Hmmm... good point. I think I will try them both. Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth is a possible oversight anyway, as it turns on all of my fetches even when I have no fetchable lands.
Trimmed Liliana down to one in order to fit a couple more finishers in... with all the tutors and recur, I'm pretty sure a singleton is plenty. If I need more of her in there, I can always add later.
Put a couple utility lands in there, because Loam.
With High Tide I didn't have issues with that, but it obviously does cantrip, and it's not good in multiples like Probe is.
Isn't High Tide both superfluous and potentially a liability given that it increases your probability of fizzling?
I never had an issue fizzling, but I did loot them away more often than not, which isn't the best sign since they're one of my instants/sorceries in the deck. They can help you get over the hump when going off at first, which was helpfully a couple times. Still, they probably are superflous. I'll go back to the ol' Probe and run it a bunch... after trying High Tide, I think Phyrexian mana is the way to go.
The deck basically needs Gitaxian Probes in order to recur additional Fatestichers so that it can eventually generate mana as opposed to merely breaking even. You should be running the full 4 no questions asked.
True. With High Tide I didn't have issues with that, but it obviously does cantrip, and it's not good in multiples like Probe is.
The deck has no Delve cards so why Mental Note over Preordain? Ascendancy can pitch your Fatestichers just fine so there's no need to mill them.
Great point. The reason is just that I am used to this deck with Treasure Cruise in it, and so when I build JA I just naturally put as many self mill cantrips in as I can. That's an easy sub.
I'd suggest something like the blue gear hulk or snapcaster mage. They both recur your instants and sorceries to keep creating tokens. A more budget friendly option could be a set of archaeomancer.
I don't like creatures in these decks, except Fatesticher, because they don't trigger JA. I don't need the buyback, and I can always just pop Summonings if I need to cast more spells for JA in a pinch.
So here is where I'm at with a Legacy version so far. Certainly not sold on the 4x High Tide... the first is awesome, but it's not NEEDED, but getting more seems miserable. I've tried taking some number out for Predicts, but I've never actually been happy to cast it because of the looting nature of this deck. I mean it's OK... but it's basically a 2 cmc cantrip. I suppose I could go back to Gitaxian Probe for some number of High Tides. Guess I'll have to try that.
I get that Worm Harvest has sweet synergy with Loam, but is it better than, say, Rise of the Dark Realm? I suppose it might be since it's basically free to cast and nobody is going to have enough (any?) blockers.
One thing in your list I didn't think of were LDs... Pretty sick. Gamble is also pretty sweet in this shell.
So I'm looking a building a Seasons Past control deck. The obvious Dark Petition engine to cast it every turn. A bunch of different CMC removal/tutoring/ramp, etc...
I think Liliana of the Veil would be sweet here. Maybe 1-2 Explorations. Budget isn't a concern, but Legacy B&R is strict.
As a draw/go mage at heart, I am interested in hearing what people think is the best, most competitive type of draw/go multiplayer deck in a Legacy environment. I'm a tournament level MtG player who is well versed in this style of play, so closing between several complex lines of play will not be an issue, btw. I also have an extensive Legacy card base, so budget won't be an issue.
What are the essential spell suites and interactions? What are the key weaknesses? Why would you play it/not play it?
This is incredibly general, I know, but I want to open the discussion up to as wide of an array of decks as I can... Call me curious.
Because Metallurgic Summonings works with the *free* cards that replace themselves, I think I'll be concentrating on this, with a heap of card draw. Ponder, Brainstorm, Impulse, Frantic Search, Manamorphose, Time Spiral.
These cards would fuel the graveyard for delve fairly well, but red cards do this better of course.
And there's alternate casting costs to consider also. Delve is already mentioned, but others, like Gush, Rewind, Snap etc. and the Miracle cards like Reforge the Soul, Temporal Mastery, Terminus could be useful too.
Obviously I'm not running all of these, just to give you an idea of where I'm going with it
Also... Storm doesn't make you shuffle your library... PSA.
Somewhat meta dependent, but Scoozy has always been good to me.
Ah... true, true. Pretty obvious oversight on my part. That's an easy sub for some number of the basics.

How do you all build it?

Oh I'm totally going to put together a Legacy version of this bad boy... that looks very sweet.
