People have been making comparisons between the Muse, Arena, and Confidant. The fact is, these cards fit into different decks due to their comparative natures. You would never put Confidant in a control deck, and you wouldn't pick Arena over Bob for an Aggro deck. Muse does not replace Arena effectively because if you're playing control, you wouldn't want to swing for 3. You would rather pay 1 less, as well as being less vulnerable to burn as opposed to the option to attack. Fact is, with Muse doesn't really fit into any deck currently available, barring any competitive zombie decks in the near future.
Really? Why is that? I think the White Muse and the Green Muse are fun cards to play, I just don't like the fact that the Black one is ousting Arena's position as one of the best draw engines ever.
Speaking for myself, I'm distressed that Phyrexian Arena is being replaced by Graveborn Muse. Maybe it's because I've had the Arenas since forever, or that I like the 3 CMC over 4, or that it's an enchantment instead of a creature. Nevertheless, anyone excited that Arena is bowing out to the Muse?
I don't play Legacy, but here's my two cents nonetheless.
I don't think that Flash should be banned. People have been comparing it to Affinity, and I don't think that's a valid comparison. Affinity was a mechanic designed by Wizards. Badly designed at that, because a five year old with an Affinity deck back in the day could win without much trouble. The point is, Flash is a card. A card that only until recently was being abused. I admire that a person can take such a card and so creatively build a deck around it. Are we to punish innovation and creativity? Whenever a card becomes used, people cry for it to be banned. I mean, people are suggesting a ban to Dragonstorm and Bridge from Below, for goodness sakes. If these people had their way, we would have no decks, just piles of lands.
I'm not saying that card bans are necessarily bad, I mean, Dream Halls can get pretty crazy, but please be reasonable about it.
When building decks, my friend and I have different schools of thought: he would take out a calculator and figure out the ratio of the mix of lands that the deck needs, while I rely on a more intuitive method and just 'feel' what I need in my deck. How do the rest of you do it?
I'd suspend Bust, and something big like Akroma, Angel of Wrath. That way, I could blow up all their lands, and have the angel swing in for lethal afterwards.
This deck idea? This deck idea is so awesome. I can really see it being a strong and reliable deck. I'm leaning towards the Teferi/ Mystical Teachings side myself. Heh, if we want more redundancy for the Haste effect, why not include Akroma's Memorial?
Change is good; it prevents stagnation. That's why I love Magic, that each block can be so different from the others. I think that's why Time Spiral is fast becoming my favorite block: it can take old mechanics, mix it in with new ones to become something refreshingly nostalgic.
