Feb 4, 2014Diagnosis Ninja posted a message on Launch Giveaway!Form of the Dragon. I sold my original collection, and it was one of the few cards I have left from it. My parents went digging and found a 9th Ed. copy in my cards while I was away, and made a birthday cake with the art for me while I was away with work. I'm currently working on a dragon based Commander deck to include it in.Posted in: Announcements

It's a very long time since I was a regular poster here, but I was hoping for some advice on a Black Green deck I've been tweaking since Varolz was released in DGM.
I've removed the parts of the deck which will be falling out of standard in a few weeks, and put some replacements into it which I'm not too happy with. I can't remember everything exactly, but I've included an out//in list.
OUT LIST
2 Rise From the Grave
4 Evolving Wild
2 Mulch
2 Deadbridge Chant
4 Lotleth Troll
4 Lifebane Zombie
4 Witchstalker
4 Varolz, The Scar-Striped
4 Blood Scrivener
2 Doom Blade
4 Grisly Salvage
4 Overgrown Tomb
8 Swamp
8 Forest
The main question I have is, what suitable items are there in RTR block and Magic 2014? Blood Scrivener replaced Vampire Nighthawk, but there's no comparison, and the draw trigger never really happens.
inb4 Scavenging Ooze. It's too expensive at the moment, and everybody in the local area is hoarding them
Moved to SNCD, keep all post-rotation talk in this subforum please.

Is it not possible in this circumstance that they are transform cards, one side being an enchantment, and the other being a creature? As for the God mechanic, it would be a method of swapping between both sides.
Although, I still can't imagine that use getting out of FNM.
So far, it's fitting nicely into my R/U Blast of Genius deck as an emergency tool with Catch//Release. Had to steal a Sanguine Bond from an opponent in order to stop him from oneshotting me with Vampires and Blood Tribute.
Unless you're playing against me. For some reason I'm the only person in the club who chooses second.
Then I remembered how much I enjoy using Flashback.
I bought the Eldritch Onslaught deck, because hey, why not? (actual reason being that I'm starting again and need somewhere to start). Currently, the deck comes across like:
10 Mountain
2 Terramorphic Expanse
2 Izzet Guildmage
2 Kiln Fiend
2 Wee Dragonauts
2 Psychosis Crawler
2 Mindshrieker
2 Ludevic's Test Subject
2 Charmbreaker Devils
2 Silent Departure
2 Mystic Retreival
2 Diviner's Wand
2 Electrolyze
2 Cerebral Vortex
2 Lightning Bolt
2 Desperate Ravings
2 Geistflame
2 Aether Tradewinds
2 Quicken
2 Think Twice
The problem I'm having is that it feels like I'm trying to do two things with the deck:
>I should find room for Burning Vengeance
One side of me says that I should trim the deck down, and make it focus entirely on Flashback. There's plenty of support for what I want in Innistrad, and I get the feeling that it's very aggressive. This would pull the focus back to instants and sorceries, with Kiln Fiend and the others of this style leading the charge. Drawing cards is great and all that, but the deck could win a lot faster.
>Wizard Control
The other side says that I need to move back towards the card draw side of the deck. By removing the focus on instants and sorceries (i.e, kiln fiend style creatures) and only using flashback as a tool, it would allow me to filter the deck down so that I can create a defence, using cards to counter spells and all that. Build up to Ludevic's Abomination and blap them that way. Psychosis Crawler would fit in here, and the deck would be more focused on defensive play. Drawing cards and using Diviner's Wand would allow for wizard creatures to lay the smackdown.
Any advice on what I should do/ any cards which would help with either side of the coin? I might just split it and make two decks
However, is there anything stopping him from copying a card like Think Twice, where it has it's own flashback cost, which is different to it's CMC?
I've tried searching through the comprehensive rules, but can't think of where it would be.
Basically, the problem comes down to the guildmage, saying it can copy a CMC of 2 or less. Does paying the Flashback cost affect the CMC while it's on the stack?
Anyway, I've had to knock Niv-Mizzet on the head, at least until I have something I can either trade with or I get a fair bit of disposable cash. Still, I'm pretty sure that you guys have given me a couple ideas that I'll investigate the next couple of days
Long story short, I'm starting M:TG again. Had to sell my old collection due to space and money issues. I've regretted it since.
Anyway, I'm inspired to create a U/R spell based deck after playing DotP 2012's Cloudburst deck. Sure, it might not be great in the game, but there isn't a lot that is.
I originally started playing during Mirrodin block, and finished just before Eventide was released. I remember how it worked then, but I'm needing advice on what new tricks have been added since then.
For a few pointers as to what I'm looking at:
> Anything from Modern: Sure, I'm most likely going to be playing casual for a long time, but it'll be easier for me to adapt to. I know the game hasn't changed massively, but I'm rusty
> Budget: I don't have a lot of cash, so I can't exactly afford the greatest of rares. Still, I'm willing to look at stuff if it's cheap, seen as I can get stuff here and there as I go.
> Deck: Right now (if I can remember how to do this right, I'm looking at something like:
2 Elixir of Immortality
2 Djinn Illuminatus
2 Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind
3 Gelectrode
3 Wee Dragonauts
2 Increasing Vengeance
4 Into the Roil
4 Lightning Bolt
2 Think Twice
2 Mystic Removal
Right now, I'm wanting some advice on some creatures which may slot in nicely, and anyway to help push a win. Relying on Lightning Bolt will work against a computer, but I doubt it'll carry me on against a real person with any regularity :S
overall, i reckon Vengeant is slightly better than goldmane, mostly because i like the first ability better. if you can defend him, you can get the seven, which i have seen happen a few times round here (the big ability on a planeswalker, not Vengeant's ). Then again, you have to remember that Goldmane is easier to get, with Vengeant being a Mythic Rare, apparently.
on a side note, seen as Ajani has been remade, do you reckon we will see the other Lorwyn Planeswalkers remade this set? could be another 4 of our Mytic rares in this set...
Name 2RR
creature- goblin warrior
Green (boosty effect goes here)
Black (boosty effect goes here)
Green and black (boosty effect goes here)
P/T
okay, i know that isnt the best, but it would be a way to promote multicolour decks, but would reward the 3 colours the most. the only problem is that could go too far, and end up with a BRG boosting everything else...
alternitavely, you could have a card getting love from its ally stuff:
Name 2WW
creature- human soldier
[this] gets (boosty) for each green (thing)
[this] gets (boosty) for each blue (thing)
P/T
i know that isnt the best, either, but its a demo. with that up, you kinda get the 3-colour lovin' that this set might have going on...
