MTG Salvation

It's amazing how just a card or two has turned opinions around. I was feeling iffy about this guild, which is the one I was looking forward to the most in the whole block. Now with the Ghost Council and Ghostway, I see the connections and how the guild comes together. It's a subtle guild, unlike both Izzet and Gruul (Izzet has subtleties but isn't subtle overall). It's strategy is less "in your face." I like it. When you combine it with the spirits, samurai, rats, and dragons of Kamigawa, the possibilities are insane. I'm pretty happy.

Also, I can't wait to throw Graven Dominator in my casual Pestilence deck. Whee-hee!

Am I the only one who didn't really like the split cards? I thought they were gimmicky and flavorless--which does not mean they weren't powerful.

What's up with the flavor text for this card? It's got to be the worst flavor text ever. It's even worse than Werebear. I really hope the spoiler is wrong about this, but I'm pretty certain it's correct. The writer should be starved himself (herself?).

While it is very cool that people are trying to fit these cards into guilds (and many of them are definitely in a certain guild), we should keep in mind that not all of them will have a guild affiliation. Some don't really sound like guild cards at all.

I really like the various ones that have celetial references. Neat.

I was looking forward to Orzhov, but the cards are just lacking. The Gruul are knocking my socks off.

At the prerelease, I hope to be able to play W/B/R, but I'll play whatever looks best from the cards in the packs.

Except that there is an uncounterable LD card and just one Solifuge on the board can be lights out for a control player--especially if you nuked his land already. I do agree with you in part that aggro also looks better than it actually plays. However, we've seen some really scary aggro cards from Gruul (and Boros), so it's hard to say how viable it is.

You have too few lands and a bad mana curve. If you are running a controllish build, you need at least 22 lands, and 23 or 24 are even better. Do you really need Kokusho, Yosei, and the Angel? I think the Angel is cool but not necessary.

Yeah, but Destiny got Masticore, Academy Rector, and Replenish--all of which are broken. And, in addition to the cards previously mentioned by another poster, Exodus had the insane combo of Survival of the Fittest/Recurring Nightmare.

Nemesis and Prophecy both were bad; six of one, a half dozen of the other.

I have a feeling Iridescent Angel will get reprinted. It seems to have Azorius written all over it. It's W/U and definitely promotes the status quo/control/defense vibe the guild has going on.

I just joined but I've been lurking for weeks. This site is great and r_e has the best spoilers.

About me: I'm your average Magic-playing vegan pagan gaming bear. I live in Asbury Park NJ and edit pet books for a living. I mostly play casual in a multi-player environment. I've been to serveral pro events but I've never placed very highly. I like to run rogue decks and don't playtest enough, so I get hosed.
