user-11163982 posted a message on [PRIMER] ELVES STANDARDI have been playing with elves for a few days now. My thoughts and experience:Posted in: Standard Archives
- it is unreasonable to try to be a small aggro, because elves are just too small and inefficient attackers
- Shaman of the Pack can give you reach or even a combo kill if you are able to get multiples and flood the board
- Sylvan Messenger provides enormous card advantage, it is basically a 3 for 1, which is better than most midrange or even control decks can do
- Languish is a thing, you have to be able to beat it in maindeck
- Eyeblight Massacre after sideboard makes every small aggro matchup easy
- Gnarlroot Trapper lets you get damage through large midrange threats
- Nissa positively surprised me, she smooths out the mana curve, counts as third to fourth land drop and provides inevitability in late game (always + to find Shaman or to get t oultimate)
- Dwynen is good against Goblin tokens, in damage races and she can block mantis Rider, but she is a miserable lord, therefore I run only one
- Winnower eats Rhinos, Tasigurs, Coursers and many more and it is basically unblockable especially with Gnarlroot Trapper
- I have been happy with three Whisperwood Elementals maindeck, because it helps against Languish and enables Shaman kills
- Thoughtseize maindeck solves all the problems and thanks to Messenger you see it less often in late game
- Chord enables Shaman kills and helps to find situational cards like Dwynen, Winnower, Whisperwood, Nissa, Reclamation Sage or even just Trapper or Elite.
- Collected Company seems not to fit, because it is at tension with Sylvan Messenger as 4 drop, but it provides less card advantage and you don't really get muchtempo out of it -

silph posted a message on The 20 extra uncommons - 1 year ini haven't drafted enough to say for sure, but i vaguely feel frusteration with it.Posted in: Limited (Sealed, Draft)
i'm the type of drafter who likes build-around-me and put-the-pieces-together cards. i remmeber continually wanting to build around some of the green uncommons in Fate Reforged and Dragons, but almost never getting more than one copy of them.
diluting the pool, to me, seems to make such build-around-me uncommons almost useless all of a sudden; or at least it makes it much harder to (say) make a deck centred around it. this is bad for diversity, i think.
but, as i said, i haven't drafted enough to get a very solid opinion on this. -

Article I wrote about conspiracies in cube and how they play within the format. It may be a little late, but as the saying goes "it's not about when you get to the party, but that you get to the party". Thanks for reading! -

Spike Rogue posted a message on [360][Powered] AnngryHermits Mystery boxI'm with Rantipole on Nissa Worldwaker, it played really well for me when I played your cube as part of your green super ramp package. I cut Cloistered Youth myself a while back, not because it necessarily underperformed, but it does tend to be underplayed because it's a flip card.Posted in: Cube Lists
I don't think Rampant Growth or Farseek is particularly necessary, so I'd say that's a better cut for Evolutionary Leap than Pod.
The rest of your changes look great to me, I can't wait to try your cube with these changes!

rantipole posted a message on [360][Powered] AnngryHermits Mystery boxI like almost all of this. I'm not at all sold on cutting Worldwaker and I don't see the need for Containment Priest. At this size, blue is likely too tight for Spellskite but you could play it there instead of cutting it.Posted in: Cube Lists

I received a bunch of nice looking proxies which is why my list has gone from a casual multilayer cube to a full on powered experience.
Another member of my regular Playgroup maintains a really well established 465 unpowered cube which we draft regularly. So this cube is more for a change of pace and to mix it up now and then. I am trying to keep it at 360 so as to not dilute the experience too much and make sure everyone gets a chance to do something broken.
Our first play experience went well but there are still some pretty big gaps in the list which i hope to slowly fix via Puca trade.
Without further ado, here is my list:

I still like to have some of those but recently sold a big chunk of that Modern stuff leaving me with one unccompetitive but favourite deck (Faeries). Haven't regretted it one iota and while everyone loses their mind over bans and eldrazi it feels nice sitting back with my arms behind my head "not my problem".
You have to make Magic work on your terms not Wizards. I was a bit snobby about proxies until I tried them. Now it's not just that they saved me money, it is also more relaxing when other people handle my cards. Which is what happens in the actual part of the game that matters, the playing!
I wouldn't even add the new Wasteland or Force of Will if I open them into my cube over my current proxy versions.
I don't have a Jace flip walker in my cube yet, not stressed. Cube and Magic existed before he did. I will add him eventually but on my terms not in the retail cycle Wizards want you to follow. They get my money every week for retail draft as long as they are doing a good job.
Relax, if the chase isn't fun then don't take part. I am sure your cube is already fun to play with.

I'm definitely on board with that swap.

This card makes it all worth it. It is an obvious pay off for that archetype and a solid card by itself. Slam Dunk include.

I love the way you handle double faced cards in your cube. Apart from the bit where it means I still have to get 2 x Liliana's, Jace etc

I am on the side of playing the ones you want to play because of their power not the surprise factor mini game. I think it's fairly easy to get to one in each colour and then it gets to be a bit of a stretch in a few colours. I wouldn't chain myself to treating morphs as a separate creature type. If their are 3 blue morphs that people will happily main deck then I would be fine with 3 morphs in blue and only one in black etc.
The mini game is fun but it's not like there isn't enough fun stuff going on in cube that you have to stretch.
