I like the look of that list, Dizdo, but I'd highly recommend at least one Ghost Quarter. I've found it invaluable in some matchups, and it can save your butt against Crumble to Dust.
I'll do some testing with that mainboard but a modified sideboard. Also, if we're running two Feed the Clan, is the Ruin Processor necessary?
Hey Dizdo, I've been testing your list and made some changes. Took this to my LGS last night for a proxy event and went 3-1 (2-1 vs Grishoalbrand, 2-1 vs Merfolk, 2-0 vs Zoo, 1-2 vs Junk)
Really enjoying the deck so far, it's also been performing well on XMage. But I think it needs some slight tweaking still.
I'm also not sure about the Oblivion Sower. It feels more like a win-more card right now more than anything.
Ahh, thanks, somehow I missed it earlier.
I'm not sure if the standard two and three drops are really that great with Day's Undoing, but I'll give it a go when I get bored.
The Day's Undoing I pulled from a Japanese pack before the matches started. I ended up trading it afterwards since I have more arriving in the mail.
Yes I know the sideboard looks weird. Ideally it'd be -1 Torpor Orb, -1 Wear // Tear for +1 Thoughtseize and +1 Ancient Grudge.
Match 2: RW Burn (?)
Standard burn list, but I don't think he was running green. G1 I kill him through poison, blocking with Etched Champions. Brought in Inquisition, 2 Spell Pierces, and a Whipflare. G2 I manage to win with the Champion blockers and a Ravager.
2-0, 2-0
Match 3: Naya Burn
Stock Naya burn list. G1 I win thanks to an unchecked Steel Overseer, a couple Signal Pests, and a Skirge, because he pointed Rift Bolt at my face and killed my first Skirge with Searing Blood. Brought in same sideboard as previous match. G2 he burns me down quickly with an Eidolon, but the Ravager and Blinkmoth Nexuses get through.
2-0, 3-0
Match 4: Affinity
The good old mirror, opponent is a good buddy of mine. We decide to draw since we both were the only ones 3-0, so we both get the Path to Exile. And of course we play a friendly match after.
G1 I lose to an unchecked Steel Overseer leading his army, blasting his Skirge a bit early. I board in Inquisition and my 3 Ancient Grudges (although one's Wear // Tear). G2 we both have godlike hands, I end up blocking a 10-2 Ornithopter on T3 with my own (with a second 10-2 thopter hitting me in the face), and get two Platings on my Skirge to win by T4. G3 he gets there with a Master of Etherium, Vault Skirge, and Spellskite, killing off my Skite with a Blast which stopped me from securing the board.
Overall a fun night, I might run Day's Undoing again in my list again since I dump my hand quickly usually (and it stays pretty empty), but I'm building a variant that runs four of it.
Not entirely sure how I wanna handle Hangarback Walker, but I did trade for one tonight. We'll see if it has a place in either build.
Things to note: out of four matches, I only saw that Day's Undoing once (and it was very useful), and I only saw Glimmervoid twice. I might want to up my Glimmervoids to four (although I haven't been too hard pressed for colored sources), and if I'm running Day's Undoing, I want at least two.
Oh no, I fully understand you can't tutor for Retract with Muddle, zerodown. When I said that, I was just counting Recall as an extra copy of Retract in my mind, as I do with Noxious Revival. Thanks for the extra clarification though.
Sorry, Affinity is my Modern baby, followed by Grixis Delver. This one is just really really fun.
Hrm, I understand about the sideboard part and the lone black mana, but for now, I'm still considering stuff. I think I'll swap out a Plains for a Godless Shrine, but I find that even having the Godless Shrine in my opening hand is a detriment if I want to cast a cantrip turn one, and doesn't help much beyond that and casting the Puresteel Paladin game one. I'll try changing the Ardarkar Wastes to a 2/1 split Mana Confluence/Adarkar Wastes, because I don't feel like izzetmage's original 1/2 split helps much if I'm trying to find the Mana Confluence for an extra black source. I could also try dropping the Adarkar Wastes altogether.
I have not considered main boarding Hurkyl's Recall, and I don't necessarily think a second Noxious Revival is necessary, and you're right - tutoring for a Retract is a very nice use of Muddle the Mixture. I'll see how useful the second Noxious Revival is, but I've found even one to be pretty useful.
I feel like at the moment 20 cheeri0s is fine, so I'm gonna keep it at that and drop a third Sleight of Hand for Hurkyl's Recall, giving me seven Retracts (5 if I didn't draw one before I draw Noxious Revival). I'll drop it SB for Spell Pierce, since I felt like that would be pretty useful against most of the early removal, and threats when the opponent is tapped out. If I feel like I don't need the second Noxious Revival, I'll drop it for a Sigil of Distinction.
The sideboard is currently an iffy spot, I'd need to re-tool it a lot. I need to consider my local meta in paper (lots of Affinity and midrange stuff, mostly Twin and Delver, occasionally Abzan) and the wide variety of stuff I see on Cockatrice/XMage before I can settle on a list, but right now I'm just using the cantrip list's sideboard and it seems ok.
First Post! Hi guys, just wanted to say great work on the deck so far, and wanted to contribute a bit.
I've been working on my own personal list (on TappedOut, easier for me to manage) based off izzetmage's cantrip list.
I found his mana base a bit odd to work with, so I changed it ever so slightly to cut the Seachrome Coasts for two more fetches and so I have two Plains and an Island as opposed to one and none (extra insurance against Path to Exile and sometimes I don't need to crack a fetch for a shock). I also feel like the Mana Confluence is unnecessary since if we're comboing off, we have a good supply of Mox Opals for red mana, and can tap the Adarkar Wastes for colorless mana to cast Grapeshot as opposed to taking one from Mana Confluence.
For the most part, the actual list is fine, and I love the sideboard. However, I really like the protection and utility from Muddle the Mixture and Noxious Revival, and felt that Sleight of Hand and Monastery Mentor were lacking a bit. I'm much more inclined when playing this deck to go for the Grapeshot kill, and would rather save mana on turn three for filtering mid-combo, so drawing into Monastery Mentor is not as much of a priority for me. When he arrives, he does his job well, and can be found more easily thanks to the filtering we have. Sleight of Hand just was kinda mediocre as opposed to Serum Visions I found, but still useful.
I like Muddle the Mixture in the case I cannot draw my engine, and need to Transmute in desperation for him or even Grapeshot, and acts as protection. Noxious Revival is there to act as, well, revival, for key cards we need to ensure our combo goes off.
I'll do some testing with that mainboard but a modified sideboard. Also, if we're running two Feed the Clan, is the Ruin Processor necessary?

This looks good, I'd like to test it. What about your sideboard?
This is why I'm considering maindeck counters. Maybe a Spell Pierce or two.

I'm interested in seeing your list. I tried Day's Undoing a while back and found it odd but fun, and would like to try it again.

Some kinda budget brew, using a lot of counters and Hardened Scales. G1 I Day's Undoing on turn 4, discarding a Galvanic Blast, get a pretty decent hand back, and overwhelm him by T5. I bring in a Thoughtseize, Inquisition of Kozilek, and 2 Torpor Orbs, not knowing what he's playing. G2 I Thoughtseize him, discard his Plummet, and kill him with a Plated Vault Skirge.
2-0, 1-0
