling Slot in G/W Elves. The ability to get back a devoted Druid or Vizier of Remedies might be worth it to give up instant speed. Plus the haste ability might matter in drawn out board states where the payoffs are gone.

With Crystalline, we might want to consider not running CoCo or mana slivers at all for the unclaimed territory/ancient ziggurat package with a few basics in there for path.

I have been running something like this in Arena Traditional Ranking

I used to run the Clarion's Main, but I am not going against a lot of creature based decks and it is a dead card. Rhythm is never a truly dead card in a matchup. I am open to suggestions. I am not sure I like the 4 Shivan Fire and might switch to Lava Coil. I bring it in against white weenie, RDW, and Thief of Sanity.

I tend to think the seeing the deck list rule will ultimately favor Interactive Decks. They can finally mulligan or choose a hand that lines up with what they want to play.

I think Aggro and creature-heavy decks in modern have long relied on winning game 1 and squeezing out game 2 now that more information is known. This in someways made Modern the only eternal format with creature-based aggro strategies worked. Control couldn't just have universal answers and sometimes answers didn't line up with what was presented. However, the creature-swarm strategies for the most part coalesced down to humans and spirits primarily because of tribal synergies and the passive/active disruption in their kits or Merfolk because of the spell-based disruption/utility creatures.

Phoenix and Dredge has killed them further. There is no zoo, elves, and even more spell heavy burn is not doing well. Traditional Affinity isn't doing as well as Hardened Scales which may survive because of resilience and the synergy there.

I think this will hurt creature-based aggro strategies and continue to push them out of modern. Where are the places to play them? Even Standard isn't like a bastion of those decks (maybe best of 1 arena)

Couldn't the new Dovin Baan also work as a Phoenix-hoser for the decks that would like him?
