Finally making a push to play modern at my local game shop and came up with this list since I dont play on going to GPs. Mana base probably needs the most work.

To give a rundown of everything though as short as possible. There is a sideboard just not listed.

10 removal, 11 if you count izzet charm. The two Roast are there for additional cheap ways to remove Goyfs, Siege Rhinos, Tasigur, and Anglers or just also aid in killing weenies. Downside being sorcery speed and you lose the lifegain Lightning Helix offers. On the fence about it.

9 counter spells, 10 if you count izzet charm. The four mana tithes are in there since force spike isn't legal and a fun surprise counter spell. Obviously meh against certain decks and late game so may take it out for another remand and a few more mana leaks or throw in four Rune Snags.

The rest of the noncreature spells are draw power.

As for the creature section of the deck you have the star of the show, Geist throwing down the angel tokens along with Celestial Colonnades in the mana to provide an additional 4/4 for the turn.

Trying out Dragonlord Ojutai, not sure if it will stay but since his cmc is the same as summoning Colonnade, want to see how much work he will put in. Obvious downside is he is vulnerable to counter spells being a creature and adding a few more 5cmc to the curve. Upside being a 5/4 flyer that helps keep the gas flowing and has psuedo hexproof.

The rest of the creatures are pretty standard, three snapcaster mages to get some value back out of used spells and a few restoration angels to flash some creatures around. Then we have Geist to punch people with a 4/4.

You're pretty much dead on about GR Tron, and for that reason I personally would recommend choosing a different deck. Tron is a deck that has a lot of really uneven matches. Sometimes that means you're collecting nearly free wins, but sometimes that means you're just going to lose terribly and have almost no opportunity to leverage play skill in an attempt to change that. It has only a bare minimum of interaction and for the most part just wants to do its own thing and drop some big, game winning haymaker card and hope it's good enough. It's a great meta choice sometimes, but it's not a strong long term choice. The issue I see with playing it with friends is you play two or three games and you can pretty much know how every game is going to end in a certain matchup; either Tron is massively favored or massively disfavored. It won't be fun for long unless they have a lot of decks to play.

My recommendation would be choosing a deck with more interaction as it puts the game much more in your own hands and being forced to interact with your opponents will teach you a lot about how other decks in the format work. Playing Tron against Twin you're not going to learn much aside from that you simply cannot win most of the time. Play something with interaction and you'll start to learn the ins and outs of actually playing against the deck and how it works.

So pretty much play a tempo or control deck that will force me into the situation of as much interaction with the board state as possible? I mean I would love to smash face in with Karn Liberated but at the same time what would Tron teach me aside from what you said how the little interactions basically just teaches me Trons good and bad matchups? Guessing tempo and control, while more difficult to pilot, it will help me learn the other decks and give me the interaction experience so nearly every game it is a battle of how I handle the situation so either way I will gain experience as a player, correct me if I am wrong.

If you like Grixis in EDH why not stick with that? I wouldn't dream of suggesting pulling any cards from your EDH deck but you've probably got loads of odds and ends sitting around that would be fine for just messing around at the shop. Typical Grixis builds have relied on Cruel Ultimatum but I think this is breaking down after the KTK fetches. 1: if they couldn't make it happen with the Fetches, they'll never make Cruel Ultimatum T2 and 2: Others that have stayed away from the shaky manabase are giving it a second look. There's a Grixis Twin iteration floating around.

Buying into the manabase is always pretty safe. After that, there are a lot of Uncommons that hold a lot of Modern Decks together that are also safe. I think the "My $2K deck just got banned out of existence" rant is pretty over-rated. The other thing is that the writing has been on the wall for plenty of time with all these Bans. Just know what you're getting into and what to watch for.

I guess grixis wouldn't be a terrible starting point for me, especially since I am set on the mana base aside from say the scalding tarns. What would be beneficial by sacrificing the white for black? While I adore grixis I am always open to playing other colors as long as it involves my favorite guild being the Izzet League(and by the looks if it, Izzet colors is a central of attention in Modern). I am just asking because I understand how modern is a whole different beast than EDH where in EDH I can get away with ramming my deck full of powerful 5+ CMC spells and be perfectly fine while in Modern it wont fly as well. I guess access to Bobs, Liliana and other powerful spells in black is an upside but would Grixis be a strong enough deck to be able to handle the format and how flexible would the SB be or would white or heck, even green do the job better over black?

    -----------------------------

Sorry for asking so many questions, I just want to get the most solid understanding of everything from especially people who already play the format because obviously I don't want to partially charge in blind and then bam there goes however much money I invested in a deck aside from the mana base and the obvious staples of modern because I can read up on all the things I'd like but at the end of the day, that is only part of the information, the rest comes with experience.

***IF THIS ISN'T THE RIGHT SECTION, COULD I BE DIRECTED TO THE RIGHT ONE**

Hey! So as the title says, debating on getting into modern because I enjoy legacy but we all know the story of what prevents people like me from getting into it(plus the deck I enjoy the most, rather not drop $2000+ on Goyfs, bobs, Lilianas, and the mana base).

Some background to get an idea of what kind of deck I might enjoy:
    -Budget: $600 start up
-I did play Kaijudo for the two short years it was around, played LWD(esper) tempo which it revolved around obvious tempo strategy and if the game got drawn out, have 3-4 late game bombs to seal the deal.
-I play a lot of EDH, specifically Grixis Control with a fair amount of planeswalkers(10ish) but I do enjoy pulling out a Kaalia EDH or even Narset Superfriends deck every now and then.
-I love, I mean LOVE dropping Karn Liberated on people but I hear some say GR Tron is a very narrow deck in terms of what you are doing which is assemble Tron, drop Karn or if needed Emakural.
-I love playing tempo BUT I like having a few really powerful late game drops if needed which in GR Tron's case would be Emakural.
-I don't plan on playing at GPs, just with friends and at my LGS
-While I am not real picky on this, having the flexibility to swap from one deck to another without having to buy EVERY SINGLE CARD is nice, not a real requirement I am looking for, just a side bonus.

With modern having more than four decks to play, I'd like some input on decks I may enjoy and still do well with when my LGS does modern tournaments at a local level so I could proxy up and play test without spending lots of time and ink on printing proxies or just if I would even enjoy the format in general. Could I run tempo and Karn together and still have a consistent, reliable deck or would I have to scrap one or the other?
