Since Tom Ross didn't spoil Noble Hierarch, it won't be in the set.

now with the spoiling of the enemy filter lands, are the worldwake manlands out?

EDIT: yea, no room for Celestial Colonnade. Yikes this is disappointing. The value of these packs on MTGO is going to be terrible. We really needed some creeping tarpits and celestial colonnades to buttress the value.

Trust me, you don't want to do that. Less will participate because writing 18 pieces of feedback is a lot. I only rushed things a bit because February has just 28 days.

round 1 posted, if anything seems off please let me know.
You probably don't need to give the top four 5 days to do feedback. That's the only thing that looked odd.

New color or colors? My efreet from round one was red and black, but the new color was black. Could I do a blue/black one since blue is the other main color for efreet, or does it have to exactly match?

My intention was for it to match exactly, but I think your proposal is in the spirit of the challenge so go ahead.

Someone should probably be posting the CCL Round 1 for March today or tomorrow. I just wanted to host for one month, so hopefully someone else wants to host March.

Thanks guys. A really nice round, and glad that y'all seemed to enjoy it.

Our two finalists are FreshMeat and IcariiFA. Goodluck to you both, and I hope y'all enjoy the final round.

I'm pretty sure they're going to be reprinting the allied manlands. Those will bolster the financial value of the set in paper and will allow Wizards to have some more time before reprinting the KTK fetches. The KTK fetches won't need a reprint for another few years. The Zendikar fetches have a good chance of being printed in the next two Masters products.

February CCL 2018 Finals - The Boardroom

Welcome to the Card Creation League! This Round is for the Top 2 Only. Feel free to watch and comment in the CCL Discussion thread!

    Our Finalists:
    IcariiFA
    FreshMeat

    Theme

This month we'll be unleashing our imaginations to make the familiar unfamiliar, the old new, the antiquated fresh. For this challenge, we will be looking to shake up Magic's eternal formats. Every year, be it in a Commander, Conspiracy, or Standard set, Wizards tries to print cards designed specifically to improve older formats. Fatal Push, Sanctum Prelate, Palace Jailer, Ash Barrens, Flusterstorm, and Field of Ruin are all examples of cards that R&D designed specifically for that purpose. It is important for us to develop the twin design skills of (i) insight into why a format has the contours and gameplay style it has and (ii) the ability to design cards for a format without upending or destroying it. This final round will help us develop those skills.

Please be sure to read the clarifications, and keep in mind that the cards need to be designed with usual R&D constraints in mind. In specific, that means, for example, that your Modern card needs to be printed in a Standard set, but your Legacy card can be printed in a Standard set or a supplemental product like Battlebond or Conspiracy. Have fun!

    Challenge
Challenge 1 —Design a card for Legacy. It cannot be mono-White.
Challenge 2 — Design a two-colored commander of the type and color chosen in Round 1. It will be a headline commander for Commander 2018.
Challenge 3 — Design a card for Modern.
Challenge 4 — Design a new card, or choose a card to downshift, for Pauper.

    • Make sure to include a rarity.
    • For Challenge 1, the card CANNOT be mono-White. I want us to avoid designing White prison cards because that's been the flavor of the day for the past few years for this card slot. Palace Jailer, Sanctum Prelate, and Alms Collector were all printed to bolster Death and Taxes, so let's show some love to something else please!
    • For Challenge 2, you may design a creature or a Planeswalker.
    • Challenge 3 is self-explanatory, just make sure the card is printable in Standard.
    • For Challenge 4, both options are equally valid. Sometimes a downshift is more tantalizing (Seeker of the Way, Mortician Beetle) and sometimes a new card is more tantalizing (Ash Barrens). I will say one thing — the benefit of a downshift is that you can have a higher overall complexity level because the downshift will likely be occurring in a Masters set. Recent created additions to Pauper include Thraben Inspector, Palace Sentinels, Ash Barrens, and Thermo-Alchemist.

Your submissions are due Monday, March 5th, 23:59 PST.

This month we'll be unleashing our imaginations to make the familiar unfamiliar, the old new, the antiquated fresh. In the spirt of Apuleius, in this round we'll be exploring ways to allow players to take on a new form and play the game in unconventional ways.

    Challenge
Challenge 1 -Design an enchantment "Form of the X" card that is not Red.
Challenge 2 - Design a blackbordered card that contains one of the following pieces of rules text:
    (i)"You win the game."
    (ii)"...lose(s) the game."
    (iii)"Restart the game."
    (iv) "...play a Magic subgame."

    • Make sure to include a rarity.
    • The Form card needs to be in the spirit of Form of the Dragon and Form of the Dinosaur.
    • For Challenge 2, you can design a card for print in a Standard set, Conspiracy set, or Battlebond set.
    • For Challenge 2, avoid the Platinum Angel and Abyssal Persecutor clauses. Those aren't in keeping with the spirit of the challenge.

PLEASE NOTE: This month will continue the use of the "Mandatory Top 3 Rule." For this month, you must submit a Top 3 during a round's critique period in order to receive any points for the round. Submitting critiques as well will be worth 2 bonus points in the round.

Your submissions are due Saturday, February 24th, 23:59 PST.
