Xen glanced at Flame Tongue saying, "That's true, but Kennar raises a valid point. If the goal of their retreat was to ambush us then a trap near the summit of the mountain would suffice."

Xen's gaze went to Kennar, "However, there is the possibility that they are doing a full retreat. If this is the case I doubt we'll find our targets up there."

Xen looked to the mountain now and paused in thought for a moment saying, "Unless... They may need power from the mountain for their next escape..."

Xen surveyed the area again trying to pick up any sort of mana trail that may have been left behind. While he did this he said, "No matter the case, we have little to go on. Following the trail up the mountain may be for the best. Either we find them or we'll get a better idea of the land. For now, as far as I can tell at least, going up seems to be our best bet."

Xen stood still for a moment and scanned the scenery in response to Flame Tongue's question. He was looking for bent grass and broken twigs and branches.

Xen watched the other two go through before him and muttered to himself, "There is no hoping we're ready. Either you are or you are not."

Xen smirked at this before striding through the portal saying, "Fortunately for them, I am."

Saffi looked distraught while maintaining the portal. As the three arrived she spoke while looking at three tiles on a nearby counter saying, "Takes those with you. This plane feels familiar, yet something inside me shudders at what can only be described as an alien presence. I'm worried about what's on the other side and what may come through if the portal is left open."

Taking her gaze from the tiles she looked back at the three pleading, "Be safe, stick together, and see if you can track down the ones responsible for House Shimia's destruction! Now hurry through!"

Before the three lay the portal, a swirling mass of white light flickering with the colors of the rainbow. Saffi was right, something about this portal felt wrong.

Proceed to the stores after you finish with role playing. Send a PM to all WPLs with your old character sheet listed first, purchases and changes (including XP gained from this thread), followed by your updated character sheet.
Xen nodded and ignored the stress placed upon the word human.

If he thinks lowly of me because I'm human then so be it.

"I'm not your traditional green mage. Contrary to any stereotypes you may have, I rarely summon a normal creature. Typically I'll summon an elf or two followed by insects. From there I can remove, restore, and replenish our reservoir of magic as well as deprive other casters of a chance to cast. My utility is vast and potent. I even have a few spells that should extend your spells even further."
    replied Xen.

Xen smirks as the Viashno passes by ignoring him. Amused Xen followed up behind the Viashno towards the Flamekin. Hearing Kennar's response his smile faded a bit as he recalled recent events in Ravnica. Then looking at Kennar's form the smile vanished as he realized how far the Flamekin had changed from what he had seen on Lorwyn.

    What did he sacrifice...?

The question was left unasked though as Xen focused on their mission. He evaluated the two at his side before introducing himself saying, "Xen Anastan of House Shanodia, I understand we'll be working together. Normally I would not ask this but recent events have showed me that dancing around facts can be fatal. So I ask, how skilled are you two and what is the extent of your spell knowledge? What forms of magic do you excel at or specialize in?"

So all my theories were right, except that I fell for the red herring (Tarrlock being Amon earlier on in the series). Frown

I guess I can buy Tarrlock's attitude change and self sacrifice. His reaction to the confrontation with the Avatar can be seen as panic. His actions though were still oriented towards the gaining of power to control Republic City in his own way. I think when his brother took his bending he did a retake of his past actions while thinking about the good times of his child hood. This is probably what made him realize he had become what he hated when he was a child. At least that's how I can rationalize his actions. :/

The implication with the blood bending combined with the chi blocking on the Avatar indicate that there are four central chi or chakra (Whatever they wish to call the channeling/bending source). One for each element: earth, fire, water, and wind. I think then what Amon did to Korra was block three of the four chakras, after all he'd never actually attempted to take the bending away from airbenders yet (He was going to during the rally but the Avatar showed up). Perhaps he knew the general area of the chakra he needed to target and thought he could just take a moment feeling it out when he got to the airbenders. So that's my reasoning for her having airbending available after he blocked her bending. Then of course when she entered the Avatar State Aang showed he how to energy bend to clear the channels/chakras again. This in turn brought back all of her bending abilities, and why we see her entering the avatar state to energy bend those affected by Amon's attack.

Overall I liked this episode despite Status Quo being maintained by the end. Though the fights didn't feel nearly as epic as any of the Last Airbender season finales (which I think was today's but I may be wrong despite it being an hour long double episode with everything being tied up by the end).

