How does cleaning up the rules by removing a generally unnecessary rule make any kind of argument for treating hybrid differently? It’s a much better case for leaving things alone and thus consistent as opposed to creating exceptions.
Because the rule was their based on flavor and then removed later because mechanically it didn’t make sense.
Hybrid mechanically is something either color could do. Even arguing that it flavorfully doesn’t make sense is wrong because a mono-colored Commander wouldn’t need to understand the other color because the concept is something they understand in their color.
except they're also considered multicolored when determining color for things like protection too... so... yeah, they're multicolored, it functions just fine, and it fits the flavor of the format just fine too
I never quite understood this argument, because the card color |= color identity, yet you hear it all the time even from members in the RC.
Color identity is purely a deckbuilding restriction based on criteria other than or besides the card's color during the game, and you can come down on either side of the argument, but using variations of the "hybrid cards are both colors in play" seems disingenuous.
The fact that they also changed how mana producing permanents worked in Commander shows why barring hybrid is ridiculous too. If they were so keen on keeping it the Commanders colors exclusively then they shouldn’t have changed it.
So you can add U, B, R or G to a mono white Commanders pool but can’t cast Zealous Guardian, Mourning Thrull, Boros Reckoner or Dryad Militant despite those being things mono white could do? That makes no sense.
Huh... does anyone know what happens when a mutated creature becomes a human later on? (Such as using mutate on a face-down den protector)?
Nothing. It has no creature type when face-down, so it wasn’t a human making it a legal target for the ability. If its at the top of the pile and you turn it face-up it will still have all the mutates under it, you just won’t be able to mutate it further.
That's not the same effect at all. I need the mechanics of the ability to remain the same. Your suggested changes changes the mechanics of it.
Your assuming it being flashed out will stop spells/abilities cast/activated before it because otherwise why does this need flash when the ability only works on the battlefield? Guess what?....it won’t stop since they’ve already been cast/activated.
They literally could have finished the Bicycle land since it would be the enemy version which would support a wedge theme.
It’s boggling my mind why people complain about WotC taking forever to finish cycles and then when they could but don’t everybody eats it up like its the greatest thing ever.
Im calling it now Zendikar3:the Revendrazi-ing will have a new enemy cycle of lands instead of finishing one off....and people will extol it greatness...then immediately demand the allied versions.
I do not care for this effect, though the card is fine. Discarding is far more desirable a drawback than bottom of the library. They should have give this to white.
If discard is more desirable because you want and can use them from the graveyard then it’s not a drawback anymore.
It's like a Glare of Subdual on a stick. Declare attacks, then tap blockers?
Your doing it wrong if it’s not a game ending attack. First you tap down their creatures on their 1st main phase, then vigilance attack on your turn, then tap down on their 1st main again, attack again on your turn.....lather, rinse, repeat till game.
This honestly just need a slight tweak and should have been green. Like only being able to exile a creature with less power than the one you tapped to cast the spell and being able to target an untapped creature. Like damn WotC how it it that player can look at your ideas you spent years on making and point out the flaws and fix them in short order.
Seriously this is at least the third big one i can remember. Beast Within Players- This should just hit artifacts, creatures and lands. Chaos Warp Players- Why doesn’t this keep going until it finds another permanent to put in play?
Why is this a mechanical color pie failure? The examples you listed both are, while White can exile things, and add +1 counters. Combining the two isn’t an issue, it doesn’t violate any mechanical limits for White.
I’m not arguing that its a mechanical fail. Its a huge flavor fail from the name. It’s completely idiotic to have that name when the guy in said art could turn around and casually eat the behemoth he’s falling to. Flavor wise how are you justifying a 1/1 human eating an 8/7 behemoth when cannibalism isn’t how white deals with that?

Flavorwise yes, the name should have made it green.
Mechanically? Hell no this is definitely white
I know mechanical it’s more white or black(wait why wasn’t this black!!!!) but sometimes you have to borrow from another color but put restrictions on how its done.
For example
Swallowed Whole G
Sorcery
As an additional cost to cast ~, tap an untapped creature you control.
Exile target creature if it has less power than the creature you tapped to cast ~. If the target was exiled, put a +1/+1 counter on the creature you tapped to cast ~.

So Drift probably isn’t showing up in Ikoria set proper....where it would make sense. It wouldn’t even be a silver bullet for mutate because they just get all the creatures in a mutate pile back.
If we go by naming convention this would be SelAd. So I'm hoping to be the first to coin this cards nickname as Salad since it’s kinda what the card does.
So green decks can run CoCo and Salad.
Species Specialist seems like it should be an assassin or a rogue to me. Maybe its the art, or its abilities, I don't know. I like it though. I had a feeling the impetuses were a cycle. Also, Verge Rangers is amazing.
If he wasn’t on Ikoria you’d have a point. Assassin’s are hired to kill a specific target, often for political motivations. The need to kill giant monsters on Ikoria is an everyday necessity for survival, and sneaking around giant monsters is easier regardless of skill so Warrior make more sense.
