If you are going to stick with the more basic land intensive mana base, cut all the non-forests down to 2 copies, and run a lot more forests. You have to get green to cast all your spells to get the other colors.

No, neither of those situations could occur.

I don't know the exact names of each phase, perhaps someone can cover that, but I know what happens where.

    1. There is a step after the main phase but before declare attackers where either player can play effects. If you want to tap your opponent's creature so it cannot attack, this is your last opportunity.
    2. Declare attackers step. The active player declares what creatures are attacking.
    3. After attackers, before blockers, players may play effects.
    4. Declare blockers step. Defending player may declare blocks.
    5. After blockers before damage, players may play effects.
    6. First strike damage happens.
    7. players may play effects
    8. Normal damage happens.
    9. end of combat step. players may play abilities. for example, if you wanted to play something like Divine Verdict after damage, this is the last chance you get, since creatures are no longer attacking/blocking after this.

At the prerelease I went to, every person got one in each flight.

I assume this was true for all large prereleases?

No, I think that just leaves the Timmy and Johnny part of you so unsatisfied with the way games will be played. At the moment you can see alot Timmy/Spike or Johnny/Spikes enjoying a competitive game. With power-creep you see less of those individuals depending on the cards it affected because Spikes simply do whatever it takes to win, so they'll simply play whatever is the best at the time.

Okay, well, let's leave these player archetypes aside then, since they don't seem to be serving us very well.

Power creep means there is less time in a game to recover from a down period, which means there are less opportunities to outplay your opponent, meaning bad players win more.

Power creep allows bad players to win more often.

There. I guess in my first post I made the incorrect assumption that 'Spike' implied good players. So here it is laid out, bad spikes like power creep, because normally they would not win, now they will.

The changes didn't hurt Spike at all. As long as there is a power creep to the set, Spike is happy.

Wow, no not at all. Sure, the occasional 'over the curve' card is nice. But most of the players I talk to seem at least somewhat concerned with the high power of cards being printed. Watchwolf was nuts when it was printed, now it would just be average.

Power creep makes Magic games swingier, and more draw dependent. There are less turns with which to gain lost ground in a game, as the creatures are so powerful, and the effects are so powerful that they kill you in one or two turns. Less time to recover means less time to play tricks and outplay your opponent.

So no, I don't think 'As long as there is power creep, spike is happy.'

I seem to recall Ideas Unbound as an instant at some point. People went crazy over it.

    Source: Five with Flores

EDIT: Oh..... I just realized we already had this. I look dumb, haha. My bad.

This popped up in my RSS feed, and I thought "Oh cool Flores previewed a card and it isn't on the Rumor Mill yet"

I guess I should have read the post first.

Thread moved & merged with appropriate thread in NCD.

    ...neither can Faeries?

But faeries has been popular for a long time, so it's more likely that they have played it forever, whereas 5-color would be a 'new' deck to learn for many.

I assume that is what he was implying.

EDIT: Ah, he beat me to the punch.

    Well hmm.

Either they are reprinting them in Shards, thus implying that they are going to get rid of core sets, or they are going to put core set cards into block theme decks, similar to the way the second and third sets always included cards from the ones before them each block.

EDIT: Ahh, I see that the orb has already discounted the first option, so I guess it's just random standard legal cards.

I think it is obvious that she was chosen solely based on gender, and that is ridiculous.

That banning books thing scares me too, assuming it is true.

I'm not really sure who I will vote for yet. It'll either be McCain or a third party candidate. I'd feel like I 'wasted' my vote if I voted third party, but I'm not particularly fond of either of the major candidates.

This isn't going to be a 'reveillark archetype' after rotation. There will be decks that run Reveillark, that is all.

You don't have to build a deck around it just to use it.

  • posted a message on New Ban/Restricted Changes... DIVINING TOP
I am not displeased by Top being banned. In terms of power, it was fine, but it was such a time-waster. Added probably an additional 5-10 minutes total to each match, give or take some depending on the deck.

Well they seem plausible enough I suppose. Although it is suspect that they are all directly related to their shard's theme...
