People aren't complaining about one bad rare, they complaining about one bad rare that sets a bad precedent. There are two big problems with this card. It continues the trend of rares that have no right being rares, and it also continues the trend of powering down non-creature ramping. We can't even get Rampant Growth anymore.
I don't play Standard, so I really don't care, but I can see why people are annoyed with this card.
not just "non creature"
ramp is suffering in general.
Which is sad because from my point of view the issue was not that they were too good but rather they tended to over lap too much. Green needs that cheap ramp to function, if there is too little or pricey to play most people will move away from green, but if there is too much ramp it becomes way to powerful. It feels like Wizards is trying to solve a problem by over reducing ramp by way of rarity and conditions when they just need to give a single cheap common ramp card once every other set so they do not overlap.
So the scribe (as well as stabbing his hands with quills) has extra, mutated fingers, and the parish-blade has an ominously-coloured tentacle...
That tentacle looks an awful lot like an Eldrazi tentacle...but maybe I'm just being....paranoid
Or the five legged shrew the mad prophet mentioned might be more real than we thought. So maybe there is going to be a new eldrazi popping out of the silver moon.......would make sense as it would explain why Sorin started fighting them.
Seems mostly worse than waif. Definitely worse than Captive. Unlikely to see much play while Falkenrath Glutton and Zurgo are both legal.
true, it is not as good as that plucky young lass from back when we first went to Innistrade. But getting this out on your first turn should have similar effects.
Besides I will argue that the werewolf is slightly better, because it is not rare so it will be easier to get and actually play.
Ok, this set is starting to feel crazy. Some cards are good and are in the lower rarities and then some cards are just mana dorks and are in the high rarity.
Do you honestly think this is a better card than the rare mana dork? Because it isn't, not by a long shot.
To be honest it is pretty close either one would receive the same amount of focus once on the field. The main issue for me was the mana dork being rare...........especially when they give us Vessel of Volatility at common and lets be honest both Vessel and the mana dork will probably live just as long out on the field.
And just to end it at least the 3/3 body doesn't die to a dead weight end even combos with other clue cards.

So Voldemort angel is probably the captain of Flight Moonsilver and is probably WB aligned. I'd also venture to guess that she's got the art with the gold armor, freaky eyes and wicked-looking sword. I'd also be willing to bet she's got something to do with the overall plotline of the block.
Seeing how Bruna and Gisela don't have new arts being previewed, I'm guessing Sigarda's going to have a new card but Gisela and Bruna won't, or at least not in SOI.
That is obvious Gisela and the blue angel one is Bruna ...
Also the BW angel was killed 1000 years ago, i dont think she'll be showing as a card, at least in SOI, maybe next set Liliana can do some shenanigans to revive her.
Well if this BW Angel is similar to the pure B demons then there is a definite chance that she might share one of their key Innistrad traits which is to reform after a given time. Demons on Innistrad appear to be made of pure black mana so when they are killed that mana dissipates and eventually reforms else where to form a new version of that demon. It is sort of like being reincarnated to a degree, and was the reason that demons had to be sealed away.
Though I still feel like the culprit is the chainvail or rather the Onakke ogres. The "great work" would sound something like making a path for their return, wipe out the original inhabitants to make room for them.
"The Great Work" certainly sounds like Phyrexia, though there is no other evidence whatsoever (at least so far) that the corruption of Avacyn relates to the Phyrexians.
Sigarda is the only one of the four major angels who remains uncorrupted. We don't know much about the other angels. Presumably at least much of the flight of herons (Sigarda's flight) remains pure.
Also interesting to hear that there once was a (presumably) WB Powerpuff Angel. I wonder if we'll get more of her story (or perhaps she'll be restored in Eldritch Moon somehow).
If I remember correctly the majority of Sigarda and her group have always been the least dependent of Avacyn. Case and point is when Avacyn was sealed it was only her group that remained active while all the other groups just steyed in their hidouts.
You know I started college when the first Innistrad Set came out.............. So in the time it took me to get two degrees this guy managed to turn himself into a giant monster bug.
I am not sure how to feel about this to be honest.
Can I quote this or something? For some reason it cracks me up.

But in the new art the hair and wings are now a dark gray turning on black. And I got to say that this set is starting to make me excited that maybe MTG is making a turn around to being more fun, or at least we are seeing tribal return.
Chances are that this was Griselbrand's plan along. When Avacyn got trapped in the vault she might have been corrupted/infused with black mana, and since all her angels are linked to her............well looks like the entire system just got rekted.
Honestly, I think the bigger issue may be wrapped up in their store program. Namely, a lot of stores (which are their direct entry point for players to MTG) provide the connection to customers, so to ignore the amount of money those people have tied up in old reserved list staples may mean those people cash out and stop bothering to open stores. Obviously, not all of those people have stores but a lot of power etc is owned by people who do own stores. As it is opening a store is not a great proposition as a business plan. But if they didn't need those stores, they probably wouldn't care about the reserved list at all.
Kinda strange though, because in the long run wouldn't they have more to gain from reprints? Hear me out, if they put more copies out it means more players will end up getting at least one of a certain card which will cause them to have a stronger desire to get more if not a playset of that card that normally would be deemed to expensive to buy.
No matter how valuable a product is, if it is not moving it is not helping pay for the store.
To be fair the collectors might not be the ones actually complaining but rather it is the ones who are treating MTG as a stock market that are. They are the ones who tend to amass as many copies as possible and hoard them for massive resale profit. A collector tends not to care about the value but rather the condition of their items, they tend to enjoy the work and process of making their collection over any monetary gain they might achieve.
My problem with a new bad is that we already have 3.
1. Bolas
2. Phyrexians
3. Eldrazi
And then you already have open threads with.
4'ish - Ashiok
5'ish - Raven Man
6'ish - The Veil
Kinda felt that Ashiok was like Tibalt, an evil that just emerged and trying to find its place in the multiverse. And the Raven Man appears to be the one that helped in leading Lilianna to the Veil, so those two might be connected.

Over all I like what I have seen so far. It actually looks like common and uncommon card are going to get some love this block.
EDIT: Quick question, since Dead weight is making a come back, are there any other reprints people would like to see come back?