Oh, and it's official: the lieutenant is now the new cabbage vender. >.<

The guy just can't get a break!

I definitely want them to explore that character more in the next season. He seems like a good man at heart, his loyalties were simply misplaced. Perhaps they could bring him into the police force if he ends up reevaluating his outlook on life. Then there could be a melding of disciplines with chi blocking.

Heh, I now want a Bruce Lee personality that has that mindset of combining all disciplines into one martial art whether you can bend or not. One that would allow for a seamless transition from one art into the other to become whatever is needed for the situation. The Avatar would gain the most from this, but others like officers would benefit as well. This is because they would then be able to use their bending to chi block at range (except for fire bending, as their only other non-lethal ranged attack would be lightning blasts to stun).

Anyways that's enough for now, here's hoping they don't continue the power creep too much more.

Intrigued Xen looked for the orb asking, "What remains of this orb and how did it attack all of these mages?"

    Quote from Arnnaria
Whoever called Tarlock being a blood bender gets +1.

Good episode. A little bit confused; but still things are moving at a rapid pace.

Happy dance here. Though I called it with respect to Tarlock being Amon. I still think that's the case. It's hard to read that reaction on Tarlock at the end, but I found too many things lining up in favor of the theory I proposed earlier.

For instance when Team Avatar stops the equalist jail break only to have Tarlock's task force show up too late. The whole time there wasn't a single task force member in pursuit. I find that way too convenient especially given what we saw from the metal bending police force in the first episode concerning pursuit of suspects.

Everything just screams of Tarlock's interference in the matter. We see him fast at work to do exactly what's needed to drive more people to the equalist movement.

I will admit that the red herring is still a possibility. But considering this is a show for a younger audience and that we haven't had any other major characters introduced, I believe Tarlock = Amon.

"The name of the one I need to talk to would have been helpful..." replies Adam a bit irritated.

"Let's see... A look into the future might help here..." muttered Adam as he cast his Past Reflections spell to glimpse futures where he might find the one gathering the supplies.

    Past Reflections :1mana::symwu:
    Instant (C)
    Scry 3
    Scry 2
    Scry 1

When he finished studying the visions he looked for some mana to take with him on his journey.

Assuming I level from that spell I'll boost my power.

Xen nodded and then turned to survey the rest of the mages. Many of them he did not recognize. There were a few though that he recalled from last festival. One in particular stood out to Xen.

"Tai!", shouted Xen as he waved him over in greeting. Deciding to meet the paladin half way, Xen strode towards him and then asked, "What happened here?"

I'm well aware of what's transpired here as a WPL, but my character is not. Hence the role playing. That and I want Xen to be aware of the orb for future character development.

Adam thanked the master and left with a courteous nod. Then seeing as he was in an Academy he decided to seek out one who could show him the ways of summoning creatures.

After a few quick conversations with pupils and faculty of the Academy, Adam was given the name Borrick. With that name in hand he sought out the summoner for instruction while keeping his senses open for any stray mana.

Another human mage approached the ruins, this one wearing a knee length black leather jacket, travel pack on his back, and satchel at his side. He paused when he reached the edge of the ruins. Astonished he brushed his hand through the bristles of his not so recently shaved head and sighed.

Despite this apparent exhaustion, the man seemed filled with power that only other mages would sense.

Xen surveyed the wreckage noting the epicenter of the recent fight with the orb before his eyes came to a rest on his House Master, Rofellos. He then began to pick his way through the other mages and house masters until he stood before his master.

With a bow of respect Xen said, "Anna of the Golgari told me there had been an attack..."

Xen's gaze drifted back to the devastation before snapping back to Rofellos saying, "I see now that 'attack' did not quite encompass what I had originally thought to happen."

Xen rose from his bow and surveyed the scene once again saying, "I've completed my study of the Cycle. Though now I wish I had been here, perhaps I could have lessened the damage..."

Xen sighed again before asking, "What is your command?"

Xen stepped into the shop as he had done so many times before. Smiling upon seeing Frankie, Xen said, "Yes, I've heard of the attack, it's the reason I'm here."

Xen laid a rather large bag of gold on the counter saying, "I believe this is the gold you'll be wanting for the spells I have in mind."

A double check by both parties was all that was needed before Xen was placing the gems into his bag. A bow of thanks was given before he made his way to House Shanodia...

A bow of thanks and a farewell was given before he left for Estark...
